Euonymous alata still being sold and recommended?
Comments (14)duluthinbloom....I think I am seeing the point you are trying to make, but I am seeing it from a different perspective. I know that until I really paid attention, I did not realize I was contributing to the problem. I was not having a struggle with seedlings from my Euonymous and it had not occurred to me that birds could be bringing the seeds a lot farther away than my backyard and creating a problem in someone else's backyard and into wild areas. So I have concluded that sometimes my 'own experience' is insulated and doesn't tell the whole story, if I were not up to date on what is happening with these invasives. Yes, I did respond to the person who posted that they were considering using Euonymous because they did not have any designation of what part of the country they were from. bboy made the point I was trying to make. [thanks :-)] If the shrub is still being grown and sold even in areas that it is a problem, then it is the consumer that has to take responsibility to know what are problem shrubs and avoid them and find something else to love that isn't a problem. I was trying to be supportive of people's efforts to do that by offering a thread that could highlight the shrubs that are a good alternative. Ego...are those photos of woods near your house? Wow, what a shame! Someone here had some Itea 'Henry's Garnet', some Fothergilla 'Mt Airy', which are gorgeous this time of year, any photos? Thanks :-)...See MoreNeighbor's Fence Being used as Retaining Wall
Comments (3)Hmmm, this is definitely a problem. I would call your city building permitting office and ask them about it. Depending on your local regs, it's possible she needed a permit for the pool, and if she didn't have one, they'll take a serious interest. If she did, either they didn't inspect it or she did improper work after it was closed out. There is some chance that they can order her to fix it, but I wouldn't count on it. Still it's the first place to start. They can tell you what your options are. After that, you may end up having to take her to court. You would have to show that there was damage to your property or cost to you, in order to win any kind of settlement or force her to fix it. Of course, you could go out and remove anything that slumps over onto your side. :-]...See MoreCanned Food past use by date
Comments (14)Dates on food items are usually "best by" dates, not "use by" dates. Just because it's a day past, doesn't make it bad. Two years, though? As has been mentioned, if the cans aren't bulging, dented, rusty, etc., there is an overwhelming chance that it's still perfectly safe to eat. Is it worth eating? Now that's a different matter altogether, as quality begins to decline and gets worse the longer the food is kept. Canned condensed soup will probably last forever, it has so many chemicals in it I can't imagine it would spoil. However, since it's not great when it's "fresh", I can't imagine it'll get any better. Condensed milk turns brown when it gets too old and it's ugly. Rotation IS key to food storage, even on a small scale. When Dad died 4 years ago I found a jar of homecanned mincemeat on the pantry shelf dated 1984! It was probably still safe to eat but I can't imagine what the quality of THAT was. My mother also had some homemade jam that was at least 20 years old. It was sweet and brown, not any definable flavor or odor, and the Orioles loved it. So, if it's a few cans and you don't use the stuff regularly, I'd toss it. Annie...See MoreDo you still have dates with your SO?
Comments (11)Our kids are grown and gone, too, and we are home alone together all day, every day. I love every minute of it. We talk all day long. We still have dates, though. I love to cook for just us, and we often light candles and have wine. Heck, six years ago we even went through cancer together, he with colon, me with kidney, at the same time! That was overdoing it, of course, but we did it! I love this life! It has been 43 years and six kids for us....See Moreronbre
