On pixel of ink today there were a few free cookbooks listed on Amazon for kindle. One is a soup cookbook. The others are listed at pixelofink.com

I got a cheesecake one the other day. I am so glad that Connie sent me the links for that one and a couple of others! I've been going nuts downloading books from them, one of which is the one I wanted to read this morning and couldn't! I'm going to get the soups one too!

I posted about pixel of ink a while back and I signed up for the email daily from them, you get so much more in the emails than on the Site. I just love it, but I don't know how I will read all of the books I keep downloading.
There's also a breakfast one today and a sandwich one.

Source: Secrets of Salt-Free Cooking - by Jeanne Jones UNSALTED CHICKEN OR TURKEY GRAVY 2 c. defatted chicken or turkey drippings 2 c. unsalted chicken stock or unsalted turkey stock 3 T. cornstarch or arrowroot 1/4 c. cold water 1 T. unsalted butter 2 T. minced onion 1 c. thinly sliced fresh mushrooms Freshly ground black pepper to taste Fresh lemon juice (optional) Heat the defatted drippings and stock in a saucepan. Dissolve the cornstarch or arrowroot in the water and add to the saucepan. Cook slowly over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly. While the gravy is cooking, heat the butter in a skillet and add the minced onion. Cook until the onion is tender and then add the sliced mushrooms. Continue cooking until the mushrooms are tender and add to the gravy. Season to taste with pepper and a little fresh lemon juice, if desired. Makes 2-3 cups 1/2 cup contains approximately: 3/4at portion 1/4 starch portion 52 calories 18 mg sodium UNSALTED BEEF GRAVY 1 c. defatted beef drippings 1 c. unsalted beef stock 2 T. cornstarch or arrowroot 1/4 c. cold water 1 T dried onion flakes Freshly ground black pepper to taste Dash Tabasco sauce (optional) Heat drippings and stock in a saucepan. Dissolve the cornstarch or arrowroot in the water and add to saucepan. Cook slowly over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Add onion flakes, pepper and Tabasco sauce, if desired. Makes about 1\-1/2 cups 1/2 cup contains approximately: 1/2 cup starch portion 35 calories 11 mg sodium I take 1-cup of stock from making bone broth and reduce it in a pan for a few minutes. Add 1-2 T. unsalted butter at the end of reduction. The butter thickens the sauce without adding any kind of starch. If I want it thicker I'll add a little Ultra Gel (3 mg sodium per 1 t. - Ultra Gel can be added to hot or cold liquids). Season to taste. -Grainlady

i've been getting them for free and got my issue a few days ago. i have not had time to even open it up so i don't know if there was a subscription envelope or not. i would not subscribe because i rarely make their recipes, most of which don't have nutritional content and are made w/ their processed products we don't often eat. i already get 8+ magazines a month LOL, i would not miss this publication if it stopped. ~ liz

I primarily use almond flour and coconut flour because they are low-glycemic, and I can also make my own. Once you get into all-purpose mixes and blended flour there is generally a mixture of ingredients that are high-glycemic and a lot of rice flour, and I personally avoid high-glycemic foods as much as possible due to a high rate of diabetes in hubby's family. If I use those flours or blends, it's not very often. I use rice and rice flour sparingly due to the arsenic issue with it. The rice flour I do use I make myself from soaked and dehydrated, or soaked and sprouted/dehydrated brown rice which removes a large portion of arsenic. I mill my own gluten-free flours as much as possible. Fresh is always best.....and almost always less expensive. Although I have a good selection of g-f cookbooks, I also have Low-Carb books (lots of good ones from Dana Carpender) as well as Paleo and GAPS or Specific Carbohydrate Diet books, so those are other avenues you may want to search for recipes because they also have many good recipes that are gluten-free. Be sure to check your local library for books on these subjects and copy recipes you would like to try. Or if you really like the book once you've had a chance to go through it, purchase it. I have a large number of books I've never made any recipes out of due to the high-glycemic ingredients or the recipes are just too complicated or use expensive ingredients. My FAVORITE books: -By Elana Amsterdam, and you can find many of the recipes from her books at her web site: www.elanaspantry.com. -The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook -Paleo Cooking from Elana's Pantry (gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free) -Cooking for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet - by Erica Kerwien Contains my favorite recipe for Banana and Pumpkin Bread and "to die for" Cinnamon Muffins. I also make "Sandwich Rounds" and "Blueberry Cinnamon Coffee Cake" from this book. You can find many of these recipes on-line. -Gluten-Free on a Shoestring - by Nicole Hunn The recipe I use most out of this book is for Arepas, which I keep in the freezer and use for sandwiches. You need a special cornmeal - P.A.N. - for making Arepas. Coconut Flour Favorites: -Cooking with Coconut Flour - by Bruce Fife, N.D. (and you can find most of those recipes on-line). From this book I make: Coconut Bread, all kinds of muffins, Cream Cheese Squares (a nice egg-free recipe). If there is a down-side to using coconut flour, it generally requires a lot of eggs. I like recipes where you use coconut flour and almond flour. -The Everything Coconut Diet Cookbook - by Anji Sandage with Lorena Novak Bull, RD. This book is more about using all kinds of coconut products and I have a few favorite recipes in the book. -The Spunky Coconut Cookbook - by Kelly V. Brozyna Gluten-free, casein-free and sugar-free Uses some "odd" and "expensive" ingredients, as well as high-glycemic flours. I've made a few recipes, but it's not a go-to book. General Gluten-Free Books: -The No-Gluten Cookbook - Series Editor, Kimberly A. Tessmer, R.D., L.D. I've made a number of recipes from this book and my favorite recipe is for "Crunchy Cornbread Squares" and I always have a container of them in the freezer. This recipe makes really thin cornbread which can be cut into bread-size squares, split, and used for grilled sandwiches, as well as cornbread. Toasted, it makes great cornbread stuffing. -Books by Bette Hagman- "Living Well Without Wheat - The Gluten-Free Gourmet" "More from the Gluten-Free Gourmet - Delicious Dining Without Wheat" Lots of good information, but she uses a lot of rice and high-glycemic flours and flour blends. I never use these books other than for general information, not the recipes. -Gluten-Free 101 - Easy, Basic Dishes Without Wheat - by Carol Fenster, Ph.D. is in the same category. Good information, but the recipes use too many high-glycemic flours and flour blends. Visit www.glutenfree101.com -The Joy of Gluten-Free Sugar-Free Baking - by Peter Reinhart & Denene Wallace. I enjoyed all of Peter Reinhart's bread books before going gluten-free, but this book, at least for me, was a waste of money. -Not to be left out of the G-F loop, America's Test Kitchen came up with a book - "The How Can It Be Gluten Free Cookbook". It also is a good resource book for using gluten-free ingredients, but the recipes use high-glycemic flour blends. The recipes I've used in this book are for quinoa salad, buckwheat tabbouleh and quinoa patties, not the breads and baked goods. -Grainlady

When I go to the site for the free cook book it will say add to cart but won't go any further ...yesterday when I followed a link for free books that I found here in KT, I ended up with a major mess when my malware fighter went crazy. Tried to go through the computer help but did not find any hints on how to download to my computer the books as I would love them for my ipod when away and to read on laptop at home. Would appreciate and abc tutorial if anyone has one and wouldn't mind sharing. I do not have a kindle either ..have had two others an expensive Sony and a cheaper one both malfuntioned after a week, each had different problems. Please don't say it is just me and electronics as the other half says. Gonna get a complex for sure.

I went directly to Amazon, downloaded the PC app and found all kinds of freebies. No issues with my virus protection.

if you do not have an ereader that has the kindle app on it then you can just download the kindle for pc app to your computer or laptop and get the books to it, you can then download books in kindle format and have them go directly to your kindle for pc. You do need to set up an account at Amazon so that you can get the books even the free ones, it will act just like a purchase even for the free ones and send an email to you thanking you for your purchase but you will see the balance is zero. Always check carefully however that it is actually free before hitting the purchase button.
If you have several kindles or kindle apps on Amazon it will have a drop down list of your devices and you can choose which to have it sent to. They will all always be on your Amazon online library though so that you can access them should you need too.

I don't know which link you followed yesterday that you said sent your malware fighter off but I would love to know and also what malware program are you using? was it your antivirus program that gave a warning or an actual malware program? Is it malware fighter by Iobit?

Thanks for responding so quickly Raven. I am looking at the second post and for some reason I don't think it was any from that list ..but it did come from somewhere here at the kitchen table. The reason I know this is because I don't have a kindle and I assumed that maybe you had to have one because they all say kindle edition. It was malware fighter by Iobit which I have used for a long time on this and other computers around the house ...never has it done what it did with the site I clicked on ..It started rolling red fast and furious...I simply closed all windows that I had open and let it do its thing then isolated everything as per instructions. I think only twice it has done anything before and both were a quick pop up saying something about cookies. I just looked at the quarentine list and they were listed .. The first one said generic trojan web search, the sixty or so in the centre said adware.my and misleading....the last said trogan win...f3pssavr.scr. I will keep reading back posts for the last few days to see if any ring a bell
I have the kindle app on my windows 7 and on my ipod 4 touch. Amazon was also installed a long time ago because I have tried and given up a few times to do this. (so long ago that it calls me by name on the top of the screen but I can't for the life of me remember my password.lol) Thank you very much I do appreciate your help!

You can try doing the don't remember my password thing it should email you the answer or your secret questions to remind you.

I would recommend running a full scan on your computer with malwarebytes, update it first and let's make sure everything was cleared up, a couple of those entries you mention can be hard to remove fully. If you need malwarebytes free you can find it here.
Just be sure to take the free version.

Thanks once again Raven. I downloaded the malwarbytes although it was free it is only a month trial I hope it is the one that you wanted me to use. Did a full scan that took 55 minutes and it found 84 threats. I would guess the same ones maybe that obit didn't really take care of or that it went into the obit quarn file and got them from there. I truly have been lucky for being on line for over 20 years that we have never had any virus'
After the cleanup I tackled the free book issue and I got one on my ipod that I had actually set to go to my pc. When I finished the reboot for the scan, I opened the icon on the pc and the book was there too. I think you have created a monster now....that's my story if I get in trouble and cannot lift my ipod cause it is too heavy with books....lol kidding have no idea how many books I can get on a 32g., but summer is coming and there is NO tv..internet..or phone at the summer cottage. I love my toys!!! Also love the friendly people that are always there to lend a hand. Kudos to you!! (when do you sent the bill?)

the malwarebytes is totally free it may ask you if you want to upgrade to the paid version but just say no and you keep using it just as it is, the pay version is automatic it runs at all times protecting you and you can schedule scans to happen automatically. I just use the free version and about once a week update it and let it run a scan I advise that practice to everyone.

I am not a fan of Iobit, but I am a huge fan of malwarebytes and highly recommend it to everyone.

You can put a LOT Of books on 32GB!!! probably more than you could read in a lifetime LOL

The bill is just to pay it forward help someone else as I have helped you. ;-)
