To market.....to market.....

No, I didn't buy a fat pig and no I'm not talking about the farmers' market. Today I went a bit north of me to Yoder's Amish Market in Blanch NC. I've been meaning to give this a visit for several years and finally found the place doing a google search this week.

The original owner was Amish and there are Amish folks living in the area. The store smelled of delicious baked goods which didn't tempt me. Instead, here's a list of what I bought:

"fine" whole wheat flour

corn relish - for my mom

steel cut oats - wanted to give these a try

Pakistani pitted dates

whole black peppercorns

sweet potato pancake mix

small jug of B grade maple syrup

pearled barley - the stores here seem to only have instant

sweet lebanon bologna

dried mixed vegetables for soup

small red beans - smaller than reg. kidney beans

golden seedless raisins

garlic pepper

chopped dry onion

The last two items will be used to make the dry rub for sticky chicken. For some reason, all onion powder turns rock hard on me, so I am going to blend up the dried onions to add to the rub mix.

The dried vegetables for soup can be used in spinach dip or in the Curried Chicken Noodle soup that I love.

And.....this week they are opening a store in Salisbury - that is where my sons are living at present! They also have an online store. I'll leave a link.

Yeah, I'm dancing a jig!
