Granite Tile Countertop In White Kitchen with Black Appliance

My interior designer (whom happens to be my best friend) and I are arguing about what color granite to go with in my kitchen. I painted all the cabinets antique white this weekend and will be replacing all the appliance in black. I think we should use a brown/black granite color such as brown black or baltic brown but she INSISTS on using black black granite.

Does anyone have any pictures of a white kitchen with brown/black granite and black appliance? I think she is so insistent on the black because everywhere you look online you see the white kitchens with the black granite. I just cannot stand black granite. I like the warm country feel of the browns (which reflects through the rest of the house.

In addition we are going for a rooster, french country feel in the kitchen... Please help me whichever way your opinion leads you!

I think you are correct, partly because it's what you want, and partly because you're right! :)

Soapstone would work, a soft black. But I think blackblack would ruin the warmth you're after.

Plus you don't like it.

If you "...just cannot stand black granite" then why even consider it? It wouldn't even cross my mind to put something I hate in my kitchen. Get what YOU want, not what your designer wants. Even if your designer is your best friend.

Hi 3Daisies, I love the combinations of two different countertops. Seeing some in person and gorgeous photos on GW, I have been swayed. I love the look. And don't be afraid of movement. I know you are looking for something simple but the right rock will look amazing. Have you thought about Jet Mist (Virginia Mist granite) Some have lots of movement but I saw some very simple grayish black slabs with almost no pattern. This looks like soapstone but works like a granite. It could be an option for you. Butcher Block, Quartz Black, Pearl Gray, Blue Pearl (Which can look gray), Slate, Soapstone, Nordic Black Granite, Azul Aran (has movement but looks nice with white marble) .... so many to list. Here are some ideas, to keep your mind working on this wonderful kitchen. hey.. isnt his the JB kitchen ...lol ... but now i see jack ... [this was the cabinet over the fridge problem/???? yes????] listen.. whats your long term goal ... mine was SS ... and unlike most peeps here ... i have a budget ... so ... as things broke down.. and needed to be replaced.. it was done SS ... first came the gas stove in SS ... when i moved in .... then.. a few years later.. the dishwasher took a carp.. and along came a SS DishW ... finally .. the bachelor 14 sq foot 25 year old fridge couldnt keep up with a family of 4 ... and along came the SS fridge .. otherwise... gut the whole thing.. and lets go for it all ... all said.. it took me about 10 years to go SS ... patience??? .. i dont know.. i dont measure my life.. by matching appliances .... but i got what i want ... BTW .. i like your kitchen.. the SS will look good with the wood and the black counter tops ... go for it .... ken

I prefer the first one. I can tell you from experience that once the slab is horizontal on your countertop and cut up, it won't look quite as busy, but will give just the right amount of visual interest. Plus the first one looks more high end. The second one looks like what goes in every tract home.

I have baltic brown granite and cream cabinets with heavy chocolate glazing. My appliances are a combo of black and stainless.

Ditto----and I love the pics above. Don't get why there's an argument at this point. Now, maybe a discussion about what kind of "white" goes with what granites and so forth, so since you've already painted your cabinets, there could be some granites that go better than others, knowing all the variations of "white," (seems pretty likely there will be one to go with antique white!) and finding the right brown-black for your cabinets, based on nuances of color, cost, stone qualities, and also on things like your floors, dishes, or favorite accent colors; or even being open to being surprised by something you come across and hadn't considered how it might look and so head off in a new direction based on what looks great-- but seems pointless to insist you "need" black. That appears to be someone else's kitchen.

IMO, you answered this for yourself :) Your friend MAY be your designer, but remember, it's YOUR kitchen.

I have argued with DH about painting our 80's oak cabinets, but that's different, because it's his house, too, so he gets an opinion. BTW, the cabinets are being painted :)

Stand your ground, I think you'll be much happier when you walk into your beautiful kitchen every morning. Granite is kinda permanent, it's not like painting the wall the wrong color!

Countertops are expensive, YOU need to love your countertop, unless she paying for it?
