I think the shower curtain and paint look good together also. I think the cabinet would look better a differnt color. Either paint maybe black or stain a darker. I get all nervous about staining or stripping because I don't really know what I'm doing. I can't imagine it's real hard though and that's not a large area. It doesn't look like you have hardware on the cabinets? Knobs would look pretty good also.

Thank you as well sheesharee. That's how I feel too, about the cabinet. I've considered black, white, or stained darker, but don't know the first thing about doing it and am kind of fearful of doing this, since I've never done anything to a cabinet before. It doesn't have hardware yet. DH can add it, if I knew what I wanted.

The shower curtain and paint look good together. From what I can see of your cabinet, I think it is fine as is, though I like the idea of adding hardware to the cabinet. I'd suggest something in stainless steel (possibly brushed nickel)--unless you want to replace your faucet, curtain rod, and towel hardware as well. In a smaller space it would be best to have the metals match.

Another idea since you are painting anyway is to replace the mirror with a decorative one.

Thanks valinsv. I'd forgotten about the mirror part...we plan to change that as well, only I don't know what color frame or shape to go with? Any ideas?

As for the hardware on the cabinet, we will be keeping the faucet, etc, so the hardware will be coordinated. Probably a knob, would be better, yes?

Why don't you frame the mirror with a wood frame to match the cabinet?
I also think the curtain and wall color are great and go well with the cabinet. You could darken it, perhaps espresso color? and of course the knobs.
But to me you have most of it already- the colors are good!

I think your shower curtain is very pretty. The walls are a bit to matchy for me. I think they would be pretty in a slightly deeper blue. I am sure on the color chart you could find a blue in the same family but slightly deeper. I am an earth tones person- so I love the deep reds, blues, greens, etc. You may even be happier with the cabinets if you go with a deeper wall color. I also think knobs would be great on the cabinets.

Thanks cooper. I am thinking I'd like the wood to be darker. It's the same cabinetry in the master bath and the kitchen cabs as well, and I don't really like it, or perhaps I'm just tired of seeing the same thing from room to room! I'm just afraid of messing it up if I choose to paint it. Would paint or stain be better? I do want the new mirror to coordinate with the cabinet. Do you think it's easier to find a mirror, then paint/stain the cab?

Gracie-IRL, the walls are not as close the the shower curtains. They are definitely darker. I think it was the flash.

Painting bathroom cabs is pretty easy since there is really not much to paint. First remove the doors and hardware. Clean surfaces well and prime with any good primer. Kilz is one brand. Use the foam rollers. It makes a smooth finish. I can see your cabs painted a nice white with nickel knobs. Something about blue and silver I guess! BM Cloud White is a nice white. No yellow undertones. I get a beachy feel with your paint and shower curtain. It looks clean and peaceful.

The side of the cabinet is my only concern. It's not real wood. It's that cheap cardboard-esc "look like wood" but is very thin and is very smooth. Is that paintable too? It certainly wouldn't be stainable I don't think.

Do you think that white cabinets are ok with white counters? They won't clash or look funny?

I agree that I'd paint the cabinet and BM Cloud White is a great white! Not too stark, but remains crisp & fresh.
I know BM Chantilly Lace is also a popular choice for painting cabinets or trim. (another white)

I could see the mirror with a silver/stainless trim...or if you're handy, just buy some moulding and trim the existing mirror. Paint trim either same Cloud white or even black.

Post the final pics, but definitely think you're on the right track!!

I love the paint color. My first thought was to paint the cabinet white, because I'm always such a matchy matchy person, but I really like sheesharee's idea of black or a darker stain. I think it would balance out the lighter colors.

I also think it's too matchy. A brighter blue or green would be pretty and not dreary at all.

kellyeng-Thank you for that. I had tried SW Hinting Blue on the wall (but painted over it with this color BM Feather Gray). I also tried a more sagey color, but didn't like it. Here's another picture with the cabinet more up close. Would you be able to make it white or black possibly with your talent?

I really like what you have chosen so far. It is not difficult to pain the cabs....you got some instructions above. SW proclassic waterbourne paint is very good for cabs - get their primer (I forgot the name, sorry). Latex is so much easier to work with. For the side.....if you have someone that can cut a beadboard panel for you....that works great for the sides & also adds some interest to the cabinet. Just nail it on & paint. Then you could add some trim to the exsisting mirror painted the same color.

Instant update that doesn't cost alot!

My vote is for the white cabinets. Kelleng - the Photoshop magic really makes it easier to visualize. I also like the greater contrast of the darker blue.

Oh wow! Thanks Kelleng! I like them both! I think you just made this more difficult for me now! ;) I guess I need to figure out which look does what and which one I will like more long term??

Scooby, I like the beadboard idea as well. DH can do that, no problem. And I can probably convince him to do a frame for the mirror as well. Now I just need to pick a color for the cabinet. I definitely don't want to keep it the color it is now, after seeing the mockups. Thanks again!

If I do paint the cabinet (white or black), what do I do about the 1/4 panel trim around the baseboard? Right now, it's the same natural color as the cabinet. Do I paint it white maybe to just blend in with the white baseboard?
