mitchdesj's Can I see a pic of 60 inch round granite island

Hello Everyone,

I'm still hoping someone will post a 60" round granite island. Mitchdesj mentioned they had one in a previous home,can you please post a picture ? I haven't found any pics of 60" round granite island/ table tops??? Is there a reason that this would not be a good choice?? Thought round tables were a preference!!! We are considering counter height round granite. TIA

We sold the house in september so that's not my kitchen anymore !!
I loved cooking on the wide island.

What do you think of this one? I have cherry cabinets so it would match and it seems pretty simple. I'm toying with the idea of just getting the table and then getting chairs made by Carrington Court as suggested. Not sure which picture I posted before but this is the best one I could find. I island itself is 60X24. The granite top is slightly bowed on the back side to give us more room to sit there an is 60x 31. My island is not as big as others on here but fits my kitchen really well and is more than enough room for us. I put my trash pull out in the island as my island is directly across from my range and I do most of my prep there.

I would have your granite installed, and then if you think it looks odd you can always have your carpenter go back and add the decorative molding. the only thing I can think of is that the one in your inspiration photos has a bit more room below the overhang and where the doors start. The trim is lovely though. I had one side of my cooktop island extended by 12" so that I could accommodate a stool and I love the additional real estate next to my cooktop. I just had them round the edge, so it doesn't look like a straight plane, if that makes sense. I didn't have anything added underneath it and I don't mind it at all. I had also considered decorative trim or corbels, but decided to see how I liked the granite alone first.

I'm sorry about the ordeal you have been through! Your new home is gorgeous. As others have said, I hope that once you move your things into this home, it will begin to feel more like home. Have you considered staining the wood hood to the same toffee color as the cabinets? That would make your island more of the focal point and would be a relatively inexpensive fix I would hope. I would also get some really unique pendants that reflect your style to hang over the island. I think those two actions would really make the space pop until you've lived in the space for awhile and know what you want. Right now, the cream colored hood keeps standing out when I look at the kitchen photo. Best of luck as you and your family settle into your home!

We will probably do something like that, and use it as our table with 6 counter height stools. Were your cabinets underneath all curved and operable?? I'm thinking 36" round for base cabinetry with 12" overhang. Base would be simpler to build if I didn't require any storage area, still unsure if I need it to open. I didn't know circular cabinets were available, your picture looks circular.

Mitchdesj, can you tell me where you got that gorgeous wrought iron light fixture that hung over your island. I have been searching for something like that!

sewwhat, my base was all useable cabinetry, built like an octagon , not totally round.

my light fixture was purchased from www.sescolite.com in Toronto, Canada
in 2002

My new kitchen is grey and white cabinetry; it's hard to photograph though, I tried recently and it didn't show well, I'll give it another shot soon.

Mitchdesj, Thanks again, I told hubby I finally had a round island picture to show him with round cabinets, $$$ signs flashed in his eyes, and it wasn't going to be happening!! He will be happy to hear it's octagon, octagon happens to be the preliminary design he has drawn up on cardboard. We haven't priced any granite yet, will compare round versus rectangular island prices.

Wow, Mitch. What a sumptuously gorgeous home and phenomenal kitchen! How did you ever summon the will to leave it? Gee, if only in my lifetime. . . . Meanwhile, I gotta say-- these photos of your former home only make me all the more curious to see what your new kitchen looks like. I'm betting it will be a woo hoo too! :)
