I'm not a matchy matchy type either, but it does sound pretty. Maybe because the sitting area is small. Maybe a solid border or something to break up the stripe a bit?

Also, just realized, the $8.99 is for half a yard. Still a pretty good deal, especially considering the store I ordered the chair from charged me $117 a yard for the matching floral. I ordered 2 yds extra in case I wanted to cover an ottoman in the future not realizing I could find the same fabric online for a third of the price or less.

I was feeling like I wanted to see more red than in the wide brown stripe above and now see they have a crimson stripe. Looks very nice also from what I can see. I think I might try to find another complementary fabric out of their coordinating series as far as another print goes. Maybe even pick up a little of the blue from your ceiling color in it.

Oh squirrel, you are brilliant. I never thought of mixing and matching from the other colourways. Just thought I had to stick with the sepias, but those crimsons are nice. Might even be able to add a teastain.

And while I have your attention, could you give me your opinion on this chandelier? I love it, but it is too expensive (they tack on 30% to Cdn orders). I'm looking for something similar locally. Do you think it goes? Remember, I'm trying to go for a modern cottagey look.

I think it depends in part on what kind of treatments you are considering. I am assuming not full drapery, since you have the baseboard heating.

I wonder if you might consider the stripe in the tea stain instead of the sepia? It would have similar stripe colors and the background looks like it would match the lighter flowers in your chair, but it wouldn't be such a heavy feel on the windows. The room has a little darker feel because of all the wonderful woodwork and the ceiling.

If you are thinking pillows, I would do one print from the series on one side, and another on the reverse, for some easy change up possibilities. A great brush fringe would be nice on them as well for texture.

Drapes can be full because of the type of rads (hot water - they don't get really hot). But was just considering side panels that would cover about 3/4 of the outside windows.

As you said, the room does have a darker feeling, but the dining room end feels lighter. The dark chairs and black wardrobe are at the other end. I'm wondering what you think about doing a darker print (sepia stripe?) on the romans on the dining end to balance the dark. But doing lighter on the pillows and living room curtains. Have I made this too confusing. Would also really value your opinion on the chand. mentioned above. Thanks.

First, let me say that I love that style of pendant light, and would LOVE to have that in my home over my kitchen table.

That said, I don't see it in your space. I think it helps with the modern vibe, but doesn't bring in the cottage feel at all.

I found a few that I thought might work - the first is perhaps too cottage for you, but I think the espresso finish and clean lines give a more modern take:

The next one is an all-time favorite of mine, and I think would bring a nice mix of modern and more cottage into the room, but it is much more expensive. Perhaps there is something out there similar in feel:

As for the windows, I don't think it matters if the two styles are different, but I would keep them more similar in color weight - both on the darker side or both on the lighter. SInce the two rooms are so visible to one another, I think you want balance on the two ends, even if the two treatments are styled differently.

I would mount the drapery panels on the outside of the window area in the front, so that almost nothing of the actual windows is covered. Those two small wall spaces on either side aren't really that useful, and would be a great way to visually widen the space by having the panels on either side wall.

Hi les, I absolutely love the kensington chandelier. It is too pricey for us right now but I think I could probably find a cheaper similar version. I had looked at that style originally, but I'm a bit worried about how it is going to look with the kitchen chandelier which is essentially the same shape, but with downfacing glass shades and ORB finish (don't really like the ORB and don't want it in the dining room). The two chandeliers are within 15' of each other and you see them together from several places in the rooms. Maybe I just need to get over this. It may not be as big a problem as I'm thinking it will be.

The 1st one is too cottagey and the last one just doesn't do anything for me.

Thank you for the advice on the drapes. I'm leaning towards the lighter for both. Maybe a stripe at one end and paisley at the other.
