For Those Who Like Dr. Phil

DD got us ticket to go to the March 19th taping. I don't know when it will air, but I'll give you an update when I know. Also, the Craig Ferguson (sp) show we'll be going to too. She's still seeing what other shows she can get us into. I'd like to get into the Ellen show. She's funny and I like her. The audience gets things sometimes too.

We leave for California on the 18th.

I hate flying. If it was a straight shot from Omaha to LA it would be a lot better. But no, we have a change over in Dallas/Ft. Worth. :( Both going and coming. The only good thing is we can arrive and depart in Burbank, and not have to go LAX.

I know someone on here is a flight attendant. Our flight is with AA. Any chance you'll be there?

Leslie, how much time do you have at DFW either coming or going? It would be neat to meet a former swap partner.

I didn't see the show yesterday, but I saw a pic of the girl. I studied anorexia a little in college and it is truly much more then getting them to eat. The mind set is hard to understand, it's a psychological problem. Getting help wouldn't be a relief for most of them-they want to be "left alone with their disease" even if it means dying. Logically, they know that can happen, but not enough to start "wanting" to eat. I wish they wouldn't announce the weight in numbers. I know it's used to see how drastic/tragic the situation is, but I GUARANTEE someone is watching out there and sees it as a challenge and/or motivation. But I do think it's important to show what can happen when people starve themselves to possibly help younger girls who want to lose those 10 lbs by any means necessary!

I had to be gone when it was on today, taped it, and just now finished watching. Bizarre is a good description. There was a case against the head guy where I used to work. He was so arrogant and cocky about how the case would never be proven...he was innocent, etc. During hearings, he kept saying things like "I'm innocent, give me a lie detector test and I'll prove it". Well lawyers on the other side had had enough of him so finally said 'yes, and if you pass conclusively, my client will drop the case'. Oh, you should have seen him. At first he was all nervous, then he calmed greatly, and agreed. He honestly thought he could con the lie detector AND the administrator of the test. He failed so miserably, it wasn't one bit funny. But to this day, if anyone would question him, he'd say it was rigged so he'd fail. Shirley

Wow! This is exactly what my wife's ex-husband has been doing to our SD for many years. Every item on the list! The latest chapter was convincing our daughter to move in with him (at SD's age of 17) right in the middle of her Junior year of HS (move from VA to FL), to get all of the "adult priviliges", no rules, and all of the big ticket toys as promised while living in the "country club" home. Good grief! This man is single, never remarried, lonely, and getting his daughter to move in with him was his totally insane priority and he would go to any length to get this. This man has convinced our daughter to estrange herself from her mother and me. I would really like to find out what is the period of time required for these children of divorce to recover and sort it all out. Do they ever really recover? How long does it take and at what age do they come around and grow out of all the hurt and confusion. Is emotional health ever really achieved? If anyone has articles on this recovery process and statistics, we would love to learn about this. My wife (biomom) really only hit one possible area on the list; no communication with the ex. Her ex for many years was always threatening her, blaming her, running her down, bullying her, and so I eventually accepted the fact they they would not talk. It takes two mature and stable adults to communicate. Very unfortunate for our daughter. Thanks for posting this list. For us, it is 100% accurate. I just hope that my SD studies this list when she is a mature adult. Her crazy biofather won't look quite so cool then! It will be a very long wait though.

I hope you get to be on all of the shows you mentioned. Just let us know when you'll be 'on air'.... Oh, and give us that don't know you a picture online so we'll know who you are if they show you in the audience.

Wow.......That's cool!
When you go to the Dr Phil show, dress warm. It is freezing in there. My cousin Pams daughter was a producer on the show and she said they keep the studio very very cold because of all the lights on the stage.
When my friend went to a taping she was so miserable because she just didn't think it would be that cold.

Jenni, I've been to Dr. Phil once before, and I remember how dang cold it was in there. We'll be taking or wearing jackets. Mine will probably be black with a hot pink shell under it.
Karen, going out we have an hour layover, and coming back it's 1 1/2 hrs. Not really long enough for meeting up, do you think? If you think it's possible, we'll try.

I'd feel a lot more at ease flying if she was on my flight. Dang it. But my DGD and my DD's mother in law are flying to London the Wednesday after Easter. Maybe Donna will be on their flight. Wouldn't that be a hoot. I think they usually fly British Airways though. Not positive on that.

Ditto to Stacy's message. I have a feeling you could pull out a few dance moves and capture Ellen's attention. She is funny when she calls out random audience members on their dancing. I hope you get tickets.

An hour and a half in Dallas is sometimes "just enough" to make your connection. :-)

I know Rita, but we don't have to change airlines, so we should be okay. Maybe a different gate, but not terminals.

I'm jealous! I've always wanted to be in the audience for a TV show. I don't even care who it is! But Ellen would be fun! I hope Dr Phil has an interesting topic that day.

I don't mind flying, but the connections are annoying since they waste so much time!!

Leslie--I too am a Frightened Flyer and I have discovered Prince Vallium, as my friend calls it. I'm not much of a drinker and also feel that I need all my senses to fly that plane, should anything happen to the pilots; I think you have to have the fear that I do to understand that nonsense and the irrationality of that kind of fear. When we went to visit family in India ten years ago I never slept for the entire (10+11) 21-hour trip. That was before my Vallium Discovery. The pill does not make me goofy or happy or feel drunk, it just takes the edge off my anxiety. I take one, and that does the trick, for the most part. But I would say it's best to have something in your stomach as it can make you sleepy if you don't. I also find it helpful to sit as close to the flight attendants as I can so I can watch their faces. I feel much better when they're just chatting with each other or reading their books on the take-off. Get this: I had a return trip scheduled this week on Southwest during the time after the announcement of the lapse of maintenance and the time that they took the planes out of the air. I would have to say that the Vallium made it possible for me to get on and fly. I do what works for me! I hope you have a lovely time on your trip.

sjerin, I do have Lorezapam, which is like Ativan. It's the only way I can calm down enough to walk on that plane.
But I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.
