It was aired during SuperBowl.

It takes time to film, edit, and produce a commercial. There is no way a commercial of this magnitude would have been tossed together in a day or two and air time purchased to air immediately after 9/11.

Superbowl commercials are only shown once traditionally and most of them are considered artful and award winning.

Of course they wanted to make money off of it. Corporations are clever.

Am I the only one that wonders why someone (not mentioning names!*S*)that appears to have so much knowledge about anything and everything, from apples to zebras, is hanging out with all of us? LMBO

I've never seen the ad before but I found it very moving. If it was shown only during the Superbowl then Budweiser had several months after 9/11 to plan, film and edit the ad. The Superbowl for that football season was played on February 2, 2002. It could even have been composed from stock footage until the scene when the Brooklyn Bridge appears.

As to whether Budweiser made money from the ad- well, I don't have any inside information as to their intent.

It's a wonderful commercial, a lovely tribute and I think it was classy of Anheuser-Busch to only air it once on TV. Sometimes, less IS more.

I've never seen it, but right after 9/11 happened (which I watched in horror and disbelief as the second plane hit the 2nd tower), we were getting ready to go get our DD so my life didn't involve watching too much tv! :)

As far as a "motive" of Budweiser, with the country in so much pain at that time, I find it incredulous that greed should even be suggested. Not everyone has an ulterior motive....

Budweiser is the exclusive beverage sponsor of the Superbowl and has run one time commercials every year during Superbowl since 1976.

If they did not want to make money off of their commercials they should have just quietly donated the money that was sent to the advertising agency to create it, and the network for the air time, and the game sponsorship fund, to a patriotic fund, and not done any commercial at all that year. There had been talk in 2002 of not even having a Superbowl game due to the mood of the populace and the extra security issues involved with such a large gathering of people at that time. I'm sure their original idea for one of their notorious wacky Superbowl commercials was scrapped. Budweiser is known for showing offbeat and tasteless commercials during Superbowl. (Check out their famed 'Upside Down Clown' commercial 2004) They had to make themselves look good that year. I can't believe anyone thought that Budweiser put together a commercial with the intent "not to make money" from it. They wanted to get their brand name out there and you can see how well it worked since people are still talking about that Budweiser beer commercial and sending around and around in emails still to this day.

For those who immediately corrected statement of the timing of the video I apologize. I wanted to get the video out there so we all could enjoy it. I wanted to make a brief explanation about it so that you all would know what it was about.

It's kind of unfortunate that the only statement some posters can do is negative, correcting others etc. And no comment whatsoever on the actual video itself.

Regardless of that, the vast majority appreciated the thought, caring, and the tremendous moving memory of the incident that Budweiser did, no matter the exact timing.

Jasdip, a lot of us don't feel the need to be so right all the time that we would risk embarrassing you by correcting such a small detail. I'm sure it takes many months to put together a commercial like that and I still think it was a very classy and emotional commercial. I also think that Anheuser-Busch ran several different commercials during that Super Bowl, too. This one, however, was designed more as a touching tribute as opposed to touting the product.
