High water in our yard...3 pictures...

we live right on a river. (we're back home in MN). We are in no danger of flooding, but we sure have lots of water. And it has rained all day today.

The water is receding very very slowly, they are still letting water out of the dam because the water level is so high, it's lapping over the floodgates, somehow. I hope it'll be OK, too, but I was talking to a lady today at the hairdressers, she lives closest to the bridge, like 50 yards away and she said the night of the flood, they listened to trees slamming into the bridge all night, BOOM, BOOM, creak, moan.... She thinks it can't help but be damaged, but her DH thinks it'll be OK after minor repairs. We won't know until all the water is down, I guess.

The well point is at the deepest end of the pool. Be careful installing one. A hydrostatic valve might work better. Sometimes depending on what is surrounding your property if you are constantly pumping water out from under your pool you could also be pumping water from underneath other structures. Many times the water is what is supporting the structure. If you dry soil out than your soil will fail. That's how sink holes happen. Consult a soils engineer and do some testing before you install a pool. I have a soils report done before I even finalize a bid on a project. He can tell you what type of soil you have so you can appropriately design the engineering for your pool. It's cheap insurance. Hope this helps.

Ames is dry now except for the Hilton Coliseum where they are still pumping water out. We are supposed to get more rain by Friday or Saturday. I haven't been swimming since last Tuesday and the aquatic center will be closed for a few more days. Darn, I miss swimming. Yesterday when I went to lunch with friends, one room of the restaurant was filled with ServiceMaster employees on their lunch hour. They were brought in from other states to help clean the Hilton and other buildings.

Leslie, if our steps get under water, I get nervous. So far, the water is about 40 feet or so. And it would have to rise 3 feet just to start getting closer, we are at least 3 feet above the water.

All from those multiple feet of snow you had the month of April?
My Uncle from SD went home today to a blizzard in the Black Hills. He made it to Wall where Interstate is closed, I hear they are getting a foot to two of snow!
