Chocolate Brown Powder Room 90% complete w/ pics

still waiting for the toilet seat, 2 sepia prints and need to buy hand soap, lotion, window treatment and glass shelf accessories.

any ideas in re: glass shelf accessories or window treatments? window is not pictured by it is located on the wall to right of the toilet (when seated). single window (inside mount measures 22'). was looking for a woven/bamboo shade but all seem to start at 23'.

I think it is rich and gorgeous.. but I am not feeling the bamboo shade. It kind of feels too casual. What immediately came to mind was an idea/project I have had in mind for my kitchen. I want to make a roller shade with fabric. I could see a brown on creme damask type scroll print or a rich brown stripe. I'd keep the background light but add some interest with a pattern.

What are you going for in the room? I definitely get a comfortable elegance from what you have there now.

I like funky's idea for a roller shade. Or maybe a roman shade in a cream tone with dark brown ribbons for the ties.

Thanks! Housetohome--I actually e-mailed them two years ago about it when the show first came out--got pretty much the same response--although they said something about looking into it (which they obviously didn't because they still don't know!). I don't think her tile is identical to the one I got, but it's close. The tile I got was on the low end of Walker-Zanger. I don't think they still make it. It's the Orielle line 4X6 subway tiles in Tanager (green). I think it was $11.50/sf (which I thought was ASTRONOMICAL at the time...then I started pricing out marble basketweave for our bathroom floor!! Yikes!) I have seen some that are a little more "uniform" lately--these are all handmade tiles with a glaze on that red pottery-type tile--so they aren't all identical as you can see from the picture. I kind of like it, but I can imagine that some people might not. But still today, when I wander through our local tile shop, I still like Walker-Zanger the best--fits the decor of our old house the best. Oh, and kpaquette, the befores really were legendary on gardenweb at the time...and certainly not in a good way. Disgusting and completely disfunctional!! Eeew!! I don't even want to remember what that looked like--we were living in the front of the house at the time with the 80's apartment kitchen and our tenant (who was the previous owner--sold it to us as long as he could rent back for two years) had this kitchen. As I walk through the house, it's hard to imagine now how it was split up into a two-family. Amazing how quickly you can get used to spaces, I tell you!! :) Sarah

Hi Zen and Renee~ yes,we are going with white (off-white) lower and upper cabs. I like the dark pebble as well but it does have little shiny flecks in it that I'm not too crazy about. I do like the tone and warmth it gives and if we do use the cream BS tiles, it all goes very, very nicely. As for darker floor throughout the house....hmmm. Most of our furniture is dark (cherry, walnut, dark stained mahogany)...and our downstairs is essentially one large room. We have fairly dark carpet in there now and if I kept my walls light, it would work. As for the golden retriever hair (Australian Shep, Pomeranian and springer span. hair in reality)...sigh....are dark floor *that* hard to keep clean? I suppose I'd be sweeping and swiffering alot? I probably need to figure out where I could make a transition on my floor to go from dark to lighter...or do the perimeter in the dark and maybe a carpet inset?? I looked at the darker travertines but they were not very pretty and still carried that yellow tint when I wetted them to see how they'd seal. Janine

Patty cakes, Do you think that med. grey small lumbar pillows on the leather chairs would get 'lost'? I saw 2 on sale at JCP yesterday and almost got them but then thought that they might be too dark. IKEA has some nice charcoal throws but I really think that I'd like to try my hand at sewing a few. I get what you mean about not adding a 'color' to the rm. and I agree. I have checked out grey curtains but I have this weird fanatical thing about all of my curtains matching if they can be seen from another rm.! Will check out Parma's sexy rm! Jacy - That's exactly how RP looks w/ my white trim! I have a sickness you know. A paint sickness. I admit that I have a sample of PD. In my house it got a bit too purpley for me. There's an excellent episode of Find Your Style where they did a rm. in Hot Spring Stones (1 up from PD) and the accent wall PD. The accent colors were Silver Sage. It was beautiful! I saved that episode for a very longtime. There was also a woman who used to post here who did her bedroom exactly the way your thinking. Her sign on was Girlwithaspirin. Maybe you can do a google search and a pic will come up somewhere. Caroleoh - Yep - that's the rm. that was BT! It's such a small room that there are only so many angles that I can get pics of. I highly recommend BT!!!! Truly if I'd hadn't begun painting the rest of my downstairs such neutral but rich colors I would never have parted ways w/ BT but I just felt that it wasn't working w/ the whole overall concept that I was going w/ and that I really, really like alot. I can't wait to post finished pics of the downstairs. And I mean finished pics! 3 more pairs of curtains to buy (3 more to glue pom-poms on too), get DH to hang the DR chandelier - and maybe, just maybe, if my decorating piggy bank has enough money - get my big black and white print for the hallway.

Okay, that helps seeing the other angle. Now, remember that doing this on a monitor is kind of tricky, because perspective and proportion can be hard to judge. Here is what I would try. The first thing I would do is paint the small wall that the fireplace is on (just the little angled one) in a rich rusty fall red. Take the "H" and mount it above the tv, centered, and then add a wood curlique appliques on either side, painted black. Something like this, that will pick up on the shape of the arms of the couch and loveseat. You can get them at most home centers and some of the larger craft stores. Or, iron ones will work if you can find those. first ones on the page Take the couch and put it directly across from the fireplace, at the same angle. Put the loveseat to the left of the couch, at a right angle. Get a table between them to anchor the arrangement, with a lamp if you can. Once you do that, your little black chest may have to move. You could try it under the window, and add a colorful bench cushion on top. A fabric or leather ottoman, maybe round, would be a nice addition to work as a table and additional seating when you need it and would pick up on the curves of the furniture. I don't mind the clock being on that wall, and in fact I think you need some taller things there to balance the fireplace and the windows with the drapery when you get it. What I would do is once you move the furniture, take a look at that wall. You might add some floating shelving that is arranged in some kind of staggered fashion with the clock as a part of the grouping. That would be a place to add some touches of color with vases, art leaning on the shelves, etc. If there is room below that, you could add a console table and lamp there. As for your counter stools, I would do them in a brown-black, that would bring out the colors in the cabinetry but not be as strong as a solid black. Colorful cushions would be a nice addition if you like. Then bring in the drapery/window treatments in the dining area. Add a throw and a few pillows. Maybe a runner on the dining table with some red. If you are worried about the fall leaves feeling out of place year 'round, look for some berry stems in the reddish color, or some tall orchid stems in that color (oncidiums or cymbidiums would be nice). Mix in some grassy stems and a couple of larger green leaves, and it will work for you.

not really sure what mood i want to achieve. again, i purchased 2 sepia prints which should arrive next week. i will post once received. struggled with the towels and rug. not 100% happy but it does blend.

open to any and ALL suggestions.

any ideas where i can purchase the shade? again, having a hard time finding ANYTHING that is 22".

Very nice bathroom, personally I really like the towel and rug, they are different from the norm, thats what gives it style.

You might check out netshutters.com, also bedbathandbeyond.com, blinds.com, and smithandnoble.com for shades, blinds, or plantation shutters. Netshutters will send you a small sample of the actual shutter so you can tell what the material will look like. We bought some 3" wide shutters there and I really like that look, but am also loving roman shades right now as well. I haven't ordered from the others, but googled roman shades 22" and came up with several that have that size in all of the above type WT. I think your powder room is so pretty with the beautiful beadboard and the wall sconces make a great look! Thanks for posting your pics! Hope to see more when you get the rest in place.

Not sure how dressy you are looking to get, but this fabric (link below) may work for you. I love the pattern, but I have a thing for damask prints. Not sure if you want a white or natural background...this one is natural.

If you want a white background, go to fabric.com and do a search for Amsterdam fabric. It is another cool damask like print only on white background.

Your bathroom already looks amazing. Can't wait to see the finishing touches.

Pretty room.

Did you ever thing about not using a rug? I kind of like looking at the wood floors. The room is not large so I don't think it is really necessary. JMHO. I like the towels since they are plain and they seem to fit the period of the room.

The damask fabric beausoleil posted could be interesting if you go the roman shade route. I can even see white wooden blinds with contrasting ladder tape. There's nothing wrong with plain and elegant. You can add color with fresh flowers.

really liking the linen damask fabric. a definite consideration. the white wooden blinds with contrasting tape is also an enticing idea.

since there is so much wood in the room, i think a rug helps to more the space but once all the accessories are in, i may feel different.

toilet seat? yeah, that is what i would like to know as well. ordered the seat, bowl and tank about 2 month ago from a toto distributor in my area. all but seat arrived within a few weeks. APPARENTLY toto is no longer making the soft close seats for this model (promenade) so an ordered was placed earlier this week for the regular seat and i am picking it up tomorrow.

jejvtr- thank you for all the links. will have to check them out. i am pretty sure though that i am just going to buy the WS soap and lotion and spray paint the silver caddy an ORB. unless of course i can d=find a small rectangular tray to lay the soap and lotion dispensers on.

thank you SO much for ALL your kind replies. it is really flattering. compared to ALL the GORGEOUS bathrooms posted on here, i was a little hesitant to post my humble little room.

I love beadboard and had wondered what it would look like with chocolate paint. I like it! I think ;you're going to have fun with accessorizing it, trying different things to see how they work. It's unique and classy.
