I have dishcloths coming out of my ears I found a round rug pattern that I converted into a dishcloth and they were so much fun to make .
DS said don't give me any of them!! One year I used two strands of yarn and made a lot of rugs very easy with huge hooks. The cats had their own mats to sit on.

I just got back from 6 weeks in Florida and the friend that I stay with, crochets alot...Every night we'd sit and drag out the yarn....I finished 7 baby afghans while I was there...Project Linus is always in need of baby blankets as well as other organizations....

I crocheted a little hat for my Great Nephew Noah just before Christmas and I haven't seen him yet and I am pretty sure the hat won't fit him now. LOL

Years ago I went on a spurt of crocheting afghans and gave them all away as gifts. Some were pretty huge. Instead of doing them in strips I just kept on adding. I don't like to piece things together. LOL

Pattern:

I hook

A few ounces of sport weight thread (I think this is Jamie)

Pattern works on a multiple of 6 + 3.

Large Shell = 5 DC in a single stitch

Small shell = 3 DC in single stitch

Gauge is not particularly important. My doll blanket is 11X12 inches,
approximately.

1. Chain 39 and 5 DC in 6th chain from hook, sk next 2 ch, 5 DC in next ch
across to create 8 large shells.

2. Ch 3, turn, sk 2 ch and 2 dc, *small shell in next DC, sk next DC, DC in
next 2 DC, sk next DC*, repeat from * to * across to ch 1, DC in 2nd ch of
turning ch = 8 small shells.

3. Ch 3, turn, sk 2 ch and 1 DC, *large shell in next DC, sk next 4 DC,
large shell in next DC*, repeat from * to * across to DC into 2nd ch of
turning chain.

4. Repeat alternating rows 3 and 4 to desired length. Do not break yarn.
Edging:

Ch 1 and SC around the edges, with 63 SC for long sides and 35 SC for short
sides.

*Chain 4, sk 2 SC, SC in next SC* around joining with slip stitch into first
SC

Working in front of previous row, *ch 5, SC into first SC inside loop of
previous row* Continue around and join with sl st into base of first ch 5.
Break off yarn, weave in ends.

Note: To use this stitch pattern to make squares, omit the edging.

SO does that mean after I do the 5 DC in 6th chain and skip 2 Ch, then I do 5 more DC and skip 2 chains and then 5 more DC and skip 2 chains?

I too am tired of the Afghans, dishcloths , ect.

Try the Aran knitting. I love the sweaters so I have made up my mind that I will learn to do this. If you go to Aranknits.com/square2.htm you should be able to find the directions if you are interested. The Twist 3 really had me frustrated but I got it figured out. Had to print off ethicalknitting.co.uk

One good thing is that when you live out in the boondocks learning something new helps make the winter go faster. Maybe in a couple of years I'll get one made.

I crochet doilies, tablecloths and bedspreads with the thin crochet thread. I have crocheted for over 45 years and can't imagine not sitting down at night for a little "crochet therapy"!!

Have ya'll tried using the thread yet for doilies?

Deb I tried. I almost finished a doily and have it in the bag with the hook and Thread it was in honor of my Mother who did beautiful work like that as well asthe afhgans etc It was just too tedious for me the skinniest yarn I'm comfortable with is the dishcloth yarn. I have a bedspread Mom made me with beautiful roses on it. I admire anyone who does this fine work.

Me too Minnie. I looked at doily thread and the size of the small hook and no way could my eyes handle that!
I picked up a crocheted tablecloth a long time ago in a cream color and love that thing and now I'm thinking of the hours it took to make it! Yikes!

LOL!!! I absolutely love making things with that teeny tiny thread...thank God for my progressive lens! hahahaha

I have made so many doilies and tablecloths. I have a closet full of them, my daughters hope chest is filled to the rim with everything you can imagine. I need to see if I can sell some of the stuff but don't know if anyone would buy it. But it is a labor of love for me to make doilies and tablecloths. Right now I am almost finished with a round pineapple tablecloth I made with size 30 thread....it is like dental floss or thinner!

I would love to make doilies. I am looking for something like that to put on the arms of my new couch.

My dad's stepmother made all kinds of lacey items using thread. She crocheted beautiful tablecloths and bedspreads and made little dress pot holders that I used to play with all the time. Somewhere in this house I have a set of her tiny crochet hooks I just don't know where my Dad hid them. LOL Grandma H taught me how to crochet when I was about 5 by teaching me to chain using my fingers. My Grandma M taught me how to knit and embroider.

There is nothing better than inherited crochet hooks! Get to hunting girl and find them babies...LOL I love the look of doilies on end tables, perhaps an oblong one on the coffee table. A tablecloth can brighten up the dining table and make it look so homey. I'm 50 years old and I have crocheted every single day since I was about 4 1/2 or 5 years old. Mama taught me to read directions before I could read a book. When Magic Crochet and Decorative Crochet quit publishing their magazines was one of the saddest days of my life!

Well I found the bag and yarn and doily. a photo is attached. It is from the book Classic Doilies by American School of Needlework. I started following direction for "Fans" and as I progressed I found they were instructions for "Flowering Clusters"
I marked a date on the instructions 6/3-6/5/94 which must represent the time I spent on it. I think there are about 7 or 8 rounds to go to finish it. Maybe I'll get inspired It is pure white but came out darker in the pic.

Use kitchen cotton yarn to make bibs too. Basically you could use the dishcloth pattern you like and crochet ties on it or find a bib pattern.

Minnie it is lovely. I think I have one in the closet made from that same pattern. I think the pineapple pattern is my favorite for some reason.
It will be very pretty when you finish it!

I take this to mean that you crochet 5 double crochet in the 6th chain from hook...skip next 2 chains and put 5 double crochet in the next chain...continue this until you reach the end of the chain. It sounds like it should end in the 5 double crochet. When you complete the chain you should have 8 large shells in a row.

But you have probably figured this out already! LOL

Oh I am so ashamed....I have not gotten my knitting out of the 5th wheel and we have been what home since before thanksgiving.....I sooo need to finish the afagan I started for my neice and I am not sure I even remember how to knit now...okay this weekend or monday I am getting it out and going to put up my books that are taking up all my time....Stacy
