I think it depends on how the layout of your house flows from room to room. If you have wood casings around your doorways so that each room has a start and end point for paint colors - then doing colors that are similar in tone but not exactly in the same color family works fine in my opinion. If you have an open floor plan where one wall is shared between two room then I think a common wall color is required. I think the green in your photo would be beautiful with creamy cabinets. The yellow in the photo you posted looks really yellow to me, and I guess I would picture more a light gold to go with that green ie. BM Pittsfield Buff or SW Believable Buff. I'd go with the green and the nice part is if you both don't like the green with the cabinets or with the color chosen for the foyer/LR, paint is easily fixed. I would focus on picking the perfect color for your cabinets and trim - that is a much bigger job to correct if the color is off!

squirrel, that's the funny thing. She subscribes (and I get them as she's finished) to Southern Living, BH&G, Victoria and other magazines. She tears photo's out. She does all this and then goes against all that appeals to her. Too funny. I guess, like me, she's having a difficult time "picturing" things in her space. wodka, no chance on earth she'll ever come to this forum. She's not a computer person. I've told her a million and one times to come to the forum to look at photo's and get ideas, but she doesn't want to. Beadboard was my first thought for her backsplash, but then DH reminded me how messy they are. They know it and she admits they are not the neatest or cleanest people. That's why she figured the black floor would cover the dirt. LOL DH is going to apply a sealer to the tile and grout to help repel the dirt. DH just called and said the paint selected is definitely mostly blue so I'll keep my fingers crossed it will look good. He said he thought it would. I didn't ask DH to come show me the chip because she didn't ask for my final approval, so I won't offer it. I'm sure I'm worrying needlessly and it will all look great. lindy, thanks for that site. Next time someone asks my opinion, I'm charging them. Two reasons; one they'll just not ask if I charge or two, they'll actually take my advice if they have to pay for it. HA! HA! My crazy deadline of trying to finish this remodel by the end of July was really stressing me out. Yesterday morning, I decided that I would choose some color of Ceasarstone. I simply had not seen a granite that went along with my vision or that I just loved. I learned that some marbles probably were in my price range, but for a couple of other reasons, didn't seem to be the right choice. I was on a mission to choose a Ceasarstone and had my mind made up. Since my DH was home for the day, I engaged him and said that WE were going to choose TODAY. I took some backsplash samples and we found one that we both liked, brought it home and the boys liked it too. I am happy because I think it will be an easy surface to maintain, it is light and that works for my smaller kitchen. (and I don't have undercab. lighting) My sister said it reminded her of our grandmother's old formica tabletop. (Which was red and we have happy memories of it), but I am going to own this decision (and try not to re-think it), but mostly, embrace any of its "fakeness!" We chose Ceasarstone Nougat. I came back today and see that it is the same as gracesantacruz! We also have a beachy feel to our home and my seaglass collection was my original backsplash inspiration. I just want to say thanks again for sharing your pictures and for the comments and encouragement (erikanh) As another comment on this thread, the fabricator said that 3 years ago they did a very small portion of quartz countertops, but these days it is about 50% of their work. You say, "You must be so pleased!" and then, you inspect the dove tailed joints in the cabinet drawers and you say, "Wow, check out this workmanship--you'd pay a fortune to have someone custom make drawers like THIS!" :-) The work is done, they're happy--be happy for them.
