Not canning either, but good! Recently I also had a berry abundance myself. I made fruit roll ups or fruit leather. I also had apples (lucky part of the abundance) so I put these in the food processor: 2 pints raspberries (or 2 pints blackberries for the blackberry version) 3 apples 1/2 meyers lemon (peel and all but no seeds) 1/2 c sugar. Made into a paste and dehydrated it in my new (handed down) excalibur dehydrator. Cut and rolled and ready for hiking snacks, or just snacks! I never made these before, but I am impressed. During an earlier berry abundance (strawberries) I just made strawberry jam. I had never done strawberry jam so and I could not resist. Took it to the farmer's market and it sold very fast. Good thing I had put a couple of half pints in the cupboard for myself! I also have a couple of quarts frozen strawberries in the freezer. Will try to make strawberry sorbet or sherbet. Any good recipes?

I'm inspired by everyone's berries. I wish I had more. I have one Viburnum, plicatum I think, that doesn't have a single berry on it. though it is a gorgeous orange for fall. My serviceberry and crabapple are always so decimated by rust that I never have berries on them either. My serviceberry failures is one of my sadder failures in the garden. Does anyone have good luck with a serviceberry? Anyway, here are mine! You don't have to know what it is before you call, at the least, poison control, even if there are no symptoms. Call immediately! Poison control will have much faster ways to id what he ate, and assess the risks re the berries he ate, and they will have fast coordination with 911 if necessary. ***If there are *any* symptoms at all, or poison control seems to be slowish, go for 911!*** This is especially important for someone as young as 2! Very tiny quantities of plant toxins can take just a little while to digest, and everything seems normal, and then they can suddenly hit like a ton of bricks on that little body. When something like this happens, call poison control. If it is 'no problem', they will check it out and will still be glad you called them. Trust me, they actually prefer giving information rather than dealing with crises. *This time*, you were very, very, very lucky.... Could be 'Nellie Stevens' holly. Hard to tell without a closeup of leaves. But these can be prolific berry producers. And yes, most people want lots of berries! Usually robins strip my hollies of berries in the winter when worms are a scace comodity, but for some reason those of Nellie Stevens aren't quite as much to their liking. If robins can find worms (soil not frozen), they'll usually avoid the hollies. I don't think you can do anything except remove the trees if this really is bothersome. There's a holly called 'Eagleson' (or Eagleston) of comparable size that is gorgeous and makes a lot fewer berries. One other thing you could try is to trim back the hollies just after they are finished blooming. This way, you remove a lot of the spent flowers and developing fruit. We don't normally advocate that, as most people want the berries! I do not know whether these berries will readily sprout and become a 'weed' problem. Some hybrids (if that's what you have) are sterile. My hollies rarely sprout around the yard except for Castle Spire. I do get a lot of native I. opaca sprouting though.
