Help-polished nickel vs chrome?
Comments (7)You will be able to find polished nickel towel bars, lights, etc., but they will cost a bit more, and selection may be a bit limited. Rejuvenation and Restoration Hardware are two sources that seem to always carry lots of polished nickel. Some fixtures mfrs -- Grohe, for example -- have limited selections of faucets & showerheads, and others have lots of polished nickel. I'm doing the same thing with polished nickel. I had to use chrome for the under-sink plumbing S curve and such; my plumber told me that if I wanted the plumbing to be plated in polished nickel, it would cost $250, and I decided that I just didn't care $250 worth. I also have chrome grab bars in the shower because my choices were brushed nickel/slippery finish and chrome/easy to grip finish, and obviously practicality is far more important than precise color. Good luck! Blue...See MorePolished Nickel or Chrome Sink Drain?
Comments (26)As far as i know, "Stainless Steel" is pure stainless through and through, in the body of the metal. "Vibrant SS" or any other adjective (or fancy name) is a PVD plating. As far as i see, drains get the worst possible conditions. Even worse than sinks. Or, as bad as the sink bottom gets. Nota: There are no chrome plated sinks. There are no brushed nickel sinks. -- As far as i know, most drains bought and sold are not plated. And none of the stainless drains. As far as i know, in terms of matchymatchiness, nobody ever notices that their drain assembly is pure stainless (when they have BN or chrome or something close to stainless) As far as i know, they never ship PVD stainless (fancy adjective in front of the word stainless) drains. Only "stainless" drains. In general, I think drains ought not to be plated, because they get the worst conditions. I'm eager to know what the guarantee is on plated kitchen drains. In bathrooms, plated drains are normal. Chrome. -- This information is provided in the spirit of sharing. I hope everyone takes it that way, permanently. Some people in GW's kitchen forum say at times that it sounds like males talk down to females. I don't think so, not a whit. When someone dumps a lot of information, it is not a bad thing. Be happy. When someone corrects buehl, it is OK too. We don't need to engage in self censorship just because it's buehl (a respected contributor). I seem to be the only one correcting buehl. I've done it before a couple times. Hey, shouldn't it be more normal? Side note over. -- Hth....See MoreSatin nickel faucet with polished nickel hardware?
Comments (4)bumping this up. Anyone out there who's actually done what I'm proposing? My California migrated lighting designer-who's helped me immensely on many kitchen design issues, is a bit more of a purist on finishes. My notes of our early discussion show he suggested hardware in satin or stainless steel for their sheen but not brushed nickel which is more matte. Antique nickel, brass, antique (aged) bronze etc was also high, polished nickel not so much. Also, I recently saw a "what's new in 2013 kitchens" and it said popular hardware are satin, orb, some brass, but not seeing as much polished. If you know of a "bright" satin cabinet hardware maker, please do share. A lot might depend on the base metal in the collection. :/ Thanks again....See MoreWould Polished Chrome or Brushed Nickel look better? (Pics)
Comments (21)"lynn2006: Ohh, good point - we'll have to consider what looks best with ss appliances! We're planning on doing our own trim for the Ikea cabinets, so I've done a bunch of googling on paint matches. I read that Simply White (which happens to be our trim color for our casings; I love it) is a match for Lindingo. While Ben Moore's Cloud White and Ralph Lauren's (potentially discontinued) Studio White WW09 are good matches for Adel White. The Adel White Ikea cover panels that we bought Do Not seem to match the doors!!! They are a brighter white and much glossier!! I don't know if we are the only ones with that problem, but we are returning them and plan to make our own (hopefully better matching, and cheaper!) cover panels instead. (This may have been more info than you wanted - sorry about that!)" Thank you for letting me know since I have not looked at Ikea yet and I had planned to go with the shaker door and drawer without any slab drawers and fell in love with the inset but Home depot is having a sale and I got a good price on fancier doors that I first thought were not my taste but they are growing on me when I saw the price and how much better storage I would have and they are close to the BM Cloud White color which is what I wanted. I may have to take a trip to Ikea and back to the local store with the inset cabinets and then price it all out. Home Depot is offering free trash can and recycling bin and organizers, free hardware (but I am having a touching time falling in love with the free hardware), free double silver ware drawer, free paint finish upgrade, free pull out shelves (but I really wanted drawers) and I am waiting for a price on the granite counters and the removal of the soffit, removal of the old cabinets and the tile installation. I love the Ikea organizers and my others choice is covering the soffit with trim since the bigger cabinets are pretty but I am not even 5 feet and have enough problems reaching selves right now and need a stool and ladder for the higher shelves. I am not sure which to vote for yet since I have not begun this process yet but I chose the chrome for my bathroom since I liked the bling....See Morebusybee3
