Does "warm" grey paint color with blue tone exist?
Comments (32)Okay...all the junk is out! Plan: clean up/mop dust, mortar chips, etc. and spend the evening with my paint samples...narrow down to three or four...paint sample boards, and pick a color. I would love to have time to see the sample boards in different light etc.; but my get-er-done DH scheduled plumbers on Monday and convinced the tile setters to partially grout the shower and come back to finish on Monday too....Grrrr! So...I plan to only paint behind the toilet and area and by bullnose edging. If I pick wrong.....I will not have to do redo the whole room. If I pick the wrong color, I am not worried about repainting near the bullnose; it is the toilet area that worries me. Anyone have a tip for painting behind a toilet that is 1/2 inch from the wall just in case. This is our attempt to correct a horrible inefficient layout...not thrilled about looking at the side of a toilet; but that compromise meant a towel closet in the bathroom (finally), a 60x60 angle shower, and room for a 77" double vanity while eliminating the 3 right angles in the second entrance from the master bath....See MoreNeed Advice: Beige Valspar Wall Paint Color for Coastal Home
Comments (2)Patricia Colwell Consulting, Thanks for responding and for your ideas. You didn't say why you wouldn't pair taupe with beachy colors. Is there a specific reason you think taupe doesn't work? Not being a pro, I'd be very interested to know and to know why I should go with a greenish gray, especially since green is a color I don't care for in large quantities (such as on walls). If it helps, I've attached two photos. The first is our previous home with the furniture and decor we'll be re-using in our new home. In this previous home, the walls were Sherwin Williams Sand Dollar (a slightly pinkish taupe). I chose those colors based on the second photo below which was the inspiration photo I used in picking the colors. As you can see, it has taupe walls and floor tile in the main area, aqua walls in the foyer, and the furniture and rugs are in blues, aquas, creams and whites, with some other colors in smaller decor pieces. As I said, I'd love to understand why you think taupe is a bad choice, and I'd love to hear from others in regard to these color choices, as well. Thanks!...See MoreHELP!! Comments (16)With that beautiful acacia floor with its distinctive grain I too would vote for something without too bold a competing pattern. A classic soapstone, or a “mist” (Virginia, Silver etc) honed granite or a soft white marble with gray - any of those would look beautiful. I suspect as geologists that you both really “see” stones for what they are as opposed to the general public’s perception of counters as being simply a field of color and pattern. But a deeper knowledge or appreciation of the material itself is not your friend when getting everything to pair well. Ironically. I don’t find Houzz easy to search, but you might see what you can locate pictures of kitchens with acacia floors as your starting point. I would focus on the choices of counters used first, then cabinet color, and finally backsplash. Re the marrying cool tones to warm ones there shades that are neutral but a paint color still will not tie everything together. You can used the same stone for the counter and backsplash though, which eliminates one matching conundrum. Final thought, don’t use quartz - you are geologists - you of all folk should have real stone....See MorePreviously painted rooms warm colors. If gray is out, now what color?
Comments (14)Another point to consider if you're leaning towards light and bright is your natural light and outdoor conditions. This article I stumbled on while researching my own dilemma is great at getting the right whites, offers companion colors and trim/ceiling companions. According to this article BM Classic Gray is a favorite "go to" neutral color designers use. Depending on surroundings, it can reflect different undertones. You can also punch up neutral walls with your artwork (the living room piece is a great starting point), add colorful pillows to work with the season (I personally love black pillows on my white couch, then add pinks in spring, blues and greens in summer, browns in fall and gold or reds in Xmastime) and accessories (museum-like pieces: orbs, stallions, bust/statuaries; nature: plants/twigs/leaves; books; - whatever emphasizes your personality). I also would swap locations of the sofa and chairs. Placing the chairs in front of window visually opens the room, lets in more light and allows for walking up to the window to enjoy the view. Your recent project looks great! I love the simplicity of the doors and love them in black satin color which makes them look elegant and even more high end!
