yeschef - CBS Sunday Morning is my favorite TV show, bar none. It's been "must see" watching in our family for years. In fact we still refer to it as "Kuralt", as in, make sure your friends know not to call during "Kuralt."

I learn something new from watching it every week. And even when they profile a celebrity, or deal with a subject, I'm not crazy about, I usually come away seeing that person or story through a different lens and with more appreciation.

Funny story..my granddaughter happened to be born on a Sunday last March. My daughter wrote the show requesting a tape of it as a keepsake. She wrote that it was probably the first time no one in our family had seen the show since it began airing.

I always love their "Eat, Drink & Be Merry" show. Can't believe it's already that time again! Great of you to think to post.

That's funny, it's kind of a family tradition with us too. There just aren't variety shows of this caliber on TV. I actually get cranky if I miss it, and I'm not a big TV person!

Cat hurt his leg and now not eating/drinking

Thank you. I will try the steamy shower thing tonight. I didnt think he was better yesterday. He didnt want to eat or drink. I did get him to eat a little by syringe feeding him. Luckily he started out weighing over 15 pounds so he wasnt a skinny minny to begin with. This morning I woke up and there was a fresh pee spot in the litter box and the cat was back laying down on his blanket. So that was a good sign! My husband brought him to the vet today and she was pleased with how he looked. She was able to massage his foot/joint and commented how 2 days ago he wouldnt even let her touch it. She didnt insist on doing full blood work, but she mentioned it and my husband figured we are in this almost $1,000 already so we might as well. He tested negative for feline leukemia and for something else too, but he didnt remember what. So pretty much we arent sure whats wrong with his paw. She thinks he could just have gotten an infection there, and then the URI flared up because he was stressed out. He's anemic she said, but i guess that doesnt mean the same thing for cats as it does for humans. Overall his bloodwork was good. She thinks he will get better and once he can smell again he should eat. I forgot to mention that he did drink from the regular water bowl this morning too! I am happy he seems to be doing better but I will be happier when he starts eating on his own.

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope 2008 is a better year for you, Daisy. I am glad you will be able to have Christmas lunch with your son as I know you miss him terribly. Has he fully recovered from his accident? We had Christmas Eve dinner with DH's family last night- a real event as everyone was there except DD's BF (who works on a mine site two weeks on, two weeks off. He gets back to town on the 27th). DH's youngest brother and his parner have been living in Prague (she's a Czech and we love her to bits) but have moved back to Perth, so DH's mum had all her chicks together for Christmas. We watched an amateur documentary about MIL's birth village in Scotland (a tiny fishing village), and one of the old gents who was reminiscing at length was MIL's older cousin. It was amazing how alike they are, and every time he smiled or laughed I could see my MIL's smile :-) His Scots accent was very thick but I understood more than DH (he's not good at accents). It was quite interesting. DD came home with us and woke up here on Christmas morning. Her BF had got her the bike she wanted and had asked DH to smuggle it up here so she could have it on Christmas morning (I told her he's a keeper :-) ). The look on her face was priceless. I cooked a turkey for the three of us (loooove turkey :-)) even though it's over 100F outside, thank Whoever for airconditioning. Ate ourselves to a standstill then had naps as we were up late last night and DH had to work a short shift on 4 hours' sleep this morning. Got some good news- my StepDad's dog went missing Saturday and he was feeling quite crushed as she has been his main companion dince Mom died five years ago. It seems she may have followed some house hunters into the yard of an empty house and got shut in as they closed the gate behind them, not realising she was there. A neighbour noticed her there on Sunday and when she was still there Monday evening took some water over to investigate. She had a drink then took off for home- he followed to make sure she got to where she was going OK. SD was very relieved, as she is on medication and as temps here have been 100F+ she could easily have died. Our little Christmas miracle. Sally- I live near Perth and would be willing to give your brother a hand settling in, if he needs it and I am available (we're away until the beginning of February). You can email me at ace at westnet dot net dot au for any info!

Thank-you Jessy! A most wonderful Christmas going here. I have in my lap "lee-lee" a fat tabby that loves to snuggle. Her owner is moving and can't take her much loved kitty so Lee-lee moved in with me this week. Lee-lee is a snuggle kitty that loves to crawl right up in my arms and lay her head on my chest. Horrible money problems most of the week. Bank threw me a curve by taking several weeks to approve a line of credit. I'm investing in a local business and we had to have our cash this week. We just made it saving four jobs and at least one home from the jaws of the recession. A group of us in on it so we are having a party next week to celebrate... beer and doughballs! Sis fed me spagetti for breakfast... finest chrismas dining a person could want. Topped it off with some merlot that tasted like cheap brandy and jalapeno chedder cheese from the local Amish farm. If I could do it over I wouldn't change a thing... it added up to perfection. Just me and the animals tonight. I got the kerosene lamps lit so the house has that soft gentle glow. A big chunk of strip steak that is going in the oven with some garlic for a slow roast... done about midnight. A run to Grandma's house tomorrow. Happy Holidays to everyone! : ) lyra

As rural folks sometimes reply, when wondering about the veracity of a story ... of just to be funny ... ... "no shite!?" (drop the "e" if you want to read the original ... before the censors got around to it). To mixed farmers ... that's not a "four letter word" ... just part of the furniture of everyday life. If one wants to "put on the dog" a bit ... ... one can say, "manure". o j

Never heard of this show, but it sounds like something I would like to see. What time does it come on?

Goodness, I've been watching it since it came on in 1978 or so. Try to never miss it, and now with DVR, I don't. It's my regular Sunday morning activity. On the east coast it's on at 9AM, it's an hour and a half. There's music, and a "homily", and announcements, and a few other things, and a wonderful benediction at the end. Better than church.

Interesting, momj47. Your description made me do a double take, but spiritually you are right on. This show keeps me in touch with the world I want to be a part of and believe is still out there. Definitely feeds my soul for arts and culture.

Bev, it is on at 8:00 am here at Mountain Central Time. YC

Okay, I think that means it's on at 10:00 in my Central Time Zone so I will be in church and have to DVR which is great since I DVR everything you might say.

Wow - I may have to TIVO this... I have never heard of this show and honestly didn't know there was anything on TV on Sunday mornings except SportsCenter. I sort of presumed it was all infomercials or something......

It's on at 8AM in the central time zone in Texas, I have to remember to set her DVR when I'm down visiting my DD, so I don't miss it. I think it's on at 9AM on the West Coast.

I agree! Love this show. This Sunday will be Bobby Flay and the history of Mac & Cheese.

The only problem... that new FN show 'Alex's Day Off' comes on at 9:30 and it's just too good to miss. And of course, I'm back in the dark ages again.. once they did away with vcr and moved to more techy stuff, my brain said no no no more stuff to learn! Will have to switch back and forth.

I really enjoyed it, even DH watched.

momj47 - I had to chuckle, thinking of your post, when I saw one of the profiles on today's show was actually a priest!

My favorite part of the show was the feature on "Eating for One" with the woman who helped Julia Child market her first cookbook. DH sometimes travels for work and I make a point to make homecooked meals, even though I'm dining alone. Some friends wonder why I bother, and she explained better than I could how soul satisfying, as well as nourishing, it is.

Back to the church analogy...We've always made it a practice to not speak during the nature scenes at the end. My kids sometimes rolled their eyes at this during their teenage years, but I find it touching and amusing that they now follow suit in their own households.

With each segment, I thought this is my favorite, no this is my favorite.

Until the nature scene at the end, which I always loved, I had forgotten that I use to watch most Sundays years ago. This nature scene was timely as just yesterday I was researching cranberry bogs for an activity on a Leaf Peeping trip.

I know it's a good show when DH sits down and joins me. It was fun thinking of a larger GW group enjoying the show "together". I think I have to go hunt down some sliders for lunch! Christine

I loved the cranberry bog. I wonder what its like to be a cranberry farmer.
And since I'm single and have trouble cooking for one I'm definately looking for that book.
And Alton Brown - so nice to see him featured.
