What's for Dinner #299

The last thread was at 99 posts and everyone had Thanksgiving, so I decided to just start a new thread.

On Friday Elery and I made mozzarella cheese:

So, I made pizza. Fresh sliced tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, our homemade italian sausage and the homemade mozzarella.

{{!gwi}}

Elery ate a couple of pieces, I ate half a piece. I didn't like it and threw the other half away. Elery insisted it was pretty good. He can have the rest of it with my blessings.

tonight Elery made a mixed bean soup, it was really good:

{{!gwi}}

And, since it was time to try something new, that 7 year rule, we had some Bindi Masala. Okra with a "mild" curry sauce. The okra was not slimy, so that was good but the mild curry about peeled the skin from my tongue it was so spicy:

{{!gwi}}

With some yogurt to cut it, it made a pretty good dip.

And that's what's for dinner.....

Sharon, speaking from my own experience, I bet Wolf is going to LOVE that monitor. As more and more websites design with the idea that 1024x768 is "normal", it gets harder to navigate with 800x600 resolution setting on a smaller screen.

Annie, I should politely decline, but I have no sense of shame when it comes to your dilly beans.

Hi all, haven't posted in a while, but have been reading and checking out all the goodies every day.

Today was cold and snowy so I made country food

    beans, fried potatoes and cornbread

not my usual fare but sure hit the spot today!

Usually, when they are listed on sale at the HF web site, the local store in your city has a sale. I also signed up for the HF news letter. It comes in the mail every couple of weeks and lists sale items. It is on sale now. See the link below. Note that HF's new 10ft X 12ft greenhouse is also now on sale for $599.00. Good price IMHO. jack Here is a link that might be useful: HF $299 greenhouse link

Sungold, $2.99 for 8 seeds, are they worth it?

Pennyrile, yes I have had slow to sprout seeds later sprout when I planted something else in the potting soil, but it is usually easy to tell which seedling was the slow starter because it will come up in a different place then where I planted the new seed. I always dump the potting soil I am going to reuse in a big bin I use to store it and mix it up so usually the seed will be buried really deep when I reuse it. I have even had slow to sprout seeds finally sprout after I transplanted the new seedling out into the garden. Your comment about packed for 2009 brings to mind a question. Was that seed actually produced in 2008 for sale in 2009 or is it old seed from previous years that was tested and repacked? The reason I ask is I asked Armstrong if they had any year old seed they were selling at a discount and they said no, they send all unsold seed back to the vendor. But what does the vendor do with it? Do they throw it away, or test it for germination rate, put it in a new package, and resell it, or maybe sell it to cut rate seed companies, or mix it with some fresh seed and resell it, or what?

patti skipped out for dinner: what's for dinner

I'm back from dinner. It was great visiting with our snowbird friends and we talked for over two hours. We were neighbors when we both lived in the boonies and they moved back to Ohio shortly after we moved. We went on a cruise together with others from the neighborhood and had so much fun with them once. So now we e-mail and get together once a year :-( Dinner--not so good. I ordered the fettucini alfredo with bacon-wrapped sea scallops. The salad that came with it was very good, the scallops cooked just right but the alfredo was disappointing, to say the least. It was a big plate of angel hair pasta with a huge glob of alfredo sauce out of a jar. Ick, ick, ick! What could be easier than alfredo sauce? It's just a little butter, cream, garlic and lots of parmesan. They had little rolls that came with the salad that looked a little like those biscuits at Red Lobster, but were floury and dry. Now I remember why we don't like to eat out. Harry had fried oysters, baked sweet potato and hush puppies. He said on the way home it wasn't very good, but if it's dinner time I swear that man would eat plastic! Guess we won't be eating there again any time soon!

I got the LG LFXS30766S and have been using it for the last four months. I love it. Very quiet. I thought the door-in-door was gimicky but I now think it's great. Use it all the time for frequently accessed items. I was looking at refrigerators for months. Wasn't really considering LG. Opened those french doors in the show room and Wham! It was the brightest (LEDs) and best laid out space I had seen. Bought it on the spot, which is not like me.

Di, it looks good to me too, I love beans and cornbread.

Renee, they're in the mail. Along with the check. LOL No, I'll get 'em packed up and in the mail next week.

SharonCB, Wolf is gonna love that, I won't tell.

Tonight I'm having some issues with photobucket, so I couldn't adjust the size of my picture. Anyway, Cooper and I had the last spaghetti squash from the garden, some pork roast and a baked potato, another meal that is entirely from the farm.

    {{!gwi}}

The potato is OK, but I liked the Red Pontiacs better. Unfortunately, those are all gone.

Everybody's food looks so good. A couple of comments, Annie, I do that too...when we sit down to eat, I figure and comment on how much comes from the farm....I have the added plus that the milk does too. (have I mentioned I have a milk cow). Is the spaghetti squash good? My hill of that was attacked by squash borers last year so I didn't get to try it. Is it worth trying again next year?

And Di, now that's my kind of food...hope you put onions in those fried potatoes.

Sharon, you always give me great ideas to work more vegetables into our diet. I will try steaming all those same vegetable today. I even have the liver...just no mushrooms.

    glenda

Glenda, we really like spaghetti squash, as soon as the family caved in an agreed that it was squash, not spaghetti. I like it with just butter and freshly grated parmesan, which I have not figured out how to manufacture on the farm yet, LOL.

I do not like it covered with marinara. AS I said, it's squash, it is NOT pasta.

I'm envious of the fresh milk, but not envious enough to get a milk cow. Because the farm is 18 miles from my house in town, it'd be a long daily drive to do the morning milking before work. (grin)

Jojoco, would you mind posting that Ina white sauce recipe I have a mind to make some white lasagne but I have yet to find a white sauce for it I like. Im thinking of using spaghetti squash for the filling. I dont like the traditional butternut squash fillings, but I think I might like it filled with spaghetti squash. Im like Annie, I finally started liking it when I realized it was nothing like spaghetti, just good tasting squash.

Annie, I am long retired from dairying....so I understand completely. I just milk her when I need milk, maybe three times a week. She is raising her baby and an orphan Black Angus for me. Today was milking morning.

I will try the squash next summer.

Please share how you cook spaghetti squash - is it really a sub for spaghetti?

lpink- see the link below for a delicious white sauce for lasagna. I also make it using Penne or other pasta.
You could easily sub veggies for the scallops and shrimp.

di - I grew up eating that exact meal- including the cornbread in the cast iron skillet - which I have and use almost everyday. My sister got the 50+ year old stained recipe that she framed.

Last night I served Bean & Barley soup that I made from TJ's pkg of 17 Bean & Barley Mix. I added a ham hock I had in the freezer and Glen Muir Fire Roasted tomatoes. I would buy these again - I liked that it was just the pkg of beans and no spices. Dessert was warmed from the oven apple crisp with EDY's frozen yogurt. Apples were from a can - I keep them in the pantry for spur of the moment apple crisp. Bakes while we eat dinner.
Di's cornbread would have been on the table, but trying to eat healthier. Had I seen your picture before dinner, I may not have been able to resist :)

Here is a link that might be useful: White sauce lasagne

Magothyrivergirl (I gotta find a short way to say that, LOL), spaghetti squash is not a sub for spaghetti, although others will insist it is. It comes out in strands, like spaghetti but it tastes like squash. I just cut mine in half, bake in the oven, cut side down, and when it's tender I use a fork to pull the strands out. Top with butter and grated parmesan, some salt and pepper. Yum,.. Oh, and I love barley in nearly everything.

Di, I also bake cornbread in a hot cast iron skillet, gives it that great crust...

Sharon, we had liver too. Friday night's dinner was Chicken Livers sauted with onions, garlic, green peppers and seasoned with a little oregano and the juice of a lemon. Served over rice.

Last night's dinner was take-out Halibut Fish and Chips.

Glenda, A milk cow. I'm imagining all the fresh cream.

    I can't post pics (I don't have a digital camera...yet)but I love looking at all of yours.

We had a Spaghetti Party last night, sort of a "Godfather" theme without any murders and just a little mahem, and it was a lot of fun! I made the sauce and meats Friday so Joe and I ate that Friday night - had to make sure it was good, right? - again last night at the party, and we have plenty of leftovers for a few more days. I always prepare way to much food for parties...tried to enlist some of our kids to come help us out today, but, alas, no takers. I think even I, a half-Italian girl, might get tired of spaghetti this week.

Anyone ever use leftover Roasted Turkey Breast for Cutlets.

First time I tried this. Don't usually like the breasts after the fact.
But I was but surprised they were good and not dry.
    - - - - - - - - - -
Lou's Breaded Roasted Turkey Breast Cutlets

Made a Bread Crumb mix using

    1/2 cup Bread Crumbs,
1/4 cup of Corn Flakes crushed small,
    1/4 cup of Flour
1/2 teaspoon of Garlic Powder and
    Onion powder.
1/4 Teaspoon of Old Bay or Cooter Rub
    1/4 teaspoon of salt
    1/2 teaspoon Parsley Flakes.

    For dipping:
Beat an egg in a soup bowl and add some of the Spices above.
Sliced the turkey into 1/2 inch thick slices.
Dip them in the egg then into the bread crumb mix.

Cover with the crumbs and pat, then into the hot skillet.
    Fry til golden brown.

At our party Spaghetti Party Saturday night we also served a whole smoked salmon. My, it was good. So this morning I made salmon chowder that is out of this world delicious, and now I have the bones and head simmering for stock. I know the recipes say don't use such an oily fish as salmon for stock, but I'm going to see what happens. Maybe I'm wasting my time....we'll see. But gosh the chowder is good.

Ribeye Steaks on the grill were last night rubbed with garlic, salt and pepper. Served with salad and Parmesan Noodles. Very good.

Tonight is going to be hot dogs (fully loaded)cooked on the grill - I like them charred, fresh cut french fries and salad. I always have to have a green vegetable with my meal and we do love salads.

I've been very absent of recent. Busy fake farming. Smiles. So glad to cruise through this thread. All great food as usual and love the pictures...always.

We made perogies yesterday. No pics because I overdid it and was too sore to come in here and get the camera. LOL. I used the dough recipe posted on the potato thread. They were very good but I had to get used to the dough looking a little translucent after cooked. I'm so used to just using a regular pasta dough. Christy had hers fried and with onions and I had mine boiled with butter and sour cream. Very good and it was Christy's goal on her vacation to make them. Luckily we got them done on the last day.. smiles. We did get one batch for the freezer too so that is something to look forward to.

I've been having lots of vegetable cravings and the farmers market had some beautiful squash. I have some meat out to thaw so think I'll make some of my veggie chili tomorrow or... maybe a spaghetti sauce with veggies. I haven't had spaghetti in almost two weeks....almost a record.

I think someone stole my brand new camera out of my car. I hope I'm wrong but I haven't been able to find it since I got back from Thanksgiving. I thought it was in with my luggage. I must have left it sitting out in the car and left the car unlocked in the parking lot at work. Not unloading the car AND leaving it unlocked are things I just don't usually do, but I have been so frazzled lately I am off my game. I am just sick about it.

I made two very good things this weekend that I will be having for dinner during the week. The first one was Cabbage Agrodolce with Sausage. It was a recipe I got at Wegmans. I used vegetarian italian sausage. Basically the ingredients for stuffed cabbage sauce without the steaming, stuffing and wrapping. Just slice up all the yummy stuff and layer it in a crockpot or braising pan. I sauteed it a bit on top of the stove and then finished it in a low oven, as I was using my crockpot for barbecued chicken. That was a POOF from leftover cherry habenero jelly and barbecue sauce, so two more condiments cleaned out!! Just a lot of jam and pickle relish to go!! I see some jam filled cookies in my future.

The second yummy recipe was a total POOF, macaroni and cheese with pureed butternut squash. I found some cheese going moldy so I made a nice flavorful white sauce with my crockpot caramelized onions, some herbs and this cheese--without the mold! It was a bunch of mixed kinds, provolone, colby jack, and some other yellow kinds, maybe american or cheddar or both. Then I mixed in a 10 oz. package of butternut squash puree. It is yummo, and not too "vegetal" as I have found other squash pastas. Kind of like butternut squash filled ravioli without having to finesse the ravioli. My kind of cooking.

I had a couple of tuna steaks from TJ's that I couldn't figure out what to do with, and I was missing one critical ingredient for everything suggested. I couldn't believe it, especialy since Friday was grocery day! I ended up marinating them in ponzu with a bit of soy sauce and orange juice, then searing them. One was dinner last night in some very badly constructed nori rolls (but it tasted great). The other piece of tuna went onto a bed of salad greens for lunch with the Orange Balsamic dressing Sharon posted. It sounds like an odd combination of flavors, but it worked.

I have a half a foot of snow on the ground and the projected weather tonight is THREE degrees plus more snow. (That's ambient, not wind chill.) I've got a pot of sauce simmering for sphaghetti. And since I don't know how to make spaghetti for one, that's probably going to be dinner tomorrow night, too...which is certainly no hardship. LOL!

Mag, I was thinking of you the other day cause we visited friends in Lothian and I saw your river - or signs for it anyway :)

We ate dinner at Yellowfin on the Potomac - I had the best ever scallops! They were lightly blackened and lightly smokey and served with a grainy mustard cream sauce - just out of this world good!

LPink I hope with my fingers crossed that your camera wasn't stolen! Let us know if you find it.

Lou your chicken looks just fine on that paper towel. I bet it tasted good.

Beachlily I will post some photos tomorrow of Bibi over on the Gallery. Maybe put one here too.

We had a lovely ladies' night out on Saturday at a nearby restaurant. Just the four of us females who have been going out for a Christmas get-together for many years.
Sometimes there are more of us but the others were away this time.
There were candles and poinsettias all over the room. I didn't take my camera either because I was using a very small handbag. Dinner was good, although I decided to just have a shrimp cocktail....without the sauce.....so it was basically shrimp and lettuce, and drinking water. But we had much chatter and spent three hours in there, finishing with coffees. The other girls had enormous desserts with ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream, but it didn't bother me that I had a mandarin orange instead.
I really wasn't too hungry as Wolf and I had eaten a substantial lunch earlier.

Yesterday I made fish with a mushroom sauce and steamed veg and today I did chicken tenders marinated in teriyaki sauce with cabbage, spinach, carrots, squash and brown rice with chopped spring onion.

Here's one photo of Bibi sitting on my printer watching the birds outside in the tree. She didn't see the dove on an upper branch which was watching her.

Holidays here today and tomorrow all over Spain but shops are usually open in the morning. Went for an hour long walk and then to Pilates, then came home and cooked lunch.

    Have a good week everyone!

We have had guest for the last three days. I can't understand how I forget that I have a digital camers and I could take pictures of all the wonderful food we have had.

My DH put in a request that our friend make her yummy meatloaf. I don't watch what she does because I'm usually doing something else. I do know that she mixes the meat and lets the mixture sit in the fridge for hours. OMG good!

Been very busy lately and I have missed coming to the WFD thread. All the food porn and good eats and recipes and the saliva glands that get going looking at all the pictures. LOL!

LPink, I'm also keeping my fingers crossed and sending good thoughts that you will your camera.

Last night we had bow tie pasta with a faux Alfredo sauce (butter, garlic, cream cheese, parm and milk) with sautéed crimini mushrooms and chicken breast. Sides were a romaine and orange salad and peas. DMIL joined us and brought a banana cream pie.

Tonight the remaining pasta and sauce was morphed into mac and cheese, with lots of cheddar, Manchego, parm and a little Cambozola added along with milk and a beaten egg. Sides and dessert were the same as last night - not newly inspired but definitely comfort food on a very cold night and a spacemaker in the fridge.

    Lee

Oh dear, L, I do hope you find that camera.

Sharon, I love that picture of Bibi looking out the window, she's definitely fattened up.

I spent the night making and freezing cookie dough, so supper was the last of the beef barley soup.

Jo, you and I must have been on the same wavelength. I made Ina's Portobello Lasagne too! It's really good, isn't it? I froze half because it makes a lot. So we can have it a gain soon without the effort!

I did take a picture, but it wasn't as nice as yours, so I deleted it. Maybe next time. Lasagne is hard to photograph!

Tonight we each just had a plain old grilled cheese sandwich. Too tired to cook anything more than that.

But here are a couple things we have had in the past week. I had a craving for aa meatball sub, and these filled the bill. Photo isn't great, but the sandwich sure was!

    {{!gwi}}

Last week we had the stuffed pork chops that I have grown to love! Sides were roasted red potatoes and another Ina Garten recipe, Parmesan Roasted Asparagus.

woodie - so nice to be thought about :) Yellowfin is a nice restaurant. I have to clarify - it is on the South River.
big distinction here ~LOL~ the Potomac River - Washington DC - Va and it is way dirtier - hugely polluted!! I hope your table was waterside - we always request a table by the water everywhere we go because we never get tired of the amazing view. I love scallops!I have never heard anything bad about the food. It was a good choice.

My son had his 10 year HS Reunion at Yellowfin last Saturday.

: (. Where are all the pictures? But since I'm here (with no pics) we had pancakes and scrambled eggs last night.
Just wanted to tell Sharon to back away from the shoulder pads. ha ha. Good for you on getting back into your old wardrobe. Hopefully I get my fancy camera and I can get into some macro photography - would love it for a few desserts I made and of course, my flowers. I always cruise the WFD threads for ideas.

Sorry, Mag, obviously I don't know my geography, LOL, or actually I think the word Potomac just popped out of my mouth without thinking. Anyway, we were waterside but it was dark so it didn't make that much difference, but it was very pleasant. Unfortunately the next day we spent 4+ unexpected hours sitting in a Chevrolet Service Department in Waldorf on our way to Raleigh, NC - got to the granddaughter's holiday symphonic band concert quite late but at least we got to see her and hear some great music, if not all of it. Lunch that day was a mad dash across a 6 lane highway to Bob Evans, not quite the same caliber dining experience! But a turkey bacon panini hit the spot at that moment - just getting away from the crowded service department for an hour was a plus.

Wow! This thread is moving like it used. I don't know what revived it, and I don't care. I'm just glad it's up to speed again.

All of your delicious photos and descriptions are making me happy, and a little hungry. Maybe I ought to shut up, and start contributing once again.
But I'm home this morning. It's colder than a snowman's droppings. And so quiet you could hear a pin drop. . .if it weren't muffled by the snoring sounds of my faithful dog, Louie.

I'm in the process of decorating my tree. And I'm loving this moment.

Everything looks and sounds delicious. I have been doing some clean out so we have been having a hodge podge of stuff lately but it all has been good and fed us well.

I took out a Eye Round Roast to defrost a couple of nights ago with nothing in mind to do with it. So I will be cooking that tonight some way or the other - does anyone have some suggestions? I normally marinade but didn't do it. I could put on the grill but it is pretty windy here today so I don't know about that (charcoal grill). I could do high heat with some garlic, salt & pepper and slice real thin which is the only way we like that cut of meat.

Sol a cold December day is perfect for tree decorating!
Ours goes up on the 15th, but it will be sunny and warm. I'll have to close the curtains and pretend there's snow outside. :-)

Linda that creamy chicken tortilla soup sounds really good.

Yesterday I had a small sirloin steak (for diet) and since Wolf isn't very keen on beef, he had Nürnberger sausages from the German deli...
...with assorted veg: cauliflower, bubango squash, carrots, brown rice.

    His & Hers

Today was another beautiful sunny day so we went out to eat but it was too windy to sit outdoors so we went inside the restaurant for tortellini in Gorgonzola sauce for him and roast chicken and salad for me.

Now doing an hour of fast walking each morning. Feels good!

I had an absurdly difficult day today.....The good news- the dinner I threw together was delicious, and healthy, despite the the very big chef's knife that is still stuck in the acorn squash sitting on the counter - I can't remove it and I can't slice it - after the day I had, I opted for baked sweet potatoes instead. I also baked chicken breasts, bone in, seasoned with fresh ground pepper, fresh rosemary and basted with Kraft's Asian Toasted Sesame Dressing and brown rice that I had previously cooked and frozen in smaller servings (this prevents us from eating too much and heats great in the microwave.)Dessert was Angel Food cake and raspberry nonfat sherbet for DH - Okay truth - I ate real ice cream straight out of the carton with a fork! There is something soothing eating straight from the carton, while standing - it is just so rebellious! Lol
Now I am going to bed and hide under the covers, because tomorrow has to be a better day.

Linda, can you post the tortilla soup recipe please? It looks perfect for the cold weather.

Dinner was the cassoulet I made the other day. Perfect for the howling winds and below zero wind chills.

Yep, Peppi. Here it you go.

    Creamy Chicken Tortilla Soup
    from Marilyn (DanaIN)

    2 tablespoons olive oil
    1 large onion; chopped
    2 tablespoons minced garlic
4 corn tortillas (regular or fried)
1 (14 oz.) can diced tomatoes with chilies
    4 cups chicken broth
    1 teaspoon ground cumin
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    1 teaspoon turmeric
    2 cups chopped, cooked chicken
1 1/2 cups frozen corn kernels
    1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese-optional
    1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
    juice from 1/2 fresh lime
1 cup diced, seeded Roma tomatoes or 1 cup salsa
    Sour cream for garnish
Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat; sauté onions and garlic for 3 minutes. Slice or break tortillas into small pieces and add to onions and garlic; sauté until they are soft. Add tomatoes, broth and spices and bring to a boil. Remove from heat; allow to cool for 5 minutes. Puree soup base in batches in a blender or food processor until smooth, return soup to pot.
Add chicken, corn and cream and return to a boil then simmer for 5 minutes or until it starts to thicken. Reduce heat to medium-low and sprinkle in cheese and cilantro; stir to melt cheese. Add lime juice and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve topped with tomatoes and a dollop of sour cream.

Tonight was a simple, non-photoworthy dinner of baked salmon filet for me and grilled pork steak for Tim, baked potatoes, peas and cauliflower.

Picked up nice pork steaks this afternoon for $1.49 per pound. There were five nice sized steaks in the package for just over $5. Froze four and cooked the other one!

Sharon, our Christmas tree went up earlier than usual this year, but it sat in the den naked for almost a week.
You could say I was spurred by Thumper's enthusiasm (and tact) to finally dress it up in its proper, seasonal attire.

Magothyrivergirl, I have no clue of the type of day you had, but I do hope today will be much better.

Linda, your soup looks and sounds pretty wonderful, right now.

I'll be back next week, hopefully with enough time to post some pictures.

yum yum YUM! I'm hungry - this was the wrong place to turn.

I roasted a chicken last night, with baked sweet potatoes. Tonight will be hot chicken and gravy sandwiches - quick dinner pre-Christmas concert at the school. Will has been playing tenor sax this year - and loves it! He is going to All County in February and is very proud and excited. :-) Only 10 kids from his band were chosen.

Oh, and weRe fine so far - weather wise. Lots of wind and cold (although yesterday we had snow, rain, hail, thunder and lightning - all at the same time, I think!). The lake effect snow has kept to the north of us so far. Take care all of you who have been belted!

I'm venturing out soon to pick Will up from school. brrrr!!!

We hung these big snowflake icicle lights around the front porch. They're beautiful. But they sure go clackety clack with the wind!

we're having a big chopped salad for dinner tonight. I know - it should be something warm....maybe some homemade bread, too? still warm from the oven? Or maybe we'll just have a hot toddy after dinner. :-)

I have been eating supper, really I have, but I'm having all kinds of issues with my computer and Photobucket, which insists that I must download the new "flashplayer" but when I try the Adobe site locks up my computer. I can't even post a picture at all now, not even the big ones I had to post in the "Santa comes to White Cloud" thread. Sigh.

Anyway, Ashley wanted mashed potatoes with hamburger gravy one night, not my favorite but it's comfort food for her.

We had sole rolled in panko and parmesan cheese one evening and last night I had the last of the beef barley soup.

Tonight it's fried chicken, Ashley was telling Elery how good my fried chicken was and how I never made it any more. He told her not to feel badly, I've never made it for him at all. So, tonight it's fried chicken.

Last night was stuffed spareribs, red cabbage and mashed potatoes. I know the pic looks like I should have something else on the plate but I didn't! If you have never tried stuffed ribs you should, a whole different thing from regular ribs.

Tonight I have a small prime rib ready to go, mashed potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy for sure...the rest is TBD.

Sharon, your ribs look delicious! I've never tried stuffed ribs.

We had ribs last night, too. Sue's Roadhouse Ribs....I swear, those are the best ribs I've ever eaten! Sides were Marilyn's Party Potatoes, sauteed zucchini and yellow squash, and green beans. Sorry, no pictures, we had a dinner guest so no time to snap!

I've been baking cookies all day, so not sure what dinner will be tonight. Id really like a break from the kitchen!

I finally got to have a dinner party!! Lots of cooking and lots of fun.
Hanukkah Dinner tonight was Spinach Artichoke spread with crackers and wine as an appetizer, first course vegetarian matzoh ball soup, then latkes, homade applesauce, sour cream, and Syrian marinated beet salad. Dessert was decaf coffee with hazlenut liqueur, and pear jam cake. I posted a lot of pics in the Hanukkah thread, but here's a few more.

    What a lovely party, Lpink!

That salad looks delectable, as do the latkes. And your table looks great!

Annie, the same thing happened to me with the Adobe site. I finally had to close everything down, clean out my cookies, and open only the Adobe site before it would download and then it was real slow! It might be worth the try. (My last resort on stuff like this is to start deleting any unused stuff to free up the computer - it's just not able to handle it.)

    Hope that helps. Beth

Sharon those stuffed ribs look really good. I will try them one day.

Lpink a lovely dinner party. I bet the latkes were delicious.

Today is Wolf's birthday so I made up a table of gifts, fresh flowers and some cakes from the German bakery for him.

We went out to lunch and had a delicious thick vegetable soup each followed by his favourite ham omelette while I had sizzling garlic prawns.
My dish came to the table bubbling hot and full of chopped garlic and hot peppers. So good.
Then we had strong espresso cafes cortado. A lovely sunny day so we sat outside.

I'll light the candles on his cake soon (evening here now) and we'll have coffee and cake.
