I bought the Brother fax/copier/scanner you recommended, and love it, but it's really inconvenient to move everything on my desk over to pull the printer out, open the back cover and slide the tabs to the envelope width to print an envelope (and they get kind of crinkled coming through), then slide the tabs back, close the cover, move the machine back and put all the stuff on my desk back. Do you use yours to print envelopes? Is there an easier way? Do you have a separate printer for envelopes?

I do not print envelopes and I agree it does seem like a bad plan on their part, I guess they think it will be kept on some kind of stand that all sides are accessible. Mine is on a rolling cabinet that has file drawers in it so I can actually move it quite easily to reach the back.
I don't know any thing that would help but you might use their chat or contact info to ask them about the crinkled up issue that does not seem like that should be happening.

I have never even tried that feature of mine. I do all my bills online and I rarely ever use an envelope other than the occasional card to someone so it was not a problem for me.

I do love my printer too! I recently did a presentation at our Garden Club on daffodils and I had printed out several really nice pictures from online sources and everyone thought they were real photos they were so clear and the colors were so vivid.Glad I made the switch to laser.

I am very happy you are pleased with yours as well.

Would one of you please post which Brother printer you bought? I'm going to be in the market for a new printer within the next few months, and need to start checking them out.

I don't print much anymore, mostly it will be used to print pages I've typed or from the internet. But I do want it to have the capability of printing good pictures also. I currently have an old, old Epson 900.

I had a heckuva time trying to get WOT back......kept telling me it was stored in an unreachable file, etc., etc. (It was in My Documents, bu....???)I was finally sent to a list of enabled./disabled items, and that did the trick when I enabled part of it that was disabled. Don't know why, or what, but little green circle is back where it belongs. I checked out searching on Google,and it was doing its job. So all is well in my WOT world. One caveat: Too many devices drawing power (not the data signal) can overload the computer port and cause it to shut down. When that happens, about the only way I know to reactivate the port is to disconnect the items causing the overload and reboot the computer. Devices like a mouse and most thumb drives have low power requirements. But watch out for mechanical devices like high RPM disk drives and floppy drives. I've had no trouble with a 3.5 floppy drive, but a 7200 rpm hard drive (tradename Pass Port) shut down the port on an older laptop. The inrush current to start the disk spinning exceeded the port's allowable capacity and the port shut off. (If the USB port on the computer senses an over currrent draw, it automatically shuts down as a protective measure,) Some hubs do accept an exernal power supply. You may wish to consider this option if you plan to connect devices that have significant power demands, or if more than one power hunger devices will be draining current at the same time.

There's a lot of things that could cause this. If the battery on the motherboard (or "mainboard" being the politically correct term these days) dies, you lose the CMOS settings and might not be able to read the drives. They need to be set correctly to read it as before. It could be a cable worked loose. Vibration causes this. If you put in a restore disk it will 99% of the time format the drive and reload as it came from the factory meaning any documents on there will be lost. I'd suggest getting it to a competent person. If you have data to be recovered you need someone who knows what they're doing depending on the importance of the data. You might even want to send the drive to someplace that specializes in data recovery. They're expensive so the data should be critical. Otherwise if less critical, an experienced tech might be able to help. For data recovery, especially from someone with less experience, the more you try to access the drive the more trouble you can cause. If you replaced the mainboard with a different one, most likely the restore disks will not work with it. They're tied to the specifications of the unit for which it's designed. You can't make many changes. It checks for the stuff that's supposed to be there and if it doesn't find it, it'll tell you it's not for that machine. If you're paying for the disk(s) you're usually better off to just buy an OEM version of WIndows. And actually, for that cost, these days it's often worthwhile to look at a new machine. Putting a lot of money into an old computer isn't cost-effective when you can buy a new machine for $200-$300! I have a sneaking suspicion I know the answer to this, but, have you backed up your data lately?

Sure it is not an ink jet though it is a color laser printer fax copier all in one. It is the Brother MFC-9120CN

you are very welcome. I don't print much but the cost of ink just keeps going up and I could easily pay for the new printer in the ink I save. The toner cartridges last a long long time. My husband has been using laser printers at the offices for years and he was the one that really urged me to make the switch.

Hope you find something you are happy with. Brother does of course make less expensive printers and has several ink jet models too. Prior to this I had been using HP.
