Do you still have dates with your SO?

My husband is off on Th/Fri and I am off on Thursdays, our schedules are totally conflicting, so on Thursdays we either make the rounds to Costco and other places for shopping then have a nice dinner somewhere (I rarely cook). During the summer the best dates are watching the baseball game, he grills burgers and I make the sides and then we sit out by the pool watching the stars. Our neighborhood has almost no streetlights so we see some amazing shooting stars.

Do you still make time for each other to keep the love alive?

Yes! We both have busy schedules, but we always make sure we have "our" time together. We don't do anything special, most times it's very low key, but we make sure whatever it is, there are no distractions from work such as cell phones or computers. It's much easier now that our kids are grown and out of the house.

Yes we do...

Sometimes he'll call me and ask me "out"...lol...I think that's funny...but cute.

45 years haven't changed anything...except maybe it's even better.

Neither of us is perfect by any means ...he's a grump sometimes and I'm sure I irritate him too... But we try not to stay angry. Time is too short to waste fighting.

We were here alone tonight so we went out for dinner.

My mother was a fabulous cook but really had rather limited recipes. She did the little of this and little of that and cook it till it looks right and turned out great. (heavy sigh) Yeah, I can do some of that but some of the stuff I wish she wrote down. But I have some of her recipes. Copied her recipe box that my sister now has. I think it's important to continue that and write down and share what you have in the way of recipes. I tried to do a family cookbook years and years ago. Get all the aunts, cousins & other relations to send their favorite recipes and I was going to put them together into a cookbook. Some of my relatives are, well were great cooks too and many had their "specialty" recipes. One made great dinner rolls, one was famous for baked beans, etc. But that idea went over rather like the Hindenburg. Lots of sneers. Still regret the loss but that's their and their families' losses too. I enjoy looking though the small town cookbook put-togethers. Of course there's always 20 versions of Green Bean Gasserole but there's usually a few variations of something and something original in there too. Yeah, this time of year I tend to miss my mother.

We moved into a neighborhood of 1960s-70s colonials. One of the many things I liked about our house was the black slate foyer floor. A new friend came by and mentioned that "that slate is really easy to remove" and she had just put new large-format tile in her foyer instead. 12 years later and I still prefer my black slate. The other thing I wouldn't and won't change is the kitchen curtains. The kitchen faces the street and includes a breakfast nook, so we need some curtains, but I don't want to block the view altogether. The house came with cafe curtains, as well as an upper tier of curtains (not a valance) for the larger breakfast nook windows. They are somewhat sheer, maybe translucent is the word, which I like: it's like looking through lightly-frosted glass so I can see if someone is walking by the house without really being able to see who they are. The little ruffle probably dates them the most, but given that they are otherwise plain it's cute. What I'd really like is a toile pattern, but I just can't find a fabric that is translucent, without being "shiny".

When I renovated our kitchen in 2003, I had no idea about trends or function or gardenweb! That said, after 13 years, I did like my old kitchen (pale yellow inset cabinets, quartz counters), but I didn't like the lack of drawers and hated the ss fridge that dominated my space (even though it was only 32" wide). When I redid the kitchen last year I went with white cabinets, integrated fridge and soapstone counters. I do like the looks of this kitchen, but I don't think I am as excited about the looks of this one as I was when I was in 2003 but this one was built with specific objectives in mind.... brighter, more streamlined and better function. The fact that I've looked at tons of pictures on Houzz probably factors into my feelings of wow (or lack thereof) when looking at my kitchen.

The kids are grown and on their own, closest is 2 hours away,
other two live in different states, so we're alone and we spend
most of our time together anyway, so we don't need special dates.

Our kids are grown and gone, too, and we are home alone together all day, every day. I love every minute of it. We talk all day long.

We still have dates, though. I love to cook for just us, and we often light candles and have wine. Heck, six years ago we even went through cancer together, he with colon, me with kidney, at the same time! That was overdoing it, of course, but we did it! I love this life!

It has been 43 years and six kids for us.

We're pretty independent...but always know that each is there and never far away.

Being together 24/7 seems to agree with us...yes!!

She went independent 40 years ago ...

... we didn't talk much for 35 years ...

... and she died seven years ago, at 66.

Not exactly dates. My sweetie of 52 years spends a lot of time in the garage working with Donna. Often he will call me on the intercom from the garage and say "Donna would like to take you out for dinner this evening". What Donna wants, Donna gets.

Mine has been hacking a dry cough since Wednesday. He is on his second day of nonstop sports. He can be glad I haven't killed him. What was the question again?

All the time! We go out to dinner, antiquing, rummage sales, camping, 4-wheeling (ATV), theater, high school and college sporting events, picnicing, everything! We are each others best friends, and we spent most of our 'free' time together. But maybe we shouldn't count. We've only been married 3 1/2 years so are still practically newlyweds :-)

Thursday night is our date night too. We both work and we've been married 25 years with 2 boys at home. Each week we rotate who picks what we do that week. I last chose the $1 movie theatre. We also try to pick a restaurant that we have never been to before. It really helps us to stay connected in this fast paced world we live in.
