Anybody going to see it in Rockefeller Center in NYC? It is from the 19th-23rd. Five whole days, and no weekend! ugh

Just wondering!

I saw that. He's a very good designer and I'd like the show if he wasn't so unbelievably mean to people. I watched it a couple of times and can see where the idea is to make fun of his compulsive problems but I really wish they'd find a better way to bring that into the story line without being so mean spirited. Between that show and the diva's (oops I mean housewives) of Orange county it makes people from the Los Angeles area look so shallow and dingy and we're not! I was raised there and honestly, it just irks me. What am I missing here? What's the catch that draws you to the show? I must be missing it.

I think I enjoy Jenny a lot, she is very funny. And well, Zoila, I mean how can anyone not love her? I think he just doesn't have the switch that makes his brain think before he speaks, because really, sometimes he does say what I'm thinking, ok, so it comes out a little nastier than what I'm thinking.

All people in CA aren't like this? aww geez, you just ruined it for me ;-)

yep, used soap. I wish that there were digital cameras around 25 years ago....boy would you love to see the photos. There was a clown statue with his pants area that stuck out--possibly a planter or utensil holder, a metal round tray with indentations that had the flowers of PA in them, (my dh thought maybe it was a tray to hold 6 Budweiser cans), a used sponge, His & Hers mugs (you know the ones with the antique cars on them), a chip & dip bowl (the dip bowl that clipped to the edge of the chip bowl). My Dad, who was very sick (passed away about 5 weeks later) was so mad--these were good friends of his. He was sure it was a joke when we told him about it, he thought that there must have been a check or something...but no. We took lots of photos of my dh putting the peach basket out at the curb for the trash, the clown hanging out the top. Well, it was certainly the most memorable gift I got that day!

When I see chandeliers like this ANYWHERE, but especially in a kitchen, I always want to know how often the help comes in to clean. I've cleaned a crystal chandelier (once!) and said never again. To keep it sparkly, one must remove each bobble one at a time and clean it with ammonia, dry it and re-attach it to the chandelier. In a kitchen, this would be a task that would have to be done at least monthly. The whole thing is just OTT. Kitchens and bathrooms are rooms one uses multiple times a day and must have a degree of practicality where cleaning is concerned. Unless one lives in an English manor house, why on earth would they want such high ceilings that will be difficult to keep clean? I love polished metals (including brass) in a kitchen but the brass on the marble is just WAY too busy. Trophy kitchen for trophy wife with trophy twins? Okay - that WAS snarky but really....

Unless I just zoned out & missed them, there are no photos of the bathrooms either. Maybe sellers didn't want their kitchens & baths splashed on the internet, or maybe they figured their buyers wouldn't want the exposure either...or maybe sellers don't go into the kitchen! It seems to me that the glorious location & views are the most important features. People who can buy a property for more than $20 million can make any changes they want to the house! (but it is a beautiful house).

I refreshed my oak kitchen with new counters, backsplash and farm sink. I used the Kohler Whitehaven "short apron" style which can be installed on a standard sink base cabinet. However, I don't think it will work in your corner, though I believe there is a 24" one. A competent carpenter / refinisher might be able to match the stain and reconfigure that corner. I did change out / add to my kitchen just a bit and the pieces I stained to match the rest of the kitchen blend right in. I did refinish my cabinets, but I kept them pretty much the same lighter oak color to match the rest of the woodwork in my home. However, I refinished and stained the cabinets I used in the basement kitchenette special walnut. They were original to the house when it was 1970's dark stained everything, so dark to start with, and I did not think I could sand enough to remove the stain in the grain. I see a bit of a door with white trim through the doorway of the older part of the house. If the trim in the newer part is white, you might be able to bring that into the kitchen - baseboards and window trim only. That would make it easier to stain the cabinets a tad darker if you wanted too - though it is a lot of work. If your doors are standard size, you could order unfinished oak doors and drawer fronts, finish those and then you would only need to strip the boxes. I would not even consider it except for the lovely darker woodwork in the older part of the home. I am not sure how darker cabinets would work with the lighter wood ceiling. I have both light and darker oak in my basement and it does not bother me, but your space could be different. A carpenter could manage similar and you can curtain a farm sink (short or tall apron) if you have to mess with cabinets moving the sink or pulling it out to fit the farm sink. This curtain is easily moved: This one is really sweet - been trying to figure out something in between for my own kitchen:)

The kitchen will be featured in HB magazine in the October issue; it's so hot in august in NYC , I won't be going!!

It seems like a big deal for one single kitchen, as beautiful as it may be.
Fun venue though, right by the Rockefeller center.

luk-I feel your pain, I am a 3rd generation native Miamian and I am NOTHING like a stereotypical Miami chick! That's jus what happens when the city you were born and raised in becomes more transient and grows with new people!

All that said...I love Flipping Out and I really think he hams it up for the show and everyone who is on the show is "in" on the joke.

I didn't like when he laughed about the client and her family getting sick and throwing up because of some issue with the construction (was it mold? Or bug spray? I don't remember.) That seemed like the meanest thing ever, especially since they showed the woman being sweet and not b!tchy or demanding.

Okay, now I'm going to have to start watcing FO. I'm really hooked on Bang for Your Buck. I love the reaction of the homeowners! lol.

Just saw a preview of the Kitchen...eh..not sure if I like it. Too modern for me, which equals cold.

I love Flipping Out and I love Jeff Lewis. I can't put water in the fridge without thinking of him. I turned labels one way long before I saw him require it. lol

dirtymartini, when he was laughing about the family getting sick, he had the giggles. We've all laughed at something after the fact that wasn't funny at the time.

I'm sure the kitchen he designed is fabulous. Everything he does it perfection.

Love Zoila. I need a new pet so I can use her name next.

Another Jeff Lewis fan here. So thrilled to see the new season coming up! Wondering what if anything is going on with his former partner and that nasty rupture that ended last season. I'll really miss Chloe if she doesn't appear anymore.

As for being mean, maybe but then again I guess I've got the same cold black heart and sense of humor so it just makes me laugh. I do suspect it's a LOT funnier to see on tv than to live or work with .
