Interior Therapy-Jeff Lewis' New Show (LONG)

Anyone else see the first episode this week? First impression is meh. Didn't hold my interest the way I was hoping it would and the way Flipping Out always does.

[SPOILER ALERT]

The premise is that Jeff and Jenni move in with a family and do a super-accelerated remodel of a problem area in the home. Zoila also appeared briefly--a cameo role if you will.

In the first episode the family consisted of a truly obnoxious SAH Beverly Hills whip thin wife who seemingly lived to micromanage her household, most especially her husband. He was an asset manager aka wealth manager according to Jeff. However, for the life of me I couldn't figure out how the guy has enough wherewithal to get out of the house in the morning much less make enough scratch to keep his super-*itch spouse in designer clothes, a Range Rover and a house in la la land. Throughout the show all he did was either whine about being henpecked or scurry around cleaning up. They had 3 kids, all with painfully trendy names. One was Quinn, the other two I've already forgotten. To top off the dysfunction this couple had given their oldest kid the master bedroom(!) and were using a smaller bedroom just so the wife could use an adjacent walk in closet for all her clothes(!!).

Anyway the problem area in this episode was the couple's bedroom. I'm not at all sure just why the conceit is to do one of those Trading Places style makeover-in-30-second type shows, but the time frame for an entire remodel including gut job in a master bath was 5 days. As mentioned Jeff and Jenni actually moved in with the family which was also somewhat mystifying. Although that did lead to the only funny/interesting moments of the show for me: some quick scenes of Jeff horsing around with Jenni and once with Zoila. Only those few brief sequences IMO had the same warmth and humor that is shown so much on Flipping Out.

It got done but it wasn't all that interesting to me. I MUCH prefer to watch Flipping Out with Jeff, Jenni, Zoila, Gage and the rest of the cast of thousands that make up Jeff Lewis' world.

That wife is just plain evil. I'm not sure the DH can even call himself a "man." I hope the show gets better because I love Jeff/Flipping Out.

I doubt the husband or wife is going to like how they appear on TV. How embarrassing.

I saw it too and agree with all of the above mentioned. I too miss the old banter and dysfunction. It felt like it was too scripted like when Zoila came over, why?? Somehow it just fell short of interesting.

I cannot stand him but watched the first episode because I was curious. He does it with his brother, who he bosses around really bad. Russell is still trying to be the puppet master. He thinks he's in control of everything. And he pushed a cop because his temper got out of hand and almost got himself arrested until his brother talked the cop into giving him a break. His marriage on this first episode was crumbling (and now he's divorced, or in the process of a divorce I believe). Hopefully someday he'll realize what a jerk he looks like and is being to people and see that there's a lot more to life that what he's doing.

Lyfia, that's what Capenter explained about "code", too. He had also been a building (commercial) inspector before retiring. The joists were code compliant when built. And the slate... Carpenter showed Inspector that it was rated for fireplaces. It's in the write-up from the FP manufacturer...pre-installed. So glad I've saved all the original documents. GrayWings, the one harp I'll keep here lays down. Right now I have him up on the closet shelf in the bedroom. Ah, the joys of a 4-pound/4-foot harp. I've used an X-pen during "harp petting zoos". Very effective for keeping them from running loose around the hall LOL. And keeping mittengrabbins with dirty mittens from grabbing. Almost forgot! Carpenter put in a GFI plate, that was all that was needed. The receptacle was wired for it. He said the foreman probably ran out of GFI plates & told the crew to use a regular one. It's on the GFI circuit properly now. The cracked stair step underside we're discussing. And TaDa, I squirted WD-40 on the latch. No more sticky latch :-) When do we get to the fun stuff?!? My scene & set design skills are languishing. Are we there yet? I'm bored. Ooops! Once the dust settles, I'll probably be posting pictures, asking a slew of questions about "staging", too. Are first-time house sellers as "retentive" as we're being :-)

luk-I feel your pain, I am a 3rd generation native Miamian and I am NOTHING like a stereotypical Miami chick! That's jus what happens when the city you were born and raised in becomes more transient and grows with new people! All that said...I love Flipping Out and I really think he hams it up for the show and everyone who is on the show is "in" on the joke. I didn't like when he laughed about the client and her family getting sick and throwing up because of some issue with the construction (was it mold? Or bug spray? I don't remember.) That seemed like the meanest thing ever, especially since they showed the woman being sweet and not b!tchy or demanding.

If you have a Habitat Restore nearby you may want to check them out also. They're operated by Habitat for Humanity and always have great buys on home building materials (often brand new) that have been donated by contractors, homeowners, etc.

I'm doubting this version will have an episode as hilarious as the doggie psychologist who communicated with Jeff's dog and interpreted that doggie liked when Jeff and Gage had their romantic moments. Flipping Out was great; this reincarnation put me to sleep.

I agree...not as fun or interesting as Flipping Out. That homeowner woman did NOT come across as very attractive, did she?

Have similar feelings about the new Bethenny. If you're having marital problems should you really be doing a reality show?

Love Jeff Lewis, BUT this does not appear to be anywhere near as interesting as the Flipping Outs were. I pretty much agree with every other review posted so far. There's not enough characters or plot lines for an hour long show. The only way this show is going to hold anybody's interest is if they have interesting "homeowner customers". That certainly wasn't the case on the first episode. Rather than rooting for Jeff to do a great re-do on their house, all I was hoping for was for the evil wife to touch a live exposed electrical wire during the remodel.

Most likely next week's hoarder episode looks to be more interesting. So far, I'd have to say that this might make a decent 30 minute show, but its seems kind of forced stretching this into an hour long program.

Lastly, I kind of question Jeff's wisdom in minusing a bedroom and having the 2 girls share a bedroom - just so mommy can have her bedroom-sized closet. I'd like to see how this will work out a few years down the road when the girls are in their tweens and teens. I think they might be wishing for the good old days when they had 4 bedrooms.

The whole make over seemed to be glossed over. The theme was the meak husband with the wife he should divorce and why is he with her (shivers)? She had no redeeming qualities. Never quite caught on to Jeff's total mission. Was it to pick out EVERYTHING for the rooms he recalibrated and add that always present formula of pressure to finish on time? Why 5 days? It was a weak beginning. I am not interested in odd clients. So the hoarder one that is coming up is not for me. Less freaky people please. When you start doing this you know the show is a failure without content.

According to the interview, Jeff found the shoots taxing and out of his comfort zone. Plus, he mentioned probably not doing it again.

I'm a fan but like others I found the first show so-so. Then it dawned on me the title is Interior 'Therapy' and he is supposed to be changing not only the home but also work on any personal problems the home owners are having. I found it funny, Jeff Lewis becoming a people person!?
I miss his partner and wonder if he no longer wants to be part of the show but I would guess being on TV together didn't help their relationship.

I just wonder if Jeff had to cut back on personnel, and housing, and Bravo came up with this idea.

I just read on Huffington Post that he and Gage are still "on", and Jenni is getting married this year. Also (even better), Flipping Out will be back in August! So glad to hear that since I loved that show and feel kind of lukewarm at best about this new one. Also I agree - what happened to the husband's cahones on the episode??? Egads my husband would deserve the right to shoot me if I acted like that woman.
