Beautiful,healthy pups. She certainly has a variety to choose from. A true Heinz 57 litter. Something for everyone.

Larry, Well, this time I got rain overnight too, though only about half as much as you got. So, any plans I had for doing anything in the garden today are postponed because the rain fell after 4 am and the garden was soggy wet and muddy this morning. With the heat and humidity, at least the mosquitoes will be having fun out there. Auther, You never know. Maybe your first freeze will be late and you'll be able to leave your sweet potatoes in the ground a bit longer. Or, you could cover them up with a heavy blanket if just one cold, frosty night is forecast. Often, down here in southern OK, we'll have that first cold, frosty night and then we'll get another 4-6 weeks of nice, warm and almost-perfect weather before it actually gets cold again. So, if I can protect plants on the first cold night, then they get to grow for a whole lot longer. I've left mine in the ground and had their foliage frosted before because I didn't cover them, but the potatoes themselves were fine. Sometimes, if sweet potatoes are exposed to weather that is too cold, they spoil easily and don't last as long in storage....but that hasn't been an issue for me here in OK. Usually, my soil temperatures are still very warm when the first frost hits, and I think that helps the sweet potatoes shrug off the frost. After they have frosted, if all the foliage is blackened, I immediately cut it off and throw it on the compost pile (where the deer will eat it as soon as they see it) and then sometimes I harvest the sweet potatoes right away, but other times I've left them in the ground another week or two after the frost and then dug them, and they were fine. Yes sir, peas are popular at the farmers' market. It isn't tuff to sell what's been picked especially if the customer has a choice of snap, snow, and shell peas. It isn't even all that tuff to pick 'em. Peas have to be the lowest production veggie out there. Don't let your kids grow cherry tomatoes, David. Certainly, the tiniest varieties shouldn't even be considered. We grew Jelly Beans one year - pick, pick, pick - uh, what's that? Half a cup? I'm not sure if I could carry a cattle panel out into the garden. A lot of my decision-making is based on infirmities. Probably, I should go with double rows and 2" chicken wire . . . Part of my technique, however, is to brace against wind storms. In that larger, more exposed veggie garden, I've even thought about "stapling" the melon vines to the ground!! pea pickin' digitS'

I am glad you brought this up at this very moment, Keen. The entire 2011 harvest of Green Arrow was completed in a matter of minutes and I enjoyed some of them with new potatoes, last night! What a difference a year makes! I don't know what the problem was this spring. Or, I don't know what the critter was this spring! Something feasted on the first 2 beds of peas I put in! The seedlings had barely emerged when they began to show damage - like grasshoppers make. But, I hadn't seen 1 grasshopper. The only bugs in the garden I had seen in any number were flea beetles and yet, I don't think I ever saw any on the peas. What I am wondering is if the beetle larvae were in the soil in that part of the garden and chewing up the seedlings as they emerged. I don't know but it was terrible. I sprayed with rotenone/pyrethrin without apparent effect. Only a few plants at the end of one bed survived well enuf to flower and produce pods. They were so few and stunted that I didn't build any trellis for them. Elsewhere, the peas were replaced with cucumber transplants and more tomatoes! This is the 1st time I can remember when I've had so much trouble with peas. And the spring weather in 2010 & 2011, was remarkably similar. Good Luck with your peas in 2012! Rosarama, im in no way taking credit for this growing medium, I learned about it on this forum. Its strickly for containers for what I know about it. The man that came up with it to my knowledge is Al Tapla. 5 parts pine bark, ground up cut up or whatever is done to it till its the average size of a dime. 1 part coarse perlite 1 part peat 2 cups dolimite, 1 cup of pro max minors, 2 cups of slow release fertilizer I mix every thing in a 36 gal container, a little at a time. I believe its the best thing since sliced bread. Look up and study Als mix. If your serious about growing maters in containers you should learn about Als mix, it would save you a lot of heart ache, and make you much more successful in growing in containers. Brought a big smile to my face. She certainly produced a nice, healthy looking litter. To me, the pups resemble one another as to their configuration, like there might be one sire. But what was so precious is that they are equally divided as to fur. Three of each, as if it had been planned. I'd be hard put to choose the one I like best. I want one of each. LOL.

They are too, too cute!! They look so mature for only 4 weeks. Do you think they will be big dogs when they grow up? I agree that it would be hard to pick just one. They are so lucky to have you to take care of them and give them a good start in life. Way to go!!

Annz, I was thinking the same thing.

Debbie - Is the swelling going down on that teat? Please watch out for mastitis.

The puppies look adorable and so healthy. They are so lucky to have you as their guardian. :)

Thanks for all the compliments.I've been checking her teats and while they are all large,they are all soft not hard.When standing it doesn't look bad but I will for sure keep checking it.I didn't want to use that pic because of the teat but she is not working with me on the pics.Off to check the teat today.Debbie
