Okay, with the photo of John Travolta in Jodi's link I can see the resemblance very clearly.

I think he's so cute....don't care for the dreads at all...but he's very good looking to me. He was very cute as a little boy too...beautiful eyes!

I never could understand the dreadlocks....they don't look clean to me...and hard to clean if they are. The matted look just doesn't do it for me !

I love Jason, and his dreadlocks, he maintains them and they look nice.

Part of me says he cute and another part says he's not. Not quite sure on this one. I do not love his singing, that I know for sure. I think he needs to go soon.

Sorry, but I just don't care for Jason at all - either looks-wise or voice-wise. I do like John Travolta....and Michael Johns, but don't see a resemblance to JT at all. JMHO

The first time I saw him I saw the resemblance. Sure, he's not a dead ringer, but there are definitely similar features. The difference is that John Travolta's features are more masculine (please forgive me if that's not the right word), and Jason's are more delicate. He has really disappointed me with his song choices and lack of stage presence, but I think there's a good singer inside him somewhere. I'm not crazy about the dreads either, but I think his face is beautiful.

Thanks for this post, I too couldn't put my finger on who Jason reminded me of. I agree he does resemble a young John Travolta around the eyes, although John has a more squared jawline,. Michael Johns is another cutie. Tell me, does anyone else think he resembles Tim Daly who starred in 'Wings' and now stars in 'Private Practice' or is it just me?

Now that resemblance I can see - M. Johns definitely resembles T. Daly. Never thought of that before, maybe because I never see Tim Daly.

I read somewhere that if Bob Dylan and Joan Baez had ever had a son, he might have looked like Jason Castro, and I do agree.

His rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah was a carbon-copy of the late Jeff Buckley's, which is the best one to imitate, but is hardly original.

(Reminded me of when Katherine McPhee sang Over The Rainbow exactly as the late Eva Cassidy had sung it. Most American viewers were unfamiliar with Eva Cassidy and assumed that McPhee's stylization was original.)

Jason's dreadlocks look fine to me, but in the baby pictures they showed of Jason he had straight hair. Doesn't one's hair need to be very curly to grow proper dreds?

I do think he is a good singer and hope he builds a nice career.

I think one's hair just isn't washed (with soap and water)for a long time to grow dreads? lol Someone I worked with had them and used to use a powdered shampoo to maintain.

I also think Jason is "pretty". I see the Travolta connection now. Jason has very nice eyes. I'm not sure if I love his voice-it's okay. I like David Cook's songs much better!

Petaloid - you mentioned Eva Cassidy and her rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Is anyone else here familiar with her? She has (had) the most gorgeous voice - how sad that she died so young. I just love her music.

No particular hair texture is needed. There are irons for beginning the curl, and then most people use their fingers to re-curl or to keep the hair curled. They normally don't wash their hair for the first 2-4 weeks but might use a powder or cream shampoo that doesn't need water.

They might look bad, unkempt, or nappy to some people, but most who wear dreadlocks keep their hair clean. I only knew one lady who didn't. I knew that because she always wanted to hug me. Because her hair was very full and she was shorter than I am, I had to learn how to hug her to keep the dreads out of my face. Never had a problem with anyone else though.

Brenda, every time I hear Eva Cassidy sing, (I listen to her every day), it breaks my heart to know she left this world so young. What a gift she was.

Funny, to me Jason looks like 2 people, none of which y'all know... 1) my next door neighbor's oldest son, they have very similar facial expressions and mannerisms, and 2) a CA graphic designer on another forum I frequent... his dreads and Jason's are exactly alike. But no, I don't think Jason looks anything like Barbarino ;-)

I do agree with the Johns/Daly comparison, though.

Someone mentioned weeks ago that Jason resembled Minnie Driver. But I see the resemblance to young John Travolta.

I gave both my sister and ex-boyfriend dreads once. It's pretty easy to do yourself, although if you never brushed your hair, it would naturally happen (it would look alot more messy). All you do is seperate the hair into small sections and take a very fine-tooth metal comb, and start basically "ratting" the hair in each section toward the scalp. If you quickly comb all the hair toward the scalp, it starts matting at the head and turns into a dreadlock. If you do it this way, they usually look a little puffy at first and then start tightening up on their own. You can keep them nicer looking with small amounts of hair wax for "fly-aways".

They are not that difficult to keep clean, you can just shampoo them like normal or soak them. They take quite awhile to dry if they are thick though.

If you get sick of them, the only way to get rid of them is cut them off. My sis had hair past her butt when I gave her the dreads, and ended up shaving her head almost down to nothing when she got tired of them.

Lauren said the same thing about Jason looking like John Travolta "only with a bigger nose". I didn't see it before that but now I do.

I think he very much resembles John Travolta. But, does he have a demple in his chin like John?

That is just beautiful Scott. I believe I could listen to her sing that song every single day and never tire of listening. I made a slide show of my grandson's first year and used that as one of the songs. It always brings tears to my eyes when I hear it.

For those not familiar with Eva - I should have mentioned that there is a link on the "About This Video" option on the montage web page for the ABC NightLine program devoted to Eva.

Another interesting note is that a movie about Eva is currently in pre-production by Amy Redford (Sundance Film Festival nominee and daughter of Robert Redford).

I trust that we will hear more arrangements by Eva on AI - because of her skill at exposing the emotional core of a ballad - something AI contestants will always be able to make use of.

My family and I are looking forward to hearing more from Jason.

Oh, a huge thank you to everyone who posted about Eva Cassidy. I'd never heard of her until yesterday. Then I spent about 4 hours looking and listening to her. What a gifted young woman she was. So sad to know she died so young. I'll be looking for a CD by her.
