Pioneer Woman and Me

This is what I did last Sunday evening - stand in line (and sit on the floor) for 3 hours to meet Ree Drummond. After a heads up from Jessica that she was coming. The L.A. stop was added since Ree was making her second appearance on the Bonnie Hunt show. I got multiple cookbooks - Thanksgiving hostess gift, etc. so the timing of the book signing could not have been better. I wasn't the only one with that in mind - most of the attendees had multiple books. Borders made out big time!

I didn't think to bring a camera, since I rushed down from a mini road trip DH and I were on that day. So this was the least blurry of the phone shots DH took.

Ree is just like one of us forum people - down to earth and real. She spent time chatting with each visitor and asking us questions. A real trouper. Standing in line wasn't bad - everyone was so nice and excited to meet Ree. It was like a sleepover of a hundred friends!

But I'm glad you got to go, Gina! I've been curious if she's as "real" in person and it appears on the blog. Good to know! I like her even better now! Congrats! And thanks for letting us visit vicariously!

Oh yeah, someone here got me turned onto her blog and now I'm addicted too. I'm so excited our city is going to be on the book tour! But will it be weird to go and meet someone you feel you know so well but not really? I'll get over it and go anyway. Every time we're driving thru rural part of the state, passing lone ranch houses I think of her.

IF there is room to the right of the sink for at least a small cabinet between sink and dw (then comes the f ridge and then the end wall. the f ridge in there is bigger than mine is so maybe there'll be room) then I'll raise it - again IF it isn't too expensive to move the plumbing. it's plumbed to the left of the sink now. it'll be worth some expense to me tho to raise it up so i'll weigh that expense. I won't get back in there to remeasure for several wks. There'll be wks of cleaning it, painting, putting in flooring, etc. It'll probably take me all summer to get moved in and settled. I won't attempt any changes in the k itchen til next winter. I do want to live with it before finalizing plans. i'll need the time to recoup from premove cleaning and the move, unpacking etc. I am so looking forward to having a dw again after all of these yrs w/o one! I'm going with l aminate counter top - probably butterum. I want to get large samples of a few of Formica's new 'granite' look ones, but every time i then look at my butterum sample I feel a peace about it. one of those new ones would have to be super duper to over ride butterum I think. if you're set on your countertop, s ave looking at her site til you aren't pressured. i love her site and looked thru them even knowing I wouldn't get any of them. I did know and posted here because there are so many undecided yet or using more than one material. I did find it interesting to read her review of them after having used them for a yr or so. Besides, they are both awesome k itchens! One can look at her rooms and maybe get an idea for something else to put in the k itchen. I loved the sliding barn doors also. She sure is blessed to be able to have and do all that she does. must have lots of energy also - lol! she seems like a real down to earth sweetie! more so blessed to have such a good relationship with MM and other family.

DH wanted to go furniture shopping and it really meant a lot to him. I was already to go with my GW t-shirt and 'Hi CF!' sign.

Gina, I've seen her blog a couple of times and it's pretty entertaining, so I assumed she'd be a "real" person. Plus she has horses, how could it be bad?

I made her shrimp pasta Friday and I've made her apple cake before (minus the cinnamon) and it was amazing. Love the book and was really sorry I couldn't make it to the signing.

How fun! I looked a few weeks ago to see where her book signing stops were and I think the one closest to me was about 6 hours away, guess I won't get to go.

What a nice gift, one of her signed cookbooks!

Hey Gina, that's terrific that you got to go and meet her. I always figured that she was probably 65 or 70 years old and made the whole story about herself and her cowboy husband up. I still kind of doubt if that's a true story, just something to sell.

Yup - she likes them high heels. She looked good - the stupid blurry picture doesn't do her justice (or me either, nyuk, nyuk!)

Beverly, I doubt she made all that stuff up. You know true life is really more interesting than the movies! Besides, it's just a simple story - but it's her telling it that makes it interesting. She said she is publishing "High Heels and Tractor Wheels" so you KNOW there will probably be a movie. Bring it on. Better that than more frat-humor and vampire films. (Not that I have anything against frat-humor or vampire movies!)
