Found some great small tart pans.

I was just looking around Ross last week and found 4 nonstick tart pans for $2.99 (with senior discount $2.70). I just made some olallieberry tarts from berries I picked then froze last summer. I used the Vodka crust recipe that was posted here earlier. They came out of the pans sweet as you please. I am going back to get a package of 4 more if I can find them so I can make 8 at once. I am thinking of apple tarts, lemon tarts and pumpkin tarts. I can freeze them then have a little piece of pie whenever I want.

Clare, I love those tart pans. And you definitely can't beat the price! We have a Ross here as well, I might take a look this weekend to see what they have, since it's been a while since I've been there. In the past I've picked up some pretty decent kitchen gadgets and glassware from there.

What's an olallieberry? Is it like a blackberry? I confess I've never heard of them before. The only berries that grow here in Florida are strawberries. Your tarts came out lovely.

Thanks. I forgot to mention the brand name. It was in a flat cardboard package and they were called "Good Cook".

Olallieberry is a cross between a couple of different blackberries, loganberry, raspberry, youngberry and dewberry. It looks and tastes sort of like a blackberry but it is much larger and the flavor is more intense. They grow well in CA and OR. Here is the full history at Wikipedia.

The price is too much, especially when The National Clonal Germplasm Repository at Corvallis, Oregon, sends out plants for free. I put in an order on line there last year for two Rose de Cote d'Or raspberry plants, after David Karp raved about their taste in his article. Two tiny, rooted cuttings arrived a few weeks ago, after around a year's wait, and are leafing out nicely in their one gallon pot. There might not be enough chill here to fruit them, but it's fun trying. Several French websites report that it's one of the most aromatic raspberries in existence. Thanks Ginger, You can never have to many recipes with Chocolate in them and this one sounds good. The Lemon Curd Tart is very similar to the recipe that I posted recently for Shortbread Tarts with Lemon Filling. The combination of the shortbread crust with the tart lemon filling is wonderful. Home Cookin 4.9 Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table =================================== Source: Appeal Magazine Shortbread crust 1 cup butter softened 1/2 cup icing sugar 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch Filling 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice 1 Tablespoon grated lemon zest 1 cup granulated sugar 3 eggs well beaten 1/2 cups butter at room temperature . Preheat oven to 325Â°F. Combine shortbread ingredients in the bowl of an electric mixer. Mix to form dough. Divide dough into 24 pieces. Pat each portion of dough into a 1 1/2" (4 cm) tart tin, using your fingers to shape it into a shell. Prick the bottom of each tart with a fork. Bake 10 minutes and then prick bottoms again as the shells puff up. Bake an additional 10 minutes. Remove from oven and allow tarts to cool on a wire rack before filling. To prepare lemon filling, combine juice and zest in a double boiler. Whisk in sugar, eggs and butter, blending well. Place over gently boiling water and whisk constantly until mixture thickens. Cool before using to fill tart shells. Lemon filling can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator. (Note: I did not cook using a double boiler. Thanks!! I must say that it was easy. I followed the recipe except I used half whole wheat and half white, I used sucanat rather than regular sugar, I added a touch of lemon extract and on the second set of four tarts I put lemon curd on the bottom then put the filling on top of that. I'll spare you all the second photo because it is so similar to the first...although there are more kiwi bits on the second batch. I loved the responses; made me feel even more successful about trying something new! The house smells so good right now :) Oh, and the pans were so easy. I used the bottoms to cut out the parchment paper and they popped out without even needing to push up from the bottom. So much fun!

I always made this in my springform which was shallow (under an inch). It had a fluted edge so presentation was great. Plus being able to serve it on any pretty plate. You will love yours. Pumpkin Cheesecake (1/2 recipe) 1 - 9-inch graham cracker crust 16 oz cream cheese 3/4 c. sugar 2 x-lg eggs or 3 small 1/8 c. flour 3/4 c. canned pumpkin 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice Preheat oven to 325 F. Those are sweet, never saw anything like that! I just bought some in WmSonoma outlet to make Moniques Christmas meat pies. I got six in pkg on sale for 2.80, but yours are cuter,and non stick.. We don't have Ross...

Those are so cute! And I love tarts.

I was just looking for mini pans today and did not see anything like the ones you found. I was looking for small loaf pans for my Fruit Cakes that I will be making tomorrow.

It seems like I saw mini pans all the time and now that I looking to buy, they are no where to be found.

Ross is like TJ Max or Marshalls so if don't have a Ross, check out those stores and they might have something like it. I sure hope I can find 4 more. Now I kick myself for not buying them when I could.

FYI, the tarts were yummy! And we really liked that Vodka crust. It was very light and flaky. Will definitely make it again.

Thanks for explaining the Olallieberries, Clare!! They sound delicious, since I like raspberries and blackberries. Seeing your tarts has gotten me into a pie and tart making mood for sure.

Michelle, I saw the little loaf pans recently at Marshalls. Do you have a Marshalls near you?

I love all this shopping talk!! Maybe we could have a thread..Weekly Finds...for our new cooking things and dishes, etc..LOL I love seeing everyone's new cooking gadgets, pans, dishes, etc. I can shop vicariously...

Michelle, are you looking for ceramic mini pans or aluminum? My source for alum mini pans closed, and the supermarket was the only place to find them, but not cost effective. To order from supply places, you have to order sooo many, I am afraid I won't be baking long enough to use them!
And Clare, your tarts look delicious, and great idea freezing them, portion control!

I bought some mini loaf pans at Target but this was the only place I could find them. And they were not cost effective but I've got to get my fruit cakes baked today because of the long fermenting process.
