But, making stock doesn't take any time. It just simmers all by itself on the stove. And it only takes minutes to strain and then refrigerate until it is cold enough to remove the fat. And a couple more minutes to pour the stock into freezer containers and pop in the freezer.

Ann, i agree, it cooks itself, but I have no freezer room, so canning it would be my only option. And I have a list of 20 other things to do this week.

Hey, I know what it's like to have very little freezer space, so not only do I forgive you, but I applaud you for even putting them in there with the best intentions in the first place. :)

It wouldn't have been any good anyway without those cute little chicken feet with the cute little fingernails. ;)

Once I started making my own stock/broth and cooking with it (not just making soup) the paste base we have is going to be used for dogs. I cannot tolerate the chemical taste on any of the store brought stuff anymore ;)

I have made chicken broth before but let it sit in the refrigerator -didn't get around to freezing it- until I then had to throw it out.

I cleaned my freezer (the small one) over the weekend and threw away lots of old stuff. My freezer, actually, is getting pretty low on stuff.
AND I bought a case of chicken broth over the weekend at 49 cents a can. AND I do not feel guilty at all. Peppi, my friend, I shall not judge you until I have walked in your shoes. (Which are numerous sizes too small for me.)
I've seen your (3) freezers, LOL. It was no big deal to throw out the carcasses. :-)

No big deal. You're forgiven. There will more chickens in your future. Heck, as far as Thanksgiving goes there have been years we went to a movie and ate pizza. I can make a turkey any day I like and hate to be dictated to about when I 'should' eat turkey! Yeah, I know....quite the rebel.

I forgive you too. I often make stock, but if the kitchen is a mess, I'm tired, and the crock pot is dirty, they go in the trash.

LOL definitely forgiven! I don't even keep the carcass. My mother-in-law used to ask for our chicken carcass after a holiday dinner and said she used it to make stock. Well, a couple of years ago my sister-in-law told me that her parents became tired of our bird bodies but didn't want to tell us so they turned around and threw the carcass into the public dumpster! It would be a lot easier if they had just told us. LOL

$0.50 store broth????? I have no such temptations here! I make my own with stripped carcasses (real poultry is also expensive here) to save money, not just to eat well.

We save all of those great plastic bottles from V8 and Gatorade. They are substantial and well, how can you ever throw one away????? I cook down the bones of all and every chicken and turkey and just put the broth in those great bottles and freeze in the door of my freezer. It doesn't have veggies in it, but it is a much richer broth than what you buy in a can. It is completely gelled which tells me that the canned stuff is totally watered down.

I will be cleaning up the freezers, doing an inventory this coming weekend so I hope to make room and start over again. Now that the pond is covered and the fish are down for their long winter nap, silver is polished, house is clean, etc. I may just have time in a month or so to clip some chicken nails.

I will forgive you. I had 2 freezers with 6 carcasses in each. I finally made them into stock, so I could make gravy on Thanksgiving. We are having flank steak pinwheels, stuffed with smoked Gouda and spinach which will be smoked on the smoker. No gravy outta that. But I have to have potatoes and gravy. Gravy is considered a beverage in my mind.
