I would do a soft blue/gray. Like F&B French Gray. I think Quiet Moments is too spa blue for your tile. You need a true blue/gray. I also think a nice warm color would brighten up the room and contrast with the blue tiles.

I love blue and yellow/gold together. Not bright yellow, but a soft gold like BM Pittsfield Buff for SW Believable Buff.

The white cabinets will really brighten up your space.

I'd like to make one teeny little suggestion
Visible hinges on cabinets really bug me, they take the focus away from the knobs and pulls and make the kitchen look 'busy'.
Replace them with white hinges that will disappear into the white paint - the knobs and pulls will then be highlighted.

As for your paint dilemma, since it seems you want blue, I'd find a color strip closest to the color of your tile and paint the walls in one of the lighter colors on the strip.
A light, creamy yellow would be nice too, imo.

My kitchen has no natural light and I used yellow to liven it up,and I get many compliments.

Thanks for the quick replies. I met with the kitchen center designer this morning and officially put the project on longterm hold. Actually I don't feel too badly about waiting. I started seriously working on it in January and frankly, another year or two to plan and ponder gives me the sense I can relax, take my time making choices and not feel pressured to make decisions. Plus of course keeping that wad of cash in the bank just in case. I can even keep saving for some of the pricier options that I can't do now anyway. So, all's well etc.

As for my itty bitty budget makeover, I hadn't thought about yellow but that might be a better option than blue. I painted my daughter's room BM Lightening Bolt yellow last year and we lucked out; the color is a gorgeous happy sunshine yellow without being too glaring. Very cheerful. OTOH her room is a southeast oriented corner space with lots of natural light coming in. Still, I do still have some of the paint. Maybe I'll do a test strip on the wall and see how that looks.

The flooring is a medium oak. I bought it this morning-got almost 200 SF for $214.00. Bargain remodel indeed! My son keeps shaking his head, he's been installing hardwood flooring for me over the past couple of years and really sees the difference. But it looks okay and for a short term fix it will definitely work. Does yellow generally look okay w/oak tones?

Usually whatever color is on the wall will reflect onto white objects in the room. I would be a little concerned that yellow walls will 'yellow' your cabinetry even after the effort of repainting it white.

I love the color of your tiles! What about an oatmeal color on your cabinets and use a blue on the wall? I also love blue and gold together as well as blue/grey with white.

My kitchen is Monroe Bisque with white cabinets and a black & white checkerboard floor.

The cabinets do not look yellow at all.

Of course, now that you have put your project on hold, I guess you don't really need my opinion. LOL

Homemaker-the project I put on hold was the complete gut/remodel...I definitely welcome your opinions and anyone else who cares to comment :). I had considered doing black/white checkerboard floors in the space using vinyl tile, but ended up deciding to stick with the wood look.

I floated the idea of yellow walls and NOBODY else in the house liked that, so it might be a no-go.

I am going to try a quart of BM Horizon in my back hallway and see how it works, then go from there. My son did get make a good start yesterday, pulling up the heinous (or hyen-ous as he pronounces it) vinyl from the back hallway and getting most of the floor covered with a click-lock laminate. It already looks better! Here is the hallway before shot:

On the right side I"m going to put up some IKEA Billy bookcases w/doors for a temporary pantry.

Runninginplace - I have a couple samples of some BM gray blue paints at home. I thought I had pics of them on this computer but I don't. I'll take some tonight and post them for you to see.

I think Timberwolf is a dark gray blue. Covington Gray is a true gray (which probably isn't what you're looking for) and feather gray is a light blue gray.

Out of all the BM samples I looked at when I was looking for a blue gray..Pigeon Gray is the one I probably would've went with had I stuck with that color scheme.

Sheesharee, thanks so much! I did try BM Lily White, which was one up on the strip from Wedgewood Gray-the color I love from the forum. On the strip it looked like a nice light blue, one up on the strip from Wedgewood Gray. But when I painted a wall it just looks white to me.

So I"m still stuck on the color-maybe the feather gray? I'm afraid if I go with the blue the room is going to look too monochromatic. But I don't generally like cream/tan shades. Maybe I could find a pale yellow and try to sneak that past my family :).

Today I'm going to head over to the paint store again and check out the feather gray and perhaps some of the yellows.

We, meaning my son, did get the oak look laminate floor installed yesterday. It came out a lot nicer than I had hoped; in fact my husband Mr. Picky came home, looked at it and asked why I hadn't just put that in the whole house instead of hardwood! Will put some pictures up when things get settled but it already is a huge improvement over the nasty blue vinyl we had in there.

Just a thought, if you are going through w/total gut in 1yr =/- I would think twice about painting the cabs - given the oil base & the prep involved to get latex on -it seems like a lot of labor for the return - Plus if you are anything like me - If you spruce up the kitchen too much, your remodel may be on hold for much longer! If you do the cabs, I would rec giving them a good cleaning, little sand - and a fresh coat of oil based paint which will be much easier than the latex route -
