If you don't like them then they need to come down, but I don't think they look all that bad. They are a bit dated maybe since most bedroom suites that are new don't have two mirrors, but I think they look nice.

If you do another mirror, I'd would do a dark brown wood frame that coordinated with the furniture.

Thanks, Carole for the kind remarks. Maybe I just see them as dated. The whole set is and I would love to replace it, but that's not in the cards (or I should say checkbook) at the moment. The set is almost 36 years old. I guess I figure if I take a mirrors down, I will update the look at bit.

You know, I don't think the mirrors are that bad!

Have you thought about painting the frames a different color, maybe a dark burgundy? You could stencil or hand paint a design in the insets at the top. Or use just one mirror set off to either side and balance it with small art, or plates. Or place it in the middle and add candle sconces on either side.

A simple fix -- just hang one of the original mirrors! And then add two tall buffet lamps to the dresser. One each side of the single mirror -- you could add pretty plates in the colors of the bedding.

OR -- if you do want a new mirror -- try a round one with a good thick frame -- to balance the visual weight of the dresser. A round one would work with the rounded tops of the headboard and the round top of the armoire.

Very nice set -- very Olde Worlde! Try creating a French Country look in the room -- and the furniture will blend right in!

Maybe one mirror would be a nice change - I am wondering though if I use the two buffet lamps, would that then be too many in the room - would be four. I have the antique floor lamp next to the chair and then the one on the bedside table. Thanks a bunch!!

I like the idea of a round thick frame mirror as well-- and I really like the idea of taking the room in a french country direction. It definitely depends on your/DH's taste but if it were my room, I'd replace the bedding with something less traditional. I would go with a toile or a cotton damask-- and I think both would work nicely with your wt and the ironwork piece on the wall. Of course, that is MY taste though. I guess my thought is if you lighten up the room and remove the sheen in your current bedding that it will lighten the weight of the furniture. You have already started that with the ironwork in the room.. and I think it has worked well for you.

One last idea-- are you a painter/artist? I'd consider painting an inset in the arches at the top of the mirrors. I picture a landscape/pastural in there-- not unlike the garden painting from horchow someone posted a few days ago. Of course it could be anything -- you may even be able to use a print attached to a board cut to size.

Never too many lamps in a room -- any room -- in my opionion!!! LOL! If you could see how many lamps live -- and move around THIS little house here -- you would be amazed!!

The headboard really looks great now. I made the draperies and the roman shades based on Les' suggestion to make them wider. I am including a "before" pic. I actually like this bedding better. I was on the hunt for a damask/matlesse/summertime bedding when I found the current bedding at Macy's for very little money so I just had to buy it.
I am still on the hunt for a light, summertime bedding.
I did the walls and draperies purposely very neutral to be able to change the bedding.
I also want to get a new TV table and a new TV. I do like change!
And no, I am not an artist - painter, yes, artist, no! I am always painting something around here, but have no artistic ability.

Years ago I inherited a similar set from my SIL - boy was that furniture heavy, well built and humungous. To be honest it was never DH's or my taste so we sold it when we moved.

I do agree that the double mirrors look dated. I would remove them completely but store them somewhere safely in case you decide to use them again. Since you have a master bathroom there really is no reason to have mirrors above the bureau unless you want one. OTOH, I do think the double mirrors are okay in your room if you want to keep them and find them functional.

I'm going to suggest something completely different for an update - hope you aren't upset. I'd cover the wood chest at the foot of the bed. At a minimum I'd have a piece of nice thick heavy foam cut to fit for a welted seat cushion. If you're more adventuresome, I'd sew a custom cover with a skirt to hide the wood chest and the cushion ontop. Doing this, I think, would make the room feel more luxurious, more spa-like. This could be another place to add some more cream with red accents to the room.

I love your new window treatments - they open up the windows and look great. I loved your old bedlinens but the new ones look more luxurious and more at home in a master bedroom.

Thanks, Sky --- no, I am not upset - forgot to mention that is on my radar screen as well. Typically, I try to do everything at once - always in a hurry and then am sometimes dissatisfied with my choices. I figured I did the painting and the draperies (thanks for the compliment), now the dresser, then the chest and TV.
I might get sidelined a bit as I now have a friend who wants me to make romans for her.
No, I don't need mirrors in there, do like the idea of a round one.
I am also going to resurrect the frame I am thinking about from the basement. That may be an option with buffet lamps on either side. I can picture that as a framework for a collage of some kind, but don't know of what.
Right now, I do like the round mirror idea the best.
I would probably never get a bedroom set like this one. It is so perfectly well made, heavy, heavy. I am thinking getting rid of the mirrors would be a start.

Instead of buffet lamps you could put a large vase, or some pretty pottery or something on one side and then a grouping of pictures on the other side with different size frames. One around 8x10 at least.
