Warm Grey Paint Color for the Kitchen?

It may sound strange to paint a kitchen grey but I think it will work very nicely as a neutral background in my kitchen. My cabinets are an off-white/ivory color and right now my kitchen is painted a very pale lime green (alomst white) color. It's nice but does nothing for the cabinets. I'm afraid if I go blue, it will be too easter egg loooking since the cabinets have a lot of yellow in them. I thought grey would be a nice compliment, with the ceiling crown and window trim painted bright white. Does anyone have a grey painted kitchen? Any suggestions for warm grey paints that are not too dark?

I am painting my cabinets a very greyed blue. Ihappen to be using the nnew Ace Cabinet paint.

You can find wonderful greyed colors in any paint. I like the idea of gray but those with a hint of blue or green look very classy.

I suggest you ask on the home decorating forum or the kitchen forum for colors as they are quite well versed there.

Will a light gray clash/look strange with the warm tones of the cabinets and floors? I feel like the only other option is white, which I really do not want to do. Gray is not a problem in and of itself, but the one you have chosen has cool undertones that may not be flattering to your warm woods. White is not the only other option. A warmer gray can absolutely work. Below is Owl Gray; its green undertones could make your floors look orange. Compare that to the greige below, a warm grey beige from Farrow and Ball that makes your floors look mercifully brown. These hues are not that different, but their effect on your space is huge. For backsplash we are looking at marble tiles of some sort (either brick pattern or herringbone). If you can wait to pick a bs that will give you the option to see sample tiles in your space with your materials in your light. That said, nothing makes faux marble counters look faux-er than a real marble bs. In the image below, the bs looks like the real thing (because it is) and the counters look like plastic. It's also a lot of "stone" look in one place. That said, people do it all the time. Google your counter and maple cabinets and save images of kitchens that you like. It may help you find a look you love.

@funcolors wow, you might be the color angel I’ve been needing as I drive myself crazy with whites! We’re repainting all interior doors and trim (prior owners left 3 trim colors, some doors that don’t match frames, etc), so we’re looking for a nice clean white. we have BM mascarpone in our family room and love it, so had planned to expand that through the open concept downstairs as well as stairway. will simply white read too stark against mascarpone? In some areas it seems to a bit, and in bright areas it doesn’t at all. We want to be consistent through the house (and my husband doesn’t like idea of mascarpone on the doors and trim and wants a truer white) , and have ultra pure white in 2 kid rooms (their choice!), and simply white is a huge improvement over the trim and doors there now, which look almost brown in comparison. Basically my Q is: Will we regret Simply White as too stark against creamy, dreamy mascarpone? Or worse, will they clash or look like we failed in an attempt to match? thanks for any help! :)

Thanks for the advice! I like the ideas but we do prefer to face the fireplace. We actually use it a lot! And also prefer to face our backyard too. I do think the tv is high and too big (lost that battle) and will replace furniture once we’re done with our renovations. We need a proper seating area for sure but do prefer we face the fireplace which means the tv has to go above it (I think). I know that’s not great from a design perspective but it is practical for us! But open to other seating arrangement ideas. And paint!

Hollybar, I understand your thinking. But I just want to keep things simple and find one neutral color for my entire home. I do have to mention that I just remodeled my master bedroom and changed it from an all-beige look to a modern more fresh look with a SW medium gray color. The outcome was great! But aside from the master bedroom, I do plan stick to one color for the rest of the house. I am ready for a fresh look.

I like Benjamin Moore's austere grey. It is a grey with a green hue. It changes color with lighting and I get lots of compliments on it. It is the main neutral color in my house.

I just painted my bedroom BM Silver Mist (1619) and we are all in LOVE with this color. My bedroom faces south and has big windows so the room gets lots of light. Depending on the time of day, amount of light, etc. it varies from pale, warm gray to pale, pale smoky blue. I cannot imagine it looking easter-ish. Just doesn't have that pastel quality. We also looked at BM Quiet Moments which is also a lovely gray, but with a bit more green in it.

Thanks -- it's bluish/gray but can look purplish depending on the light.

Also nice is BM wickham gray. See if you can get ahold of Stephanie Hoppen's new book Perfect Neutrals (published in 2007). She has some lovely examples of gray interiors. I've seen the book at Borders and in Restoration Hardware.

I love Wickham Gray and will pick up a sample of that when I'm ready to start painting. Thanks for the advice on the book. I've read some reviews online and it looks really useful.

I like SW Intellectual Gray - used it in a bedroom and it's medium dark and warm, but if you are leaning towards a blue-gray, it may not work. It is more brown-olive gray.

Also, a pale gray that I like a lot is BM Edgecomb gray. Pretty, light and neutral.

Sorry! I didn't see your question until now. The walls are BM Aura matte finish and the trim is BM satin impervo. The trim was custom matched to my cabinets -- I think they are SW pure white, but not 100% sure.

Hi Novice,
I am looking at BM Winter Solstice for my kitchen- just one color below Silver mist. It looks very muted, not too bright or pastel. We'll see! I do plan on trying out a sample first so I won't have a do-over!

I loved using SW Intellectual Grey 7045 on my kitchen cabinets!

Wall:SW 7045 Intellectual Gray flat 100%
Ceiling:SW 7045 Intellectual Gray flat 50%
Cabinets,trims, doors: SW 7045 Intellectual Gray, Semi gloss 100%
Island: Benjamin Moore Bronze Tone #60 Semi gloss 100%
