What does this design say?
Comments (24)squirrel, that's the funny thing. She subscribes (and I get them as she's finished) to Southern Living, BH&G, Victoria and other magazines. She tears photo's out. She does all this and then goes against all that appeals to her. Too funny. I guess, like me, she's having a difficult time "picturing" things in her space. wodka, no chance on earth she'll ever come to this forum. She's not a computer person. I've told her a million and one times to come to the forum to look at photo's and get ideas, but she doesn't want to. Beadboard was my first thought for her backsplash, but then DH reminded me how messy they are. They know it and she admits they are not the neatest or cleanest people. That's why she figured the black floor would cover the dirt. LOL DH is going to apply a sealer to the tile and grout to help repel the dirt. DH just called and said the paint selected is definitely mostly blue so I'll keep my fingers crossed it will look good. He said he thought it would. I didn't ask DH to come show me the chip because she didn't ask for my final approval, so I won't offer it. I'm sure I'm worrying needlessly and it will all look great. lindy, thanks for that site. Next time someone asks my opinion, I'm charging them. Two reasons; one they'll just not ask if I charge or two, they'll actually take my advice if they have to pay for it. HA! HA! Thanks everyone for your input. I can't wait to see the finished room and to show you how it came out. Wow, a black BMW convertible. My dream is a red Lexus convertible. Yea, I'm dreaming way big!!! Do those little cars come equipped with a lift because that is what I'd need to get out of the thing. After driving a van for the last 8 years, getting in a car of any kind is painful because it's so low to the ground and getting out is something I could sell tickets to see!!...See MoreHe says-she says on paint color for cream kitchen cabinets..help!
Comments (6)That's a tough call - I think both those colors will go very nicely with creamy cabinets. I'm doing cream cabinets with a green close to the color you are showing & my dining room is very similar to that yellow. BUT , my kitchen & dining room are each their own distinct rooms. I think if it was all open, I would have continued the yellow into the kitchen. So I guess my vote would depend on your layout....See MoreWhat colors say 'cottage' to you?
Comments (43)I consider my house cottagey, but I really have not used soft, muted paint colors (except in my bedroom). I think it depends so much on the type of light your house gets. Michigan doesn't always have the greatest, most sunny weather, so I chose colors that feel warm in the dreary, cold days of winter. My woodwork is also very prominent and dark, so that makes a difference. I would love to see some photos of your home. I highly recommend getting slipcovers for your wingback chairs. Your dog will shed on whatever upholstery is there. It will be wonderful to just throw them in the wash to get them clean. My slipcovers have been a godsend. Don't think I'll ever be without them. Below is a link to pictures of my house. I'm not sure what type of cottage style my decor is...it's just what I like, but you can see that it doesn't necessarily have to be soft, muted colors that you use. I am a color junkie, so my look works well for me. I abhor living in beige. It's nice to visit, but I couldn't live there, LOL! Good Luck, and please post some pictures if you are able!! Comments (22)About 90% of what is said above is my DH!! We call him the "house guest" for a reason. I can't even imagine asking him to put up blinds or paint in the first place. I installed a flush mount light fixture in his closet and used one of the last forever bulbs because I knew he wouldn't know how to change it. I installed the light fixture in this picture. It took me 2 hours because it had many pieces and was so long that I (on a ladder) had to hold one end up with my head while carefully reaching over to install the other end. Okay, that's no big deal except the entire time I could see DH in front of the TV watching the football game and never got any hints from my grunting, mild cursing, and moans for frustration. It's pretty sad when the neighbors come over to borrow my tools. Last week one of my neighbors asked DH "does Cathy have any molly bolts?". I knew DH had no clue what a molly bolt was. What amazes me is that he is well respected in his area of interest. Ex: He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for what he does. We attended a ceremony in his honor and they gave him a plaque and a big ole ring! So he is capable and loved by many just don't expect him to know which is the business end of a hammer. I have had serious talks with him lately explaining that I want a partnership in this house and would like him to try harder to participate in the maintenance....See MoreCaroleOH
