Potty Training
Comments (4)I trained my kids by asking them by moeling first. I had a potty chair in the bathroom for them and they would just come and copy me. I started pretty young. Then I talked to them aobut how diapers would not be around forever. One day there will be no more diapers. We also picked out cool underware. I waited for the underware untill they were interested in it and asked for it. Once htat happened they seemed to do it on thier own. My son was trained at slightly over two by accicident. We had been talkign about diapers being all gone and my husband could not find diapers one morning when I was gone. He said I think the diapers are all gone, so my son grabbed a pair of underwear and just did it. He did struggle a little but it was never a power struggle between us he was not having accidents wihtin a couple days. To get him to sit long enought to go I put up a piece of paper next to the toilet and gave him a ton of stickers and jsut let him stick htem on the paper. Think of things like htat your child will like to sit and do for a little bit. Also remember every child is different, you need to read your child and take thier cues....See MoreAnother potty training mystery...
Comments (7)My son was very easy to train for some reason, maybe it was the way I did it so I will share with you some of the things I tried. This may sound gross, but he thought it was cool to see that mommy or daddy had pooped, and he wanted to do it to. Not at all times but I would show him how big mommy was when she did it, and make a really big deal out of it and celebrate, we would clap our hands and sing. He thought it was the greatest and wanted to do it, too. When he did it he would get a snack or sometype of reward. Of course he grew out of it and started to do it all on his own. I would show him that even our cat does it too, but in the litter box. I guess it just kind of cought on....See MorePotty training new puppy
Comments (3)Thank you for the responses....Mazer, I have trained the first 2 dogs in the manner that you recommend and it was very successful. This new little one is for my 12 yr old and she keeps her in her room with her at night and this is when the puppy pads came in. Kaitlyn gets up with her pup at night to let her potty but she will not take her outside because she is afraid so we got the pads to help the child train her pup not realizing that it would create this problem. Also, our older dog Jenna, the golden, has taken over the mother role and I think that is is also counter productive to training because the pup looks up to her as her mother. Just this morning I gave Jenna a treat and she turned around and gave it to the puppy like she was providing for her. I think that we will need to start taking the pup outside without the older dog and see if we better results...also not being able to do the stairs is a proble. My husband said that he is going to put a ramp down the stairs (only 2 steps) and see if she will use that. She is a spunky little thing with quite the character and very smart and so far we have not seen any sign that she is afraid of anything.....it is almost as though she is looking at the golden for reasurance...if Jenna doesn't react to the situation then I shouldn't either, and Jenna doesn't react to much..not even loud noises or thunder storms, she is very relaxed. I will suggest to my husband that he remove the pads from the main floor and take Mollie outside without Jenna and see how that goes. thank you...See More? potty train this lovable rescue dog...
Comments (6)I think being in the shelter for so long (& his age) he just had to 'go' where he was confined. He has been caged, taken outdoors to do his business & then comes in & does it in his cage... or on the floor if out of his cage! Unfortunately, they live on 5 acres unfenced in the country where there are rattlesnakes, & rabbits that he would chase & get lost so he is on a leash when outdoors most of the time. He is praised when he potties outdoors but it doesn't seem to register yet.. but they have had him only about 4 months x the shelter so hopefully he will improve with time & patience. When he is visitung our 4 dogs he sees where they go but he will just do it anywhere-cement patio usually- when he feels the urge! Such a sweet lovable old guy though otherwise! We have never had chihuahas & some tell us they are very stubborn but our 3 Min-Pins learn things quickly (too quickly at times!!)& also our German Shepherds ... we have had 7 of them over the years. Thanks for your suggestions!...See Morespiritual_gardner
