I now have McAfee but it's time to renew. Which is the best in your opinion?

I use Panda Cloud Antivirus. It's free.
There many free antivirus programs that work just fine.
No need to pay for one.

who the heck are all these new people and some of the things suggested here are not the ones you want please be careful we have had some trolls here lately trying to sell their junk. You can not run 2 antivirus programs at the same time if they are both running full time it will cause a conflict that is very well known and documented and will be told to you at any of the support forums you go to so you need to fully remove Norton since you now have AVG. go here and use app remove and the norton removal tool from the security garden link Antivirus Product Removal Tools Using AppRemover it is free spybot search and destroy was at one time very good but today there are some that are much preferred so I suggest replacing spybot and adaware with these free products, update them each time you use them and scan weekly with full scan. If the firewall is still running the computer will probably run slower. It's possible you now have 2 firewalls running. Not a good idea! Lets check and see. Do you have time to follow the instructions below: Click Here to download HJTInstall.exe Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop. Right click the Hijackthis Icon and Run as Adminstrator if you use Vista or Windows 7 By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log into your next post. DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System. it sounds like you have an infection that has blocked you from getting programs that would try to clean it, see if it lets you go to any of these online scans to run. ESET Online Scanner BitDefender Online Scanner try this link to get the direct exe of malwarebytes it should open directly on your pc as a download box for the mbam exe. save it to your pc download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. I'm not going to defend McAfee, Emma, it's not my favorite, but as a reply to your comment above, I'll say I don't agree with you because "You get what you pay for". While some (not all) of the free programs offer decent (and narrowly focused) anti-virus protection only, few offer the broad range of security and protection services that the non-free programs offer. Most non-free programs offer more robust security, to include internet surfing and identity protection, malware protection, cleanup and automatic performance monitoring (this can be indicative of unauthorized access), and an untold number of other capabilities. A license for any of the top drawer systems can be had for under $30 a year (buy a 3 person license and share the cost with with two friends), which is affordable for anyone. You don't need to agree with me, but you can use your own eyes to see that in this and many forums, the constant parade of users who are suffering infections typically use one of the free programs. I use one comprehensive (not free) system. I use no utilities, I trigger no scans, and I pay no attention to it because it quietly works in the background and eliminates problems. Everyone is free to choose their own course.

I had the free version of AVAST, but now have the paid. Very reasonable for 2 years. Have had this about 5 years.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. My step-son and grandson are both computer geeks, and they both recommended it. Their philosophy is that Microsoft created Windows, so who would know better about how to protect it? It's free, which is my favorite price!

I recommend MSE by microsoft very easy to use and install or AVAST free.
However you will need to fully remove McAfee prior to installing any other antivirus program on your pc this is essential. And it will require the use of either the McAfee removal tool or this free program.

I use the Comodo Free Version. Have used this for a long time. It unobtrusive,uses low resources and always is highly rated by the independent testing where the others usually have issues. And it's been effective. Standard inclusion when I set up a machine. I still use AVG on the XP unit. Never got around to changing it over to Comodo.

Never liked Avast or MS.

I started using Norton 4 years ago when McAfee began misbehaving in my computers. I'm very happy with Norton.

I use the free version of AVG and am very happy with it. I hated both Norton and McAfee. Norton is sneaky.....they hide files in your computer that you can't find if you want to delete it from your computer. It takes a trained tech to get rid of them all.
