I have recently been seeing the commercial about Dr. Scholl's footmapping technology. So I checked out the web site.

You just stand on a platform that tells what your problem is and recommends a kind of orthotic for you.

I don't know anything about this other than what they say. You can go to the web site and see if there is a location near you. I checked and there are 3 near me.

I'm going to check it out some time soon.

At Walmart here, the inserts are $40-$50 a set. I would hope they work..and I'm sure they are cheaper than a set of custom orthodics..

Hubby "was" fitted by the machine..but wasn't willing to pay the above price..but he's never had to buy orthodics either.

OK a couple of years ago my feet hurt so bad when I got off of work that I couldnt hardly walk. I thought I dont know how much longer I will be able to work. I had ordered those off of a infomercial that I think were called walkfit or something like that. We went to visit our daughter and her family in Michigan and my son-in-law told me even before we got there he was going to take me to meijers and have me try the machine. When I tried it it told me which ones I needed and they were the second to the bottom so that means mine were really bad. My husband tried it and his were second to the top and so were my daughters. When my SIL did it his were the same as mine. Well since I had ordered these off of the TV I said I will wait until I get home and see if they were any good and if not I will have them send me a pair of them. I got home and the other ones were already here. I tried them for a couple of days and they were so hard and they never made any difference in helping my feet. I sent them back and had my SIL get me a pair. I could not believe the difference it made I have absolutely no problems now with my feet. I am a cook and I spend a lot of time on my feet. They were a godsend for me. I would not hesitate to spend the money on them again but these show no sign of wear and I dont know if they will ever wear out. I would highly reccomend them to anyone who has foot problems. Now they have them here in North and South Dakota. They just got them here though.

We have Mille Fleurs. You should not need to trim his foot/leg feathers. They will break off with natural wear and tear on any feather-legged chickens other than caged show birds. The grass in the run is fine and the redness is normal as long as there is no swelling or injury. He may have hopped down from a perch and has a muscle strain. Just keep an eye on him. He should be fine.

Even though Auteck and Formicburn are saying things that are completely opposite, they both have some valid points. The picture could be showing that the tall fescue wasn't able to develop deep roots, so it is more drought stressed. It could also be showing that tall fescue doesn't deal well with dull mower blades. Tall fescue is particularly prone to tearing from dull mower blades. Tall fescue doesn't have the deepest root system of all cool season grasses (maybe it has the deepest root system of the cool season grasses used for lawns, but not the deepest of all cool season grasses). Tall fescue roots go down a maximum of 3 or 4 feet. Western wheatgrass roots go down more than 10 feet and so much of the root mass is deep that it doesn't even benefit much from water that only reaches the top foot of soil. If tall fescue is able to develop a deep root system, it uses somewhere between 10 and 30 percent less water than KBG. In my opinion, that's not a huge water savings in my opinion. K31 tall fescue probably has deeper roots than other tall fescues, but it's an unimproved pasture grass and (in my opinion) it doesn't look good in a lawn. If tall fescue can't develop deep roots, it can actually require more water than KBG. That coul dbe what we're seeing in the picture Auteck posted. Another thing to note is that KBG does better at snapping out of dormancy than tall fescue does. And if some of the grass dies, KBG does a better job of filling in the bare spots. Most tall fescue varieties are bunch grasses, although some newer varieties are weakly rhizomatous. I think KBG has a bad rap regarding water use. It can use more water than some of the alternatives, but unless you plan to go to extreme measures (as I have) and plant native grasses, if you water correctly, you won't see a lot of difference in water usage between KBG and tall fescue. I'm transitioning to a lawn of western and streambank wheatgrass, and will use about 1/4 the water that KBG uses. One point on which I know Auteck disagrees with me is mowing height. We've already agreed to disagree on that point. I think his lawn would be even more drought tolerant if he'd raise the mower deck. Taller grass is able to develop deeper roots. To get back to the original question, I'm pretty sure that Kentucky Bluegrass would do well in the state whose name it bears. There's a reason it's called that, after all.

If crocking it means putting pebbles or rocks in the bottom of the pot (under the mix) in the hopes of helping drainage, I've heard/read that the latest thinking on that is that it doesn't help, can actually impede drainage instead. Why baking soda? I've never heard of this & it's alkaline so may do damage to the plant. If an antifungal is what you want, either use a rooting hormone w/ fungicide (using it in this case only for the fungicide), or try brushing on some plain cinnamon on the cuts where the rotting sections were or the fungus is. Cinnamon is a natural anti-fungus, I learned of this from Orchid growers.

How many hours of sunlight does your garden get each day? Everything you listed requires at least 6 hours of strong sunlight each day to do well and more is better. The exceptions are lettuce and tomatos. Lettuce usually does OK in a somewhat shady area and tomatos will grow in part shade, they just don't yield as much and are slower to ripen. Other than sunlight I would wonder how often the plants were watered. There is nothing missing in the soil recipe in sq ft gardening assuming one is using homemade compost or commercial compost made from at least 5 ingredients. Some folks believe a little fertilizer for certain plants might help, but nothing should outright not grow or die in the mix. Can you provide any more details regarding your crops? When you say the beans simply died, what does that mean? How large were they before they died? How large were the cukes before they petered out? One other question would be what did the plant roots look like? It's a long shot, but is it possible some critter tunneled under and fed on the roots? Would like to help you out, but I don't feel I have a good grasp of what happened at this point.

I used to be able to buy the dr. scholls runners and loved them as they have gel in the heel area and so comfortable for me to wear plus the width for my wide foot it felt so good.

but I find when there is a good product, the people that work in the store grab them and so when on sale, its along way for me to drive to find nothing left.

When we were in Ca and DH was having foot problems, we found a "specialty" store called "Good Feet" where they could fit you with a ready made/made to measure insert for your shoes. Pricy, perhaps, but his feet have not bothered him since then, and he wears these inserts frequently, but not always. Also good (SAS) shoes. More than 6 years ago! Nanny

Sue...thank you for this information. I'm going to check into it. So far the insoles the Dr. gave me are working and I have been staying off my foot as much as I can.

I'm noticing a little improvement in the toe area so I am optimistic about this.

My husband went to the 'Good Feet' store when he first started having problems with his hip. What a difference. I'm thinking about it now that I've been having knee problems.
