Happy T-day to all our American friends

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you from your friends North of the border. Enjoy your family, friends, and of course the food knowing we are so blessed to live in the two countries we live in.

I'm jealous of your turkey dinners, I missed mine this year and worse yet missed those wonderful leftovers. Oh well Christmas is just 5 weeks away! YIKES!!!!

Thanks Sharon. It's funny (to me) to consider an actually border between us when we feel the camaraderie in cooking and your friendship.

Well... it seems you went from a not so great Christmas with poor weather that hampered your family plans and your greenhouse, to a very nice New Year's Eve with more family stopping in to visit! Things always seem to have a way of working out... and it was a good year... I'll agree with that! Welcome to 2009! I did manage to stay awake well past midnight... Larry and I watched a couple of movies together... and before I knew, it was almost 2:00am! My first surprise of the New Year is Star of Holland... which opened, and doesn't look like Star of Holland! It's way too white with not enough red to be the right variety, but I like this one... whatever it is! I'll try to get a few new photos posted for an identification. In the meantime, I hope everyone can begin the New Year with a smile! So far, the day is dawning with bright sunshine... a good sign if ever there was one!

What a lovely message...thanks Bill for your thoughts. I consider myself still a relative newcomer to GW and a novice, but have made many 'virtual friends'. Thanks to GW and it's forums I have learnt a lot. Yes, as you say, it's a US festival, not one we celebrate back here in chilly/foggy/wet/damp ole Blighty...but I too wish you all...'ALL THE VERY BEST'. Cheers! Gill.

Hello all... thanks for all the kind words. I am still trying to struggle through the day. Somedays I am ok, but others not that great. It was her birthday on October 20th. She would have been 64 or "39" as she would have said. We went to the park and fed the ducks... she always liked to do that. I also brought daisys and popped the tops off and placed them in the water. I miss the way that I would call her and she would be willing to go with me on what ever adventure I wanted to go on that day. She was always there for me. I know I am lucky to have a person like that and that it was my Mom, but it hurts no less. I am trying to build a new "normal". It is rough though because everything I do reminds me of her. I started to move around furniture in our house and I was thinking that everything I touched we bought together. She was a great decorator and I have no decorating sense at all. I just wonder when the feeling that I am completly lost and alone will go away. The holidays are coming and I hate it. I think we are going to plan a vacation at Christmas so I don't have to think about it. I don't know about Thanksgiving. Mom used to make the best mashed potatoes. This is so freaking hard. I think I am going to check into counseling again. It is so hard because I put on a strong face when I am out, but crumble when I get to my car or at home. I talk to my husband, but I don't think he really understands. What do you all do for the holidays?? Any ideas on how to get through them?

Thanks for the good wishes David....it really was a great Thanksgiving! Ann , nice to see you and Moe have made freinds in your new community. Sharing with others is what the holiday is all about! We had a great T-Day here at the cottage. Just 8 of us but food for 20! LOL The weather was perfect, low 70's and a ton of sun. We were even able to have a "party boat" lunch cruise Saturday. I BBQ'd Brats and Burgers on the boat served along with potato salad and slaw. Sunday's dinner was "same old , same Old " turkey and all the trimmings which seemed fine with everyone! Today we had the reason for the whole damn meal....turkey and stuffing sandwiches served with this year newly opened dills!!! Life is good!

Woohoo!!! All that yummy cooking and baking going on.

I love our TG in October, for sure, but seeing all this talk of turkey, stuffing and fixings, makes me hungry for another feast!

Thanks Sharon. It's hard for me to even think of Canada as being a separate country. Guess I've lived too close to the border all my life. As far as I'm concerned you are all just neighbors.

About 20 years ago we would have Christmas in July.

There wasn't much snow around then.
