I don't understand mental illness...

I find some things very confusing.

Like the pilot the other day that wigged out on the Jet Blue plane. He was arrested, as I understand it. Now I can understand that the airline would suspend him from work. But he's obviously mentally ~~~ILL~~~ and had a "breakdown" & he gets arrested?? If he'd had a heart attack or a stroke, that would have jeopardized everyone's lives... I doubt if he'd been "arrested".

Then another, different aspect... people with the diagnosis of "Personality Disorder". I just looked this up in Wiki ... types such as... Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, Self-Defeating, etc. It seems to me that just about everyone has some of the traits of at least one & perhaps several of these "Personality Disorders". So, are we all mentally ill? Can we just pull that out to rationalize when something goes awry in our lives? I know that with, say, Depression, it's not as simple as saying "You need to just get over it." But the Personality Disorders.... I'm confused about them. I'm sure over the years that I encountered people who I didn't care for their personalities & basically avoided them to the degree possible. Maybe they actually had a "Disorder"? I'm finding it difficult to explain myself / my confusion in this....
