I promised no more knitting projects until after Christmas,right?

Well, here's a really cute little Easter one, or just a cute kiddo/baby gift to make.

I'm not real clear about what size they'll work up, she mentions 5". Good luck with that! lol Oh, and those little eyes? Might be safer to use felt for that, in case of swallowing.

I would be very cautious about the googly eyes. Do not use glue on eyes that a baby can pull off. I guess you could look for button eyes that could be sewn down well, but I don't know how that could be done with a pom pom.

The pattern is adorable, and I have seen a larger pattern for toddler slippers like this on the internet. I just need to research something like puffy paint to make them non slip.

This is lovely. Keep rambling! I love to hear about other's garden adventures. I also do not know any other gardeners locally, although I do get to talk to my sister on the phone about our respective gardens. Your path is really beautiful and co-ordinates well with the fencing. Plus, all the plants look so healthy. The neighbors maple is a nice addition too. The only thing I can think of is trying for a kid's garden in the center plot. A bean teepee and some towering sunflowers or maybe a 3 sisters corn/bean/squash mound just to model interesting plant interactions. Although it looks as though you may have already filled it up with some goodies since there are plants in the pic.

jenn, I'm a novice knitter, and am entirely self-taught (at least so far!). I just started a pair of socks (dpn's! knitting in the round! yikes!) :) and, like you, made a bunch of scarves and some baby blankets as a way of getting used to k & p and some other general techniques (for example, the baby blankets were lace knitting, and I made a scarf that has short rows). There is SO much great help on the internet, through instructional videos and websites, in forums like this, in knitting blogs, and there are tons and tons of free patterns, so that's mostly what I've relied on. There are also lots of great books! However, I've thought of taking classes -- partly for the social component and also because, like you said, sometimes you pick up things that you wouldn't learn otherwise. It really depends on how you like to learn. I've gotten acquainted with the owners of two local yarn shops and they're terrific -- very helpful and not "pushy" to get me to buy things (although of course I can't resist some of those great yarns!) -- and they both encourage people to come in with their knitting and sit and knit and chat and get help if they need it. It's really delightful. So don't hesitate to go into a yarn shop and talk to the people there and get to know them a little. Also, one thing that helped me, is to try not to over-think a pattern -- I always want to "understand" what's happening in a pattern but I discovered that sometimes I just don't "get" what it's saying until I actually try it, and then suddenly it makes perfect sense. The most important thing is just plunge in! and when you have questions, you'll find the answers, here or elsewhere. Knitters are the greatest -- I've emailed total strangers to ask them about something they knitted and posted on their blog and they've always answered. Have fun!!

LOL, Daisy! What a good idea (the bribing, I mean...)! Thank you all for your thoughtful posts. Honestly, though I get irritated about feeling thwarted sometimes, I really value his opinion. Especially when he saves me from making mistakes. Like yesterday, for example. I "eyeballed" the bunk beds, which so many of you know from experience is ALWAYS a mistake. DH went to see them later, with a tape measure... and the bottom bed would have blocked off half of DS's little room. I hate it when he's right, but at the same time, I would have really hated hauling all that furniture home and setting it up, only to find that it either doesn't really fit or takes the whole room over... Hence the title of this post. Feeling very embarrassed for having taken up bandwidth on this... hope the discussion was interesting, at least. And BTDT moms who posted about being glad that they had cheapo pine bunkbeds the kids could, ahem, "personalize" -- thank you for your insights, very useful. TO the other warnings: thanks, you guys, I know you're right, and I know the disadvantages of bunkbeds, and am not looking forward to making that top bunk at all. But right now the kids adore each other and DS2 would actually sleep better at night knowing his wonderful big brother could protect him from the monsters. Sigh. Back to looking! Go to each controller you can think of, add the costs of pumps, relays, automation upgrades that don't have 2 speed capability, and then look at the difference in costs compared to ROI. Variable is the best deal. Now, look at Variable. In the industry names, you have three. A 6 speed Hayward, built on the "not proving itself" TriStar and another box they want you to install on the wall, An 8 speed Jandy, built on nothing proven or a 3050 speed Pentair built on the very reliable, very proven WhisperFlo. You too will come to realize that there is really no comparison but it is the owner who makes the choice. Selling all is doing a disservice for a buck. Selling what works if it's only a few products is doing the customer right. I would challenge anybody here to see where those who advise variable speed on this board are one track minds. We clearly state on a regular basis that this pump is not the only option and best option for all pools. I am totally against the multitasking that owners here seem to want. It's not the intent of the pump even though it works. It's for low flow circ and nothing out there will compare today.

Here you go again! I still think we need to teach you to knit. I told DH that Moni and I were going to do a knitting class at your house this year. He said you and Woody need to widen your driveway so the motor home will fit.

rofl, Tami! I doubt if that's going to happen, it would take a month with the chain saw! lol The UPS truck barely makes it in and the guys who delivered our appliances dang near destroyed my mimosa tree backing around. Rat finks. I'm still mad!

I think Nectarine needs a tiny pair of these, don't you? Toothpicks would make great little knitting needles, wouldn't they? Want me to measure her tootsies for ya? lol

Oh, Necci's here! Her feets are cold, though. She's just hanging out in the craft room, watching over whatever I do. She goes on the occasional road trip with me, mostly for the new clothes that she knows she'll score. Yes, I'm 51 and I still play with dolls. :)

Zeetera- did you go by a different name before? I don't recognize your name from long ago, just more recently.... forgive me if I'm wrong! Was Necci at your house? Did we ever see the photos? (I feel so stupid right now.)

OMG! Longtail, yes, of course! Necci was your's and Casey's brainchild! You sneaked in here when I wasn't looking or paying attention, I feel so bad, I would welcomed you with a party and hugs and kisses and everything!

Alas, Necci's website got deleted, it was a storage/space problem. I kept it all, though, and have her journals and the photos and all her accoutrement (sp).......

Gosh, it's so good to see you. How's everything? You still living in B?

LOL, I know my memory is bad, but I'm sure I've mentioned who I am.

Yup, still stuck on this little island. I thought you knew it was me when you asked about the fabric that time (btw without mentioning it to my mom she brought back almost the same dog pattern fabric). Sorry to hear about Necci's website, it was really interesting and nice of Karen to host it.

BrattKatt, I've been back for a while now (betcha gonna look up my posts now uh?) lol.

Hey Gale, guess you didn't understand my post when I said that I sent you the bottled water for you to try. You must have been saying, who's this lunatic...

It's great to see you all again. I remember others but can't remember their user names. I'll try to post more but it seems as if life gets busier as you get older.
