If the color in the picture is correct it goes with the peachy rust in your couch....right? The style is a perfect match!!!! LOVE that ottoman!!! If you need to use it as a coffe table just put a tray on it.....ottomans are very comfy!!!! I vote....get it!

IMO, adding leather to your room, with a piece that beautiful, is a great way to introduce another texture, without it looking too busy.

The legs have a similar feel as the ones on your sofa, with a bit of softness to the lines.

If the color is right (and I think it might be), I'd jump on it and think it could be the crowning touch to your room.

I like it! Do you know how big it is? The color looks like it would go just perfectly with your furniture.

I have almost the exact ottoman, but square (is that square? it looks like a rectangle.) It's from RH and we got it on sale (floor sample) for $500 - so it was pretty pricey to begin with. I know RH also made the same one in rectangle, it was part of their Buster line.

If it's the same it's more brown, with distressed leather. We love love ours. I have a pretty tray on it so I have a place for cups/glasses, etc.

I think most CL people expect a little negotiation. I'd start and $75 and see what his counter is. But i'm not a good negotiator at all. LOL

Maybe go and say you need to see the color IRL, pretend you're not sure it'll go with your furniture, and then low ball. I think if you could get it for $80ish that would be fair, if it's in good condition. But really I'd probably pay full price if I knew it would be perfect. I really am a bad negotiator. haha

I could take one of the matching pillows that went with the furniture along for a comparison. Man that would suck to get there and wonder if it looks clashy IRL.

She, I think you need to measure it out using newspaper or something else. Just eyeballing it, I think it may be too big for your space. I could be wrong but I'd rather you be sure than get it home and then find out you don't have enough space or that it will make your room look crowded.

Deborahnj - I will make sure to measure tonight. I'm also not sure I can convince DH we need this or any form of coffee table. He likes to lay on the floor to watch tv. I also want to make sure we have enough room to maneuver around without the squished feeling.

Deborahnj is right about measuring, but 36" x 24" isn't that large for a coffee table.

Shee, I'd bring a whole cushion with you, not a coordinating pillow.

Gosh, shee, your CL has such amazing stuff on it. What are you on it everyday? It's a very nice piece. I love our leather ottoman in our family room. Everyone puts their feet up on it--like you would not with a coffee table. Maybe your DH will like it so much, he'll stop lying on the floor when he watches TV. I think the price is fair, but I'd offer $80 for it. I find it easiest to deal in $20s with CL since no one wants to hassle with making change. Too much less and they won't reply to you. Just make sure there are no rips or tears in the leather. Nice thing is that the wood will blend with what you have now. You could look a long time before you find something else that works as well. You can dress it up by putting a tray on it with a few candles--a la my3dogs as I'm not the best with table decor.

You know that some leather is sold that way--distressed--which is different from when it's really beat up. Make sure to look for any scratches and tears. I really like this piece and it does seem to go well with your other upholstered items in the room, but my main concern is that I don't think it goes with the inlay table you just bought.

Would be curious to see what others think on that as sometimes I'm a bit eclectic on mixing styles, but people here on this board usually tell me when it's just not going to work. I remember when I wanted to put my inlay tables in my FR and no one thought they worked together.

I was sitting here comparing pics side by side and wondered how that ottoman would look basically being infront of the inlay table. That's what you'd be looking at from the kitchen view.

Shee: I hope someone else replies. I just don't see those pieces working next to one another, though separately I like them very much. If you get it, then I'd probably move it back the way you had it earlier--with the inlay table in the corner and the table above in the center. That inlay is not meant to have a big piece of furniture in front of it. As for the style, I'd call it a french reproduction. The ottoman looks like British Colonial to me. Adding those few final pieces can be so tricky--esp. in a collected room.

I think it will be perfect and will not take up all that much room. Your hubby will still be able to stretch out on the floor.

Do you have a family room too or is this it? On a more practical note, I wanted to add that I think an ottoman is a much better solution than a coffee table if you are planning a family. There were years at a time when my kids were little we stored the coffee table in a closet. Advantage of the ottoman is there are no edges. Now my kids are older and when we all sit together and watch TV, we always use the ottoman to prop up our feet.

So my vote, is to get it--assuming it's in good condition. Then revisit where each of the end tables will go. I find every time I add a piece to one of my rooms, I have to fine tune everything else.

I also see nothing wrong with putting the ottoman in the same room with the inlay. Be sure and check out the seam (hope it's not a crack) that appears to be separating within the frame of the ottoman.

BTW.....I understand it can be a personal preference, but putting a decorative rug on top of carpet is not uncommon.

When I told DH about the ottoman last night his first statement was, where am I doing to sit? (Hehe the furniture??!) Then it was, we don't need one. He finally saw it and didn't like that it was leather. I was taken back and informed him the next set of furniture after this will be leather. He then went from not liking leather to,"well not that color leather. It should be dark brown" I think the monitor color was throwing him off. If it would still be available I'm sure I could eventually convince him but it would be a battle. He doesn't normally fuss about stuff. If he would've liked the picture I wouldn't of hard near as hard of a time getting him to go along with it.

At any rate, I'm trying to view it as wasn't meant to be. I'm not sure I would've liked it that close to the new table and IMO that new table is too pretty to stuff back against the other wall where people can't really see the detail as well. After my CL experience a couple weeks ago when the end table I went to pick up was literally sold out from under me (more like right infront of me) I'm convinced good things do come to those who wait. Days later the new table I now have showed up and I like it much better. I also think visually in pictures something would look better there but in real life I don't know that I'm in love with the idea of an ottoman or coffee table in the room. It's like something in the way to walk around. I do think an ottoman would be better than a coffee table. (no sharp edges, comfy for your ankles and piggers) I also think I would prefer a round one. I'm pretty bummed right now but this will pass. :) (I would've tweeked the room for it) I'll keep my eyes open for something else. Thanks everyone for giving your opinions and thoughts!

I agree with Valinsv that the ottoman style kind of works against the more delicate and intricate table styles. However, I also agree with Parma that the leather would add a nice alternate texture to the room. I think you need to sit back and think about whether you want a comfy and somewhat heavy room-- or if you want to continue with adding the "lighter" styled pieces. Both are great looks-- but it is what will make you happy that counts.

My biggest fear-- which you will address by taking the pillow with you to look at it-- is that I suspect the sheen of the fabric and the leather is changing the colors somewhat in photos, and that in reality, the colors don't work all that well together. You will know that immediately when you see it.

The first thing that I noticed about the ottoman was that it was being stored in an attic. I don't know how long it had been there, but the weather extremes could put some real wear and tear on that leather and it may not have been in that great of shape.

Funky - I was concerned about the color a little. I'm not real great with this sort of thing so I could see me buying it and once I got it home clashing bad or something.

I was hoping to see a pic of the ottoman in your room because I was so curious how it would work; but I agree with you that it would've obstructed the inlay table which has become a secondary focal point given it's placement in front of the picture window. I think you and I and our DH's are very similar I can just laugh at it. DH thinks I've put too much furniture into my LR and would always cringe if I were to consider another piece. Now, I've moved on to the garden and just planted a bunch of annuals and strawberries in a bed and DH asks me a few days later, "Don't you think you planted them too close?"

I do agree, good things come to those who wait. And sometimes you do need to just wait and live in a space to see what (if anything) you need to add. I particularly find that after a party I will know if I need something or need to rearrange a room. I ask myself: Does everyone have a place to sit comfortably? Was the arrangement conducive to conversation? Did everyone have a place to set their drinks? Could we all walk comfortably around the room? Did we have the right lighting for what we wanted to do? Then I also consider how we use the room on a daily basis and are we comfortable there.

None of us here on this board know exactly how you use this room. There is always a balance between decor and comfort and while we can suggest items for the former, you and your DH are the best judges of the latter.

As for an ottoman, I love the idea of a round tufted one with a skirt--as I think you have enough legs/wood already in your LR. Something like deltabreezes' one in her LR. See thread below.

I've seen an ottoman like Delta's at Home Goods--though choice of pattern is more limited.

Could always get a vintage coffee table on CL as a place holder until you see the right ottoman. After all you have some amazing deals on your CL. Anything Duncan Phyfe with the pedestal feet. Whatever you get, I like the round/oval shape given the angles which you have the sofa/loveseat.

I guess to buy an ottoman full price right now isn't really an option with all the other things we're working on. I did see what appeared to be a nice coffee table the other week on CL but I don't believe it was oval. (pic is dark! what's Dilly's CL code for that again? haha) Here's the link.
