Please help me with deciding on whether to paint or not to paint

Please help me with this delemma.

We had pretty much decided we wanted to have white or off white cabinets, but I have read a lot about people having problems with paint cracking and peeling as well as other problems.

Would like to hear from those who have had white cabs for awhile and whether they would buy them again. Any comments will be appreciated so much.

My heart wants to go with the white,but don't want to do it if there are problems.

Hi, are you asking if you should paint your existing cabinets or purchase new white cabinets in a factory finish, or purchase new and have them professionally painted?

We are replacing our old cabs with new ones. Either factory or new unfinished with pro painted ones. Haven't found a cabinet maker we want to go with or anyone who can paint unfinished ones, so either would apply for now.

I'm just concerned about how well the paint will hold up.
We don't want to deal with chipped paint.

We had a local cabinet dealer tell us that he didn't recommend painted cabs for the reasons I stated above.

sueb20: I love the names of paint, that sounds beautiful and, interestingly enough, it was the kind of color that I wanted to find for the siding of our home; we finally went vinyl to my husband's delight. I found the color on BM's virtual fan and I'll be pulling that color when I go to the store next week. It's overwhelming when I go there and to think that I'm going to need to find the right colors for five other rooms; OMG! Thank you for your suggestion.

I haven't used these particular colors, but of your two choices, I think Antique White with Macadamia would be better. There is too little contrast between the colors with the other combination for my taste. Are these your choices or were they given to you to choose from? If these are your choices, have you considered using Antique White for the cabinets with Basket Beige for the walls? I think Basket Beige is a richer color than Macadamia, but I'm not crazy about it with Softer Tan. Or, maybe changing to Creamy (SW 7012) or Roman Column (SW 7562) for your lighter color?

Jon - I see what you mean... those have obviously been there quite a while. Mine are pruned/limbed up like trees and create more of a true canopy. I just finally got all my hostas planted, and under the redbuds I ran into a few roots, but it wasn't bad. My trees are only a few years old though. We'll see how they do. NHL - Maybe it's a place that would be better for just some sun-loving shrubs....?

We did look at Fernwood green but we decided it was a little too "apple green" for us. But we did consider it! The rest of the house that we redid so far is pale yellow, pale blue, light grey, and light grey/beige/greige.
