High water in our yard...3 pictures...

we live right on a river (we're back home in MN). We are in no danger of flooding, but we sure have lots of water. And it has rained all day today.

Closer.

Joan, you're supposed to be living on a river... not IN a river!

Wow, so glad to hear there isn't a threat to your home.

We have just the opposite problem down here. Here are some pics I took a couple of weeks ago at our main lake in this region Lake Meredith when it was at an all time low (dropped another foot since):

I love the birdhouse!

Interesting shots...especially the color of the lake bottom.
It's always awful when a watercourse goes this low, hopefully it will turn around.

How high is the water?

Good morning To bring the pond up to top level, it takes enough rain to get the seasonal creek running, it feeds the pond. I look to three or four storms in a weeks time, about 4" total rainfall to get it going. The creek feeds the pond until it dries up in late May, if we are lucky in June, if it's a dry year as early as April, then evaporation sets in and the pond shrinks little by little, it's also spring-fed, so it doesn't dry all the way up. For house-water and garden/animals we have a well, pretty reliable, although now we need to be careful not to run too much water at once.

High water table under our house? It's on a hill

In sites where there is a high-water table, it is sometimes necessary to install pumps at the perimeter of the property just to keep the excavation dry enough to pour the foundation. And the pumps then remain in place permanently. Here's a picture of a house I built in 1989 (r) and lived in for a couple of years. To the left is a home built in 2007. Both have similar deep basements. Mine was dry as a bone; the home on the left has a sump pump that runs 24/7. (The owner also has a battery backup pump and a spare, just in case.) I also built two more homes down the same street, maybe a 20 foot lower elevation. No water problems at all.

The well point is at the deepest end of the pool. Be careful installing one. A hydrostatic valve might work better. Sometimes depending on what is surrounding your property if you are constantly pumping water out from under your pool you could also be pumping water from underneath other structures. Many times the water is what is supporting the structure. If you dry soil out than your soil will fail. That's how sink holes happen. Consult a soils engineer and do some testing before you install a pool. I have a soils report done before I even finalize a bid on a project. He can tell you what type of soil you have so you can appropriately design the engineering for your pool. It's cheap insurance. Hope this helps.

All from those multiple feet of snow you had the month of April? My Uncle from SD went home today to a blizzard in the Black Hills. He made it to Wall where Interstate is closed, I hear they are getting a foot to two of snow! Weird weather.

That is unbelievable. I remember when we saw Lake Mead, we were shocked at how low it was/is.
