Do this with a digital multi-meter that has the capability of reading on a 0-200 Ohms scale. All mats have a specific Ohms value depending on length. The core to core reading should give you set Ohms values. The core to ground sheath readings should give you a reading of 0 or infinity depending on the meter. Unfortunately, bread machines use the direct dough method (the fast modern method) to make bread, and thereby you miss many aspects to increase "flavor", which is why I try to use the sponge method, especially with 100% whole wheat bread. The sponge in "Mildred Bread" can be as little as 2-1/2 hours, but I generally let it sit overnight for convenience. I also get some additional flavor by using homemade kefir, which is a fermented dairy product similar to yogurt. Yogurt and buttermilk also add a lot of flavor and tangy taste. A standing period is a valuable step to the texture, as well as flavor. The loss of flavor is even more prevalent if using the Quick (1-hr.) Cycle. Another way to add flavor is to remove the dough from the bread machine as soon as the kneading is done and retard it in the refrigerator. Pan it and bake it in your regular oven. On the waterlox site they have instructions about how to achieve different gloss levels (which they also note are subjective.) There they say to use two coats of the satin over one or two coats of the Original (which is glossier) so it sounds like you're in luck. There a lot of photos on the site so you should get an idea of what it looks like. This is my table with just a few coats of the satin: It looks more reflective here than it appears in real life. Is there any way you can get a sample of the wood with the current finish on it that you can scratch up and then test with the satin?
