I can only say I feel your pain. I only buy men's tees for the reasons you state.

The stretch usually comes from lycra added to the cotton.

I had good luck with Fruit of the Loom low rise undies but now they've narrowed out the waistband and they don't fit as well. Tried the Hanes and while the rise is low the leg openings are HUGE. I could wrap the leg opening around my hips and I'm fluffy.

Don't get me started about the "modern" sizing either. I have coats from years back that are petite extra small and still fit me just fine. Lately I try on coats marked large that I can't even close.

I think they're using popsicle sticks instead of dress forms to design clothes these days.

And what's with the huge thighs on jeans? Classic cut my behind! Classic cut should be like old levis, not tapered at the ankle with jodhpur thighs.

I know what you mean moonie. Another thing is socks. I used to wear some I bought at Wal Mart called slouch or slouchy socks. They were actually crew socks that were a little looser at the cuff and they came in a lot of colors. I've been looking around lately at any store I go to and can't find them. I did buy some that have that " stretchy " stuff in them and I hate them. I wore some with my crocs recently and they slid down to the middle of my foot like thin little socks used to do when I was in the first grade 55 years ago. That was irritating as heck and terribly uncomfortable too.

wildchild - I'm with you on the popsicle sticks! But a question... if clothing has lycra, then it wouldn't be 100% cotton, right? I have 2 tees, 100% cotton, but they're stretchy.

Also, petite jeans... I'm 4'10 and I could buy petites and they'd be the perfect length. Not anymore!

For plain old t-shirts, you might check out AC Moore. They sell them for crafting, very cheap in all colors. I don't know if they're all cotton or cotton-poly, though.

Socks! Don't get me started. I wear a size 7 shoe, but the socks are way to big and the seams hurt my feet. I like trouser socks, but they are hard to find.

Linda I really miss those socks too. Remember back when socks were soft and made out of orlon? I detest cotton socks. I stick to the ones labeled coolmax since they don't have a high cotton content. I like the Gold Toe ones best.

I wish they'd make socks with a tougher toe area too. I am so tired of holes after just a few wearings. I can't stand to have my toenails even a bit long so it isn't that.

Linda - yet another example of something I've been looking for and can't find. What I'm wanting aren't the crew type, but those heavy duty housesocks that were so popular awhile back. I guess we'll both have to wait for the styles to come back around. :)

i'm so mad! walmart isn't carrying the "just my size" tees (in all those pretty colors) like they used to! i agree about the shape and quality! not as thick, either.

just my size does have a catalog, but sadly not the same low price they were in store. same goes for the undies...

Gayle - I wear a size 5 1/2 and the heels always bunch up at the back of the shoe.

BTW, has anyone tried those japanese socks that have one toe for your big toe? They may be called Kari's, or something similar. You can wear them with flip flops. Now, that would make my life perfect! LOL

Moonie, I have the same size foot. Trying to find socks that fit has become nearly impossible. So i have given up. For several years now i have only worn childrens socks. Atleast they fit!

And why can't I get those great sweat suits that I used to live in? Especially Hanes Her Way? The fabric was soft and came in many different colors. Shirts had cuffs and pants had elastic waist and cuffs. I have one on right now that is 12 1/2 years old. I can't find any with that fabric now.

Recently bought a 3 pack of Hanes underwear. They were all marked the same size, but one was about 2 sizes smaller. Socks never fit.

ninos - My feet are also wide, so the kids socks are just too tight. Occasionally, when DD was younger, I could wear some of hers that had been stretched out of shape. LOL

Sue - You're so right! It would be lovely to find cuffs, but heck... just elastic would be nice. LOL
Alot of sweats don't even have that in the legs and arms.

Check out the sporting good stores for socks along with some of the department stores. May be a litte more pricey, but better fit.
Also check where they are made. The quality of the cotton material are very poor India made.

The sock size i wear are 12-4. Some are too small but most fit. Im having an hard time finding the colored socks i need. There is not a huge selection in the childrens isle.

Tee shirts -- I found some nice ones at an Army/Navy Surplus store for a fair price. Is there one in your area?

I like cotton socks. The most comfortable and longest wearing ones for me are No-nonsense - much better than Hanes. I get them at Wal-mart.
