Another CA question...restaurants nr Corona CA

I mean Corona, not Corona del Mar. We are meeting family who live south of Corona and need a simple dinner. I'd be happy with any ethnic one and the family are pretty basic eaters.

Dick just eats...We'd like to stay on the north/nw side of the area if we can, since that's the direction (Placentia) we're headed after dinner. Family goes back down I-15 to get home.

Good dives are ok too. ;-) Maureen

Haven't posted in a long time but I hope this link helps. I'm in southern calif but as you will see SoCal covers a lot of territory :> Looks like a number of franchise restaurants. Claim Jumper is a franchise around here - well known for large servings and mile-high chocolate cake. We have a BJ in our area - the selection of 6 different micro-brews tastings is fun and the sweet corn cakes w/avocado are yummy. Not familiar w/Villa Amalfi place or the Backwoods BBQ. Hi Maureen, why not post the question to Chowhound.com's southern california board? You're sure to find someone who can offer a personal tip. I have to say, I'm not a fan of BJ's. Beer may be fine, food is not.

lucia: Good, you only have the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus oreganus) to worry about. I know, some people would say to just look for the rattle, which is diagnostic, but what if you can't see it? What if you see only the loop of a snake sticking out from under a board? What if the tail is hidden in the brush? What if you're seeing the snake from a distance, as you were? Herpetologists could easily distinguish a rattler from a gopher snake at a glance at that distance, but others may not be able to do so. Gopher snakes are generally tan with dark brown or black blotches on the back. You may be able to perceive the blotches as in being in staggered length-wise rows. Their head is proportionally rather small, though an angry one can spread it out somewhat to make himself look more imposing. Your rattlers will be gray, brown, or (occasionally) greenish, with big rhomboid shaped blotches on the back. Your local outdoors-people probably call them "diamondbacks," but that's another species. The point is, no way are you going to be tempted to call a gopher snake a "diamondback." Also, the rattler will have a prominent white line running diagonally down the side of the head. If you can see the head, then you can see that easily from 10 ft. If he sees you, even if he's not rattling or coiling, he'll probably be waving his long tongue slowly up and down, and the tongue has a blue base -- but you're probably way too close for comfort if you can see the blue!

OK, so it is raining here in Mass. - I am now officially crying - so many pictures - so beautiful. I have six roses on the way - EBB TIDE. I planned to make a round or oval bed in my large front lawn. It is south facing - no fence - just lawn straight to the street. I have a little rock garden and that's all. I gardened for years and then got divorced. "THAT" house is a block away from where I live now. I feel so burnt out and so sad that I have to START ALL OVER AGAIN. And I am not accustomed to the weird layout of this house. If I put the roses in the center of a bed - what should I put around them on the outside of the circle? All your beautiful picture are of large spces or areas that are strictly roses - except winner of the award person - I can't even mention her name or I will start crying all over again. Please help - I am open to all suggestions. I live in metrowest Boston. Please send me a plan for a bed on a front lawn - full sun that can incorporate my 6 EBB TIDES? Someone take some pity M

I don't think 430 stainless will rust. It is magnetic, but its corrosion resistance is almost as good as 304 ---------------------------------- Stainless Steel - Grade 430 Chemical Formula Fe, Background Grade 430 is a ferritic, straight chromium, non-hardenable grade, combining good corrosion resistance and formability characteristics with useful mechanical properties. Its ability to resist nitric acid attack permits its use in specific chemical applications but automotive trim and appliance components represents its largest fields of application. Corrosion Resistance 430 has good resistance to a wide variety of corrosive media including nitric acid and some organic acids. It attains its maximum corrosion resistance when in the highly polished or buffed condition. In general its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion resistance is close to that of grade 304. Stress corrosion cracking resistance of Grade 430 is very high, as it is for all ferritic grades. Like other high-sulphur free machining grades 430F has much reduced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to its non-free machining equivalent, particularly in the cross-section direction. Yeah it does. Here in San Jose there can be leaf die back from the near/below freezing temperatures we get a few times in the winter. You are in 9b so probably the same boat. It's putting out new growth/buds so it will be okay. It would have better vigor if you mulch it and give some fertilizer (organic granular, which might need to be watered in if you have no rain coming)

Well, since we don't drink Ellen, I guess there's not a lot to rec BJs for us!! ;-) I'll try chowhound, and go back thru some of the KCRW Good Food podcasts...see if they mention Corona.

Ann, I didn't bash you, it wasn't personal. I waited until someone who's been to Corona could answer. When I read your answer I was disappointed. We had an AWFUL experience at the BJ's near us a few months ago. The food was greasy and the 3 dishes that we finally chose left us very unhappy. They didn't deserve a recommendation in my book.
I'm sorry you saw this as bashing. I thought maybe coronabarb would pop in and answer, but as she didn't I thought I'd offer my point of view. I apologize for offending you, that was not my intention.

Ann, no offense meant.

It looks as if there aren't a lot of you in that area or else you all are busy or there isn't a lot to recommend. :-( Last time we ate with this branch of the family it was a chain of semi-fast food, their choice -actually one on that Google list. LOL We were just hoping to avoid that this trip.

But hey, if that's what's around, and that's what makes them happy, we can be happy too. Maureen
