Hi everyone,

I remember reading here a while ago, that as you garden, you should always pull things TOWARDS you......I guess, in the event that a snake is underneath, that would cause it to go AWAY from you.

I've been practicing this without really knowing the reasoning. Just yesterday, I pulled a red concrete paver TOWARDS me and quickly stopped when I saw part of a snake hiding underneath.

Wasn't able to tell if it was a gopher or a rattler because by the time I got the nerve to get back on the scene it was gone....probably went down the newly dug gopher hole adjacent to the red paver.......

A month ago I found what I later learned, was a whiptail snake. I put what I tought was a dead snake (using a weeding tool) in a big jar and realized after I lidded it, that the snake was alive. (Took it to the Lindsay Wildlife museum for an ID).

So-to make a long story short....any other things I/we should all be practicing to keep us happily gardening and safe from accidentally getting bitten?
