What Was The Flavor of Your........?

What was the flavor of your wedding cake or what kind? Ours was a little angel food cake his Mother made. It was iced in white icing with blue, green, yellow and pink dots of frosting all over it. What was yours like?

Which one :)

#1 was then, standard multi-tiered pound cake
#2 was an almond flavored sponge cake .

I have both Zard and Orangered. Its like apples and oranges, they are both fantastic in their own unique way. Zard is sweeter and more sour; Orangered is more delicate. Right now my Moniqui are starting to ripen, they are another fantastic white 'cot. Its my favorite white because it sets a lot of fruit; Zard just likes to put on wood for me. The new Sugar Pearls ended up being a disappointment, I was hoping they would be the ultimate white 'cot but no flavor. Full report when all have ripened... Fruitnut, I wish I could grow those muscat grapes, too much work in my climate. I added three of the new U Ark. varieties this spring and am hoping one of them works out. I agree on Strawberry Verte, my favorite fig is Battaglia Green which is a very similar tasting fig. This may be the last year for Flavor King, it seems to have some problem every year. The Flavor Supreme I keep but this year I have only ONE fruit on it!! Tupi blackberry sounds interesting. Since it was marketed as huge in size I got suspicious, huge fruit often means huge and nothing else good about it. My new favorite is Newberry, its a real WOW and is a full tier up from any other blackberry taste in my mind - a unique flavor that tastes like a mix of many kinds of highly flavorful berries all in one. This is from a limited tasting but its enough for me to decide to add a whole lot more of them. Scott

Most flavor-packed, powerfully, intensely flavored mandarin/tangerine?

I am in florida gulf coast pinellas zone 10, looking for mandarin or tangerine trees for my yard. I want the absolute most potent, strongly flavored type of mandarins/tangerines that exist. Im NOT looking for mild or weak flavored mandarins. For example, valencia orange is weak and mild, I want the opposite of that. Im looking for the for the varieties of mandarin that burst with so much flavor and aroma, it will fill your whole house up with the smell of tangy, pungent, orangy citrus. There are so many varieties to choose from, and I cant taste them all myself, so its almost overwhelming to try to decide on a specific cultivar. I have heard good things about Kishu, gold nugget, ponkan, and owari satsuma. What about lee, page, dancy, murcott, and all the others I cant think of because there are so many... I just want the mandarins that are the most fully concentrated with flavor. And doesnt necessarilly have to be the sweetest, but sweet is always good. Im not worried about ease of peeling or number of seeds, just strictly flavor strength. (I already have meiwa kumquat, and it is pretty potent and zesty, I love it) Thanks for your advice.

In Ohio my favorite brand was Herr's in the red bag. (rippled) (possibly because they were fresher where I shopped?) Lays was blah. Ruffles was good but usually too salty. Here in Florida, my favorite brand surprisingly is Lays. (they're fresher here?) Herr's are pretty much impossible to find. (at least the natural potato flavored ones) Ruffles are still okay, but still a bit too salty and not always as fresh, and not worth paying extra for. Great Value can be as good or better if fresh, albeit a bit inconsistent, but so are Lays. Mission corn chips, I think they have/had a white corn one that I really liked that was good with salsa that I couldn't find last times I looked. Frito's scoops are good though. I'm getting tempted to order these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FRKEYNM Definitely not something I'd normally do but times don't seem quite normal right now. YouI know things are not quite normal when a major victory, almost a reason for celebration, is finally being able to order a four pack of Hurst's 15 bean mix and having the order actually go through without getting a "Some of your items are no longer available" message while trying to checkout. :-)

What's your favorite non-traditional ice cream flavor?

Here is my recipe for French vanilla ice cream: 1 cup whole milk 3/4 cup sugar 2 cups heavy cream, divided 1 vanilla bean split lengthwise, about 6” long 4 egg yolks plus 1 whole egg 1 tsp vanilla extract (can substitute a liqueur) Combine the milk, sugar, and one-half cup of the cream in a medium saucepan. Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean into the pan and drop in the vanilla pod. Heat over medium-high, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is warmed through. Remove the pan from the heat, cover, and let the mixture steep for 30 minutes. Pour one cup of cream into a bowl and set a fine mesh sieve over the top. In a separate medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks and egg with 1/2 cup cream until smooth. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the bowl with the egg yolks, whisking constantly. Return the entire mixture to the saucepan and place over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly and scraping the bottom of the pan, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon (about 170˚-175˚ F–77°-80° C). Pour the custard through the mesh strainer into the bowl with the cream, removing the vanilla bean. Stir in the vanilla. Let cool slightly, then cover top surface with plastic wrap and refrigerate until completely chilled. Freeze in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you want a different flavor, omit the vanilla bean and vanilla extract. I always add a liqueur to my ice cream to make it easier to scoop, generally one or two Tablespoons, depending on how soft I want it. I use Cointreau in strawberry ice cream, but if I am making vanilla, I add Frangelico or Amaretto. If I am making chocolate, I may add chocolate liqueur, Kahlua, coffee liqueur (mine is from New Orleans), or any nut liqueur. In addition to Frangelico and Amaretto, I also have Noce, walnut, pecan, and Cassis liqueurs. I would never add vodka to ice cream, although it would make the ice cream softer. I generally add the liqueur to the freezer when it is about half way through freezing. *Note: I never add salt to any ice cream that I make, not even a pinch. If using a bitter chocolate, I might add a pinch, but usually I do not, and I prefer it without.

My SIL made it...her mother made wedding cakes...and she makes wedding cakes...I lucked out...It was just a white cake with white icing and green flowers the color of my bridesmaid and the groomsmen tux's all over it...

Vanilla with white frosting, many red sugar roses all around the three tiers and one real Gardenia blossom in the side, center of the cake.

White with white and lemon filling - made by a woman who made wedding cakes out of her home. It was delicious and beautiful. I still have the top of it in my freezer - 32 years later.

Our wedding cake was New York Cheesecake with chocolate mousse on top. There were three tiers, separated by clear plastic pillars; and we also had three additional "side" layers. No plastic wedding couple on top -- just lots of fresh (and edible, had anyone wanted to eat them) flowers. Folks still rave about that wedding cake. And it was really, really good!

We just had a white cake with buttercream icing. I wanted yellow roses and daisies on it. Afterwards, I threw the flowers- which I thought were plastic (I don't know why I thought that)- in hot soapy water and couldn't believe it when those wafer-type flowers melted. I have no idea what I thought I was going to do with them anyway.

37 years ago, wedding cakes (at least in our area) were standard yellow cake with white frosting. Nothing unusual.

We were at a wedding last fall, where the cake was a wonderful fondant-covered pumpkin spice cake--It was so good, I've been craving it ever since. Now THAT was a wedding cake to remember.

Hmmm it was three tiers, yellow cake and chocolat khalua (sp?) cake with butter cream frosting. It had pale yellow and lavendar iced flowers with some ribbon swags and the topper was a little boy and a little girl bride and groom. I don't remember what was between the layers. It was a yummy cake.

There was no question of flavors when we got married 47 years ago. All wedding cakes--at least where I lived-- were fruit cakes. Mine was made by my grandmother and decorated by my cousin who was a baker.

I don't remember the flavor of the cake but the icing was a scrumptious cream cheese. The lady who made it told us not to freeze the top because it would not hold up until our 1st anniversary. We ate it when we got back from our honeymoon. Ten years later, Eric and I STILL want more of that icing but the caterer is long gone (back in GA).

I had to go find our wedding album to see what it looked like. I did remember that it had apricot filling, and that it came from a wonderful bakery on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. (The general manager of our club was a little put out about that.)

It was all white with white flower decoration and lily of the valley on the top layer. The bottom layer was large; second was also large; third layer was to be saved for our first anniversary. However, the neighbor who froze the top for us suffered a power outage. DH never did get a taste of that cake! (He will still complain if the subject comes up.)

Our wedding cake was a Napolean (pre-cut).
However, we had the reception at my parent's house, and we didn't realize
until it was almost time to cut the cake, that we didn't have a cake topper.
My sister remembered that she had fake mice dressed up in wedding garb,so she put that on top of the cake!

I didn't have one, but my girlfriends gave me a shower after I got married and a special cake just for me and my husband, besides the cake for the shower. It was white with white icing, and I think blue writing on it.

Ours was white cake, white frosting. Three pastel colored bells made up the topper. Four layers and it was very good. Made by a local lady that baked at home.
Now I bake for extra money and I love doing wedding cakes!

Ours was chocolate cake with rapsberry mousse filling and a raspberry buttercream icing. It was decorated with fresh flowers as our wedding topper.

My SIL made ours, she did it as a side into the night after her 4 little girls went to bed! It was very beautiful and very meaningful. It was white cake.
