Company Store and Cuddledown.

We've purchased quite a few down comforters from both of these stores and have been very satisfied with their products. I always select comforters with fully sewn baffles so that the feathers remain in place. You can also select size, style, fill power and type of feather.

In the last 20 years I've bought at least 12 down comforters from the Company Store - for our primary home, our vacation place, the kids bedrooms and as gifts. When we moved I bought all new bedding but this time went with Cuddledown because they offered the largest King - it was oversized so that it covered the sides of the mattresses.

Garnet Hill has really good quality bedding. I do not have a down comforter but do have their down alternative.

I also have two of their quilts that are really well made.

I have the cuddledown level 4 king. Pretty darn nice. No problem with feather shifting. I use a 100% cotton duvet cover and it keeps it clean with 2 dogs, a cat and 2 people (not usually at the same time lol) and once a year I take the comforter to the laundry to wash in the big machine. No issues.

Mine came from Company Store and I like it a lot. The down stays inside the baffles ( I think that’s the right word) and doesn’t shift. Very floofy. I can’t remember which style it was.

I have several down comforters from the Company Store. Some are over 20 years old and still fine. I wash at the end of the season with a down detergent at the local laundromat and always use a duvet cover. The company Store will repair, clean or even completely rebuild a comforter. I have several different weights for my weekend house as it can be quite cold there and the heaviest is really heavy. Also I had two cats for years who slept on the bed and they never hurt them in any way.

Beagles - I just checked Cuddledown's web site and you can order online. I ordered mine online 2 years ago during one of their sales. I think both stores offer quality down products and they have many options. I use a duvet cover on mine so that I can wash it more often and once a year have mine laundered.

DD1 is our family down expert. She prefers Pacific Coast.

This is the down comforter we, and our children use. They are all quite old by now and still quite fluffy.

It is on sale. I use a duvet cover as well, but had to machine wash the comforter itself a lot when my children were little and prone to making messes on my bed. I wash it in hot water with very little detergent, put in dryer with a tennis ball or wool dryer ball.

We have Cuddledown at our ski house and that is great too. I had Company Store growing up and liked those too. The baffles keep everything nice and properly distributed.

I have quite a few Company Store and Cuddledown comforters, I think the Cuddledown's are better, they just feel better to me, but it could also be bias since they are made in Maine.

Beagles I am wondering what you have been buying, where you have been buying that they have not been good?

Last summer I replaced our 20+ year old The Company Store down comforter - it survived all those years without shifting or escaping feathers. For many years it was inside a duvet cover, but for at least the last five years, it had no cover (my bed has top sheet, comforter then quilt on top). Even with one of my dogs jumping upon the bed, her nails never caused any rips or tears. I washed it multiple times a year In my own machine, and dried in my drier with a clean tennis ball. Only decided to replace last summer when feathers were starting to escape along one of the seams.

I decided to go with an oversize king this time around, so it comes way down the sides of the bed, so no more wrestling with dh when he pulls it more to his side of the bed. I like that it is offered in different weights. In fact, I did not have any recollection which weight my old one was and could not figure out which one I should choose. I called customer service and the rep was extremely helpful deciding which was right for us. This is the one I have in the King/California King size Oversized Down Comforter

I have no experience with the other companies recommended but have been very pleased with the quality of my Company Store comforter.

Yes - fully sewn baffles are key to prevent down shifting. I have one that shifts terribly and one that does not and that is the difference.

I also prefer Cuddledown. I use a duvet cover that I wash regularly and put the comforter outside when the temperature gets low to "clean" it. I cannot imagine going back to blankets!

I think you will be hard-pressed to find a quality down comforter for under $500, especially in a king size. Maybe if it is made in China.

Years ago I purchased from either LL bean or Eddie Bauer, maybe both. They used to carry premium down products, including comforters, and I needed two when we built our house here. I am still using them and they have performed well in our guest rooms. We are in the south so I bought the lightest weight available at the time. If the products state anything at all, buy European goose down, not Chinese goose down.

I later bought a light weight one from The Company Store and also have been happy with it. I seem to recall purchasing something from Pacific Coast, maybe pillows, I don’t recall, but wasn’t as thrilled with them. Maybe it was the cover which allowed a lot of down to escape in the wash.

I've just purchased the previous ones from local stores and probably have been underpaying, which may be why mine have performed poorly. I can raise the price point.

Now I am super torn between Cuddledown and Company Store since it seems both come with the highest number of good reviews here. I am leaning toward the Cuddledown because I do like an oversized comforter and it seems that those who have both prefer the Cuddledown.
