I can not start a post on any GW forum and I can not click on any of the options on the top of the main pages of any forum I have some strange code characters up there at the top of the page which is apparently what is causing my problem. Tamara has been emailing with me to try to figure out what is happening. I have the problem using linux and firefox, windows 7 and firefox, but my Android tablet and phone do not show it and are fine.
So it may all be related somehow so definitely use the contact us button and let them know if you are having issues and tell what windows and what browser and what version of it you are using.

Yes I am too. I wait a bit and put my cursor on a different spot on the screen and then that comes up and i hit end script and it opens up for me. I thought it was only me

Yes, I get the same error message everytime when I click on a message that I want to read. I am using Internet Explorer. It just started several days ago.

In case anyone is wondering what the strange characters I see look like this is exactly what I see at the top of the main page on all GW forums directly below the little search box.

Yes, I have those symbols but they are not affecting performance. Saw them yesterday as well, and the symbols were right beside the forum name. Today they are appearing right over top the Post a Message link.

I'm using Firefox and have not yet installed the update. Wonder if that's why it's not causing me problems.

I'm getting it too and it's a pain in the bum!...it only started today so has anyone got any suggestions please?. I normally ask my daughter to sort these things out for me but I wont see her till the end of April!

Weird.. I'm using IE8 and everything is just fine.

That long running script is one of their damned popups that is being blocked by your pop up blocker..but it won't let anything else happen till its done running....

I have been a regular contributor to GW's plumbing forum for over 8 yrs..but if they don't soon get a grip on these damn popups I am out of GW for good

I just got the "long-running script" message, too. When I clicked on "stop", it immediately brought up this thread. Hope this isn't going to be an every day thing, but at least, I know how to stop it--I think and hope!

I went to IE to see if I get it there. Nope, everything is normal.

For those who are getting it, does it go away if you reboot?

Yes!! Don't know what it's about. No it doesn't go away on reboot. I just click on "stop using script" and it opens the thread.

I use IE and it has been happening the past two days at least. I did everything the repair tools advise, but everything was as it was supposed to be. Has anyone contacted iVillage?

I am also getting the messaage and have IE. It must be on Gardenweb's end if so many of us are getting it.

I am using IE 8. I got the message for the first time this morning. But yesterday the KT froze up and I couldn't close IE, I had to go into task manager and close it that way.

Getting it too; using IE 9 on Windows 7. It happens when I click the 'Next 30 Messages' option.

Interestingly, I do not get it with IE 8 on XP.

I don't have any strange symbols yet. I am running Win 7 and most of the time, IE 9. Right now I am using Firefox, because I've had problems with IE no matter where I'm at on the web, for about 2 months. I haven't tried starting a post the last few days so I don't know if I can do that. In fact, with IE I can't do much of anything right now.

I have been getting the same message on IE. I just noticed something in the address bar that appears to have solved the problem. Open the KT site. See the third symbol in the address bar that is at the right end of the address bar. It is light blue and looks like a torn sheet of paper. Put your curser on it and read. Now click on it . It turns darker blue. Now open a post in the KT. Clicking on it seems to have eliminated that message and the post opens up as it should.

The problem was fixed by the team at GW. The strange characters are all gone also.

IF anyone still sees those strange characters or has the script problem please use that contact us button at the bottom to let them know.

Nothing has changed here. Still the script message. Never saw any strange characters. Windows 7, IE 9

Try clearing the cache and cookies on your browser, shut down the browser and check it again it could be using the cached page

So nice of you to try to help, ravencajun. Okay, I've emptied the cache, cookies, browsing history, and signed back in -- for the umpteenth time. Same script problem. The only trouble is on Garden Web, though. And, even here, no such problem on the Smaller House forum. Scratching head.

I've contacted them and guess I'll just wait it out. We'll see if others still have problems by morning. Hey, thanks for trying to help. Just glad it's not web-wide!

it worked for me to GAZANIA TY TY very very much. Even though I could't figure out what the address bar was. I am really behind times. It is beside the arrow circle and the X. The clue it looks like a torn sheet of paper was a very good one. Ty again.

bengardening, I am sure that someone could explain it better than me. I am not very savy when it comes to computereeze, but am glad that some have understood what I was trying to say.

You can also go to Tools, Compatibility View Settings in IE to correct the problem. Add gardenweb.com to the list.

None of the above worked for me, but the IVillage tech sent a download fix. If anyone is still having problems, send them a message.

When I logged on this morning I got the long script message again so did what Gazania suggested and haven't had a problem since. Thank you so much. I wasn't posting because it was such a pain!

A long script may be an infection or a nasty tracking code. It could also be some 'wild code' that got away from Garden Web.

What to do: Exit Garden Web. Bring up your control window of your virus scanner and check for updates. If updates are available, download and install. Exit the internet and have your anti-virus software scan your system. And then, reboot.

The above instructions is not a cure-all, but a precaution. A poorly writtne or bad script can grab your computer resources to the point where not much can be accomplished.

Another option some of my aquainences uses is o scan with CCleaner. The free on-lne version has been helpful in clearing out unwanted junk that clogs a sysgem.

This is one of the problems with social forums. These can become infected unknowingly by a user. Often, the infection in an attachment or link to another site.
