Is this site really slow or is it my computer? i just got high speed and this site isn't any faster.

It isn't the site it's the internet. It closed down on me for a few minutes. A notice come up that they had detected a problem and had to shut down.

I am noticing all the complaints about pop-up ads. That is one thing I am not bothered with...just a few on certain sites. I wonder if it has to do with the ISP. I am using SBC/Yahoo. I love their mail site....very little spam and I mark all I do get so I don't get them again. I have Windows XP-Professional, maybe there is a built-in blocker with that. Just thought I would mention this as a possible solution. I do use Foxfire a lot, but also still use Internet Explorer too. Gld

No, its been fine for me. But maybe some change was made to the website -- the admins perhaps upgraded some little thing that was to be "transparent" to users, and it affects certain people with certain configurations of hardware and software. This happened to us at work this week -- I'm a paralegal for a tax and estate attorney, and make extensive use of the IRS website. They are upgrading their online EIN application page, and it no longer works on certain computers in our offices, but it works fine still on others. I emailed them, and their tech support people sent me a reply back saying they are aware of issues with people using certain browsers (Chrome and Firefox) and suggested trying IE instead - still didn't work, but at least now I know why its not working.

Ah, Dave, I think we are talking about different kinds of things here. I would have done exactly what you have done with your Omorica pendula. Yes! But this Mission blue thing is quite a different kind of tree, I think. I see them often in local nurseries, and they are growing exactly like the species Colorado Blue spruce--strong, vigorous upright growers with strong leaders. My assumption here is that this Mission blue spruce in question will grow exactly like a seedling (species) blue spruce--I will bet its origin is from a seedling, and although it is grafted as a cultivar, it will grow just like a seedling spruce, My understanding here is that the one that we are talking about has long since established a leader and that impulse to grow and replace this leader is very, very strong. If you have a regular seedling blue spruce there is little or nothing one can do to defeat this strong impulse to grow from a single, occasionally double, leader. I have had some of my spruces lose their leaders to weevils several years in a row and each time by the end of the season in which the leader was lost, a new one was growing. You just can't keep these things down! In this case, leave the thing alone. With many other kinds of cultivars, especially "pendula" varieties, they are much more likely to need some help. If they are young grafts, many, if not most, must be staked for a period of time. And if you saw my previous post on the subject, sometimes they need to be staked for a frustratingly long period of time. And if once a leader is finally established and then lost, I would guess some more staking will be in order. In this case, if I understand the description by the original poster here, the leader was not realy even completely lost--just snipped off somewhere above the point that the year's growth started. It will re-grow even "easier than pie." --Spruce P.S. Forgive me if I an going overboard here trying to avoid a misunderatanding. You are one of the most knowlegeable conifer people in this forum. I wish I knew half as much as you do.

I know, that would solve soo many problems Barbara including keeping that creeping grass out. For aesthetic and laziness purposes I think the flat bed works better there though. Dax, I found some pictures of "Malonyana Aurea" and do very much like it. My usual source ForestFarm doesn't appear to have it. Do you have a recommended source? I'm working with a small area of the yard down near the street. My idea is an area 20 feet long and 10 wide looks right with the profile of the yard, sorta creates a border reference, and is easily mowed around. I hate having to back up or turn around riding the mower.

You may be finding the site slow because of the advertising onslaught that comes along with every page. This page alone, a list of responses, has less advertising than forum messages pages. Still it had to download the following:

That takes some bandwidth, even with DSL or cable. Block the advertising up front and the site will load dramatically faster. The best way to do this if your using a Windows system computer is to edit your hosts file. Here's how:

The Windows operating system provides a system-level method to block specific IP addresses before they even get to the browser. To effect this solution you need to edit a Windows system file called hosts. This file is located in the directory:

Windows XP: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 2K: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 98: C:\WINDOWS

Open the file in Notepad. Cut the following from this post and paste it to the end of the file.

127.0.0.1 amch.questionmarket.com
127.0.0.1 a820.g.akamai.net
127.0.0.1 iv.doubleclick.net
127.0.0.1 i.ivillage.com
127.0.0.1 m.2mdn.net
127.0.0.1 tste.ivillage.com

Edit each entry if necessary so that there is a tab between the IP address 127.0.0.1 and the URLs. Save the file and you're finished. Close and re-open your browser. All the ads will be gone and the site will load quickly.

When grandaughter tried to do this for me it said "This folder contains files that keep your system working properly.You should not modify it's contents."

Are you looking in your "Hosts" file? If you open the hosts file with Note pad, it tells you the rest of the steps. Look for "Hosts" using your search my computer for files.
Hope I'm not confusing you.
