Kitten still nursing at 10 weeks old

Hi,

My cat had two kittens almost 11 weeks ago. Charley is eating mostly solids now, but Honey will not touch them; she only wants to nurse from Mama Cat. Mama Cat tries to discourage it, but she eventually gives in and lets Honey nurse.

Mama is scheduled for a spay on Feb. 6th and her milk needs to be dried up by then. The vet suggested separating the kittens from Mama for a few days for this to occur, as well as getting Honey eating solids.

I am woried about forcing the issue and am considering re-scheduling the spay, as I have read that kittens may nurse up untill 12 weeks of age. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is separating them the right thing to do? BTW, we are keeping the kittens

I look forwad to your replies! Thank you.

Sheryl
