Honestly, stop with the pesticides. Our school system has been saying for years that _one_ pesticide treatment on the hair followed by fine combing, laundering bedclothes and towels as normal, and disinfecting hats will do it. You don't have to sterilise the whole house. The lice can't live long off a host anyway. All those pesticides are going to make you sick. Also, if your knees are itching it's definitely not lice, as lice are site-specific having adapted to live in particular kinds of hair. So head lice are different to pubic lice, aka "crabs", for instance. Unless you have head hair growing from your knees, you can be sure they are cootie free :-)

WOW - blast from the past... I'd forgotten I even launched this post all those years ago! Somehow the wrong dog name got associated here - this story was about Penny. (Poco was our other JRT.) As it turned out, the likely culprit according to the vets was a brain tumor. We had her tested by a neurologist who attached electrodes to her head to measure whether the optic nerves were responding normally. They were, and that pretty much left a brain tumor (or other brain issue) as the only option. And the sight loss had actually started at least several months before... we eventually recalled a strange incident when we parked next to a big field near sunset for walkies, and Penny absolutely refused to follow us or leave the vicinity of the car. Totally out of character for our bold little athlete. But now we realize that we were walking off away from her straight into the setting sun, and she probably couldn't see a thing with her already failing eyesight. Unfortunately Penny did not adapt after all to being blind and pretty much stopped initiating any activity. I can't recall the complete sequence of events after all of this time, but we did feel the need to put her down within a few months. She was a wonderful soulful funny girl and much missed. Funny story - we got her from a breeder at around 12 weeks old. She had previously been sold to another family and returned (not sure why, maybe the funky bony "knob" at the base of her tail made her not perfect enough for them). When the breeder called after a few days to see how she was working out we told her that we had named her "Penny"... she paused and then said, "That's funny, that's what the other people named her!" nerdnase, I hope your dog turns out to have a treatable diagnosis! 'Why on earth would you allow a breed like that in your home is beyond me. Keep the pit mix and expect more of the same incidents in the future.' Why would you question what type dog a person has if they are a responsible owner, as sarah appears to be. She has realized that there is a problem and working to resolve it. This dominance/jealousy problem could have risen with any breed dog, not only a Pitt. I have been around/worked with dogs all my life; the three times I was bitten was by a Cocker, a Jack Russell and a Sheltie. Pitts are not the top bitters, but as larger dogs they do more damage when they bite. A lot of smaller dog bites are also not reported making their bite statistics lower on the list. I've seen Pitts who were wonderful "people/kid dogs", who were wonderful pets and great with other pets and I've seen Pitts who were wonderful pets but couldn't be trusted around other pets, same as can be found in any breed. I can't say I would never have a Pit because I've had too many rescues to say never but I probably wouldn't go out and intentionally get a Pit due to not knowing bloodlines or how the animal had been raised. At one time there was a guy here in Florida who bred Pitts just for fighting. He took the worst of the worst and bred them over and over. If you got a dog from his bloodlines in error, you could very well have a problem because this IDIOT had bred them to be vicious. I've seen people who want their Pitts to be bad and train/abuse them to be so. Sadly, in cases like these the dogs are the ones who suffer. Personally I think that people of this ilk, people who fight dogs and people such as this breeder need to be put into a cage and forced to fight in the same manner which the dogs are forced to do. Animal abuse laws aren't strict enough in my opinion. People who abuse animals have no respect for any kind of life as far as I am concerned. Bless you sarah for fostering.

Treating the symptoms of nausea Herbs: Ginger, peppermint, and anise are antispasmodic and can be used in tea or chewed raw. Chewing itself has a beneficial effect on nausea. Always use fresh ginger, as the dried ginger has lost its potency. Do not take candied ginger, as the sugar destroys B vitamins and thereby increases the nausea. If nervousness is a problem, catnip and other calming herbs can help, but they are also cause tiredness. Black Horehound (Balotta niger) but no indication of method of application. Magnets, but again no indication of method. Homeopathic remedy: nux vomica There is an acupressure point for nausea in your wrist. Feel in the middle of the inside of your wrist, about two finger widths down from the heel of your thumb. You should feel a small indentation. A bracelet for nausea is available. It is and elastic bands with a small plastic bubble is available. The bubble is placed on the acupressure point. You can make the bracelet by sewing a rounded button onto an elastic band. Avoiding travel sickness Avoid looking out the side of a moving vehicle. The rotating landscape increases the likelihood of nausea by causing dizziness. If you are travelling in a car or bus, try to get a front seat so you can look straight ahead. In a train, where you can only look out the side, focus on the horizon to avoid the visual rotation. In a boat, stay on deck and focus on the horizon. A single ear plug is supposed to work well, but the person who posted the hint did not remember whether it is supposed to go in the ear on the dominant side or in the other one. Treating the cause of nausea A vitamin B6 deficiency is usually the underlying cause of repeated bouts of nausea. The deficiency is also seen in the occurrence of cold sores and warts and bushy eyebrows. The vitamin is available in 250 mg and 100 mg. If the deficiency is pronounced enough to cause nausea, a vitamin B compound will not be sufficient. This vitamin is found in dark vegetables, green and red. It is destroyed by light. That is why you should never store or cook anything under glass lids or in transparent pots. And you should avoid produce which has been displayed under lights, expecially fluorescent lights. Besides taking B6 supplements and eating plenty of raw dark veggies, one of the best protections against travel sickness and nausea is the chewing of raw herbs like parsley, lots of it. Raw garlic helps greatly, but you have to take it regularly as a preventive measure. Do not take it when you feel the nausea.
